Using the 10 steps of investigation, plan an experiment to prove how the length of a thread can affect the time

of one complete oscillation.

1.Identify problem Problem statement: How does the length of a thread affect the time of one complete swing? Aim: To investigate the relationship of the length of thread and the time of one complete swing. 2.Form a hypothesis Hypothesis: The longer the thread, the longer the time of one oscillation. 3.Plan investigation (experiment) Method: 1) 10 cm of thread is prepared. 2) A piece of 20 cent is tied at the end of the swing. 3) The pendulum is fixed on a stand. 4) The pendulum is oscillated for 10 swings. 5) Data is collected.Time of swings is recorded. 6) Experiment is repeated with 15cm, 20cm and 25 cm of thread. 4.Control variables Manipulated: Length of thread Responding: Time of one complete swing Fixed: 20 cents (coin)

5.Collect data Length of thread Time (s) (cm) 10 oscillations 1 oscillation 1 2 3 Average 10 cm 15 cm 20 cm 25 cm 6.Analyse data 7.Interpret data
Length of thread (cm)

Time of 1 oscillation (s)

8.Make conclusions __________________________________________ __________________________________________ 9.Results support hypothesis or Results do not support hypothesis 10. Prepare report
