CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION Information Technology is the area of managing technology that spans a wide variety of areas that include

computer software, information system, computer hardware, programming languages and are not limited to things such as processes, and data constructs. Anything that renders data, information or perceived knowledge in any visual format whatsoever, via any multimedia distribution mechanism, is considered part of the IT domain. IT had already crept in every nook and crannies or our lives, from e-commerce up to mobile banking and social networking sites and indeed Information Technology is an undisputable part of our social and commercial life today. Inventory management is primarily about specifying the shape and percentage. It is required at different locations within a facility or within many location of a supply network to precede the regular and planned course of production and stock of materials. Inventory control systems maintain information about activities within firms that ensure the delivery of products to customers. The subsystems that perform these functions include sales, manufacturing, warehousing, ordering, and receiving. In different firms, the activities associated with each of these areas may not be strictly contained within separate subsystems, but these functions must be performed in sequence in order to have a well-run inventory control system.

Situation Analysis The idea of building this project comes from the fact that the company has grown much but still uses the old fashioned manual system of sales and inventory which includes lots of time, effort and paper works to complete. The most commonly used system by several companies is the web based sales and inventory system. Advanced system on sales provides more accurate and reliable recording of the company with comparison to its actual cost. In addition, the data needed by a company to decide matters in relation to inventory can be easily generated.

Conceptual Framework Sales and inventory operations are done automatically and online. The operation starts with the customer filling of the form which contains all the needed information about the transaction and the customer. The data is then evaluated by the computer and takes the action of looking at the inventory database to confirm if the product is still available. Finally the customer is prompted to the email address for the transaction details.

The risk of committing errors in large number of products is high.

Importance of the Study The study will eventually come up with a system that will increase productivity, increase sales and decrease cost of the target company. The benefits of having this kind of system running on the company are the automation of the tasks whether they are done daily with the manual system. The study also benefits the researchers to further hone their skills and knowledge throughout the period of working out the project.
