PROJECT PROPOSALS

1. ELECTRIC BALLOT & VOTING SYSTEM

The system will help government officials at all hierarchy keep track of community requirements put to a union counsellor and up to MPA, MNA, PM, President, etc. on an official message board. The requests people make will appear in the inbox of all government officials in the hierarchy and there should be progress or reasons for delays or other information related to it. For example, if people in some neighbourhood want the road to be fixed, they will make a request to the neighbourhoods union counsellor which would be sent to his inbox as well as higher officials inbox (to maintain a check on the lower officials). The Union Counsellor would then put the request in the Progress queue (if the work can be done with immediate effect) or in the Reasons for delay queue (if the work requires delay due to any other issue) or in the other reasons queue (if the work isnt possible). Working: Our automated system will keep all the information (email id, phone numbers, etc.) of government officials at all hierarchy. People with requests/ complains will contact the system administrator which would input the requests/complains in the system. The system will inform the relevant government official and keep track of its progress. On the completion of the work, a progress report will be generated which will contain the specific government officials performance along with the complete description of the issues resolved. The Electric Voting System on the other hand, will embrace both means of casting a vote and counting the votes on relevant polling stations.

2. NATIONWIDE PERSONAL INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Personal information management system will maintain personal information for citizens. This will include their NIC, family details, finger prints, job/business details. This system will use information from other government organizations to check registered SIMS, bank accounts information, crime records etc. This information will be used by agencies and law enforcement institutes to investigate crimes, for scrutiny at time of any job interview at Govt. institutes. Citizens can login to this national management system to view their personal information and can send in request to update any information.

3. AGRICULTURE DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM

Every crop needs some ingredients in soil and water. The system will calculate the production for a specific crop on a certain soil bed with certain water quality and use them to plan agriculture growth and implement policies. In many countries, Patwaris have records related to agriculture, and they are considered to be the most corrupt and powerful clerks which do not let the LIS to be implemented. The information will be collected and a knowledge base will be built up which will store the properties of each crop, kinds of soil, etc. The system will also calculate the required number of vegetation to bring down temperature. The atmospheric carbon and chlorophyll will be cross matched, so our system takes vegetation area and carbon presence and tells us how many trees we need to plant in order to bring down the day temperature, as more trees will result in less carbon and carbon is the reason for temperature rise.

4. QURAN REFERENCING SYSTEM

We know the Quran talks about everything. This system should be able to input user queries of what the Quran says about a specific topic and it should come back with Surah number, Ayah number, translation, and even opinions of various scholars both in English and Urdu language. For example, if someone wants to know about what Quran says about urban planning, as in how to establish cities, the user would be able to see all the Surahs, Ayahs, translation, and opinions of different scholars related to urban planning.

5. TRAFFIC MONITORING SYSTEM

This system will use traffic data collected through traffic monitoring radars and cameras installed at different important roads/highways in city and will monitor flow of traffic. In case of any blockage in traffic flow e.g. some accident or maintenance work on road it will raise an alert. This information will be shared with traffic users through Internet/SMS, radio channels and GPRS maps installed in car devices so that they can choose alternate routes to avoid traffic blockage. Moreover, this system will also be used to announce road blockage due to VIP movement.

6. CROSS BORDER HUMAN MOVEMENT MONITOR

The idea is to develop a system that will be able to detect different movements of humans across the border and would alert/warn the army about any peculiar behavior in order to take necessary actions.

7. HOLOGRAPHIC HELMET FOR SOLDIERS

A small microcomputer will be designed and fixed inside the helmet of soldiers which will be able to amplify or distinguish the incoming sound, allow communication between soldiers, and also assist the soldier in battlefield targeting. Voice recognition techniques will be used which will help distinguish between a friend soldier and an enemy. Directional microphones can be used to find different directions to run or head to. All of these will be put it on a transparent LCD inside the helmet as a heads up display, just like we have in front of the pilots sitting in an aircraft.

(This is a bit futuristic, but the things we have now did sound crazy twenty years ago.)

8. ENEMY RANGE FINDER SYSTEM

This system should help the ground soldier differentiate between an enemy fire and a friendly fire. It should also be able to calculate the range and direction of the enemy so that our rangers can hit their targets accurately, locate enemy artillery and assist it in targeting too.

9. NATIONWIDE MEDICAL DATABASE SYSTEM

Sometimes patients have to move from one hospital to another in order to find better treatment or treatment from some specialized practitioners. In such cases either they have to take their whole medical records with them in form of physical files and artifacts or the doctors in other hospital have to start diagnosis right from the beginning. Hence, treatment process is much delayed. Medical DB will integrate Patient History Records from all renowned hospitals into a central database repository. This will facilitate physicians in various hospitals to keep a track of patient history, diagnosis done by other doctors, treatments that the patient has already gone through. This will help physicians in faster diagnosis and better understanding of patients condition. Medical Database will help researchers to access historical data of patients to develop case studies and find out patterns of medicines efficiency in different diseases.

10. ONLINE WEATHER REPORTING SYSTEM

Weather forecasting is the application of scientific methods to study and predict the weather conditions for a certain time in future. Weather prediction can involve historical data analysis as well as monitoring of changes in atmosphere. Weather monitoring system will integrate data collected from weather radars installed in different locations of a city to a central database. Then this collected data will be used to derive useful information to predict future weather and will also monitor any upcoming thunderstorm or hurricanes. Weather monitoring system will keep track of annual trends of rise in temperature and will monitor effects of global warming. This information will be useful for environmental studies.

11. EARTHQUAKE/ FLOOD WARNING SYSTEM

It is believed that earthquakes an result from a number of different geologic processes. An example of one of those processes would be a situation where two of the earth's crustal plates which share a common boarder are moving in different directions. And instead of slipping past one another the rock layers in their shared boarder remain locked together. Over time energy is stored in those rock layers as the pressure for them to slip past one another increases. Eventually that accumulated energy becomes so great that the rock layers fracture. And the sudden release of the stored energy results in an earthquake. It is believed that there are a sizeable number of warning signs or earthquake precursors which signal that energy is being stored in rock layers in earthquake fault zones and that an earthquake may be about to occur. If we can collect enough information regarding those earthquake precursors we can then forecast when and where at least some earthquakes were going to occur. The proposed earthquake prediction program would use the Internet to collect earthquake precursor data submitted through the use of Web site data entry screens, by e-mail and by other means, by individuals, scientific groups, and government agencies around the world. The data would be evaluated and stored in files at some Web site and displayed on expandable, interactive world maps which people could examine at that site. When an earthquake occurred researchers would examine the data files and attempt to determine which earthquake precursors served as accurate and reliable indicators that an earthquake was going to occur. 12. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Classroom management is a term that describes and ensures that classroom lessons run smoothly without any distraction. It is possibly the most difficult aspect of teaching for many teachers; indeed experiencing problems in this area causes some to leave teaching altogether. From the students perspective, effective classroom management involves clear communication between the instructor and the students, as well as a cooperative learning environment .Classroom management is always needed for better discipline and respect. Lacking interest of taking lectures due to fewer facilities in classrooms and less qualified teachers motivates us to develop a separate department in each institute that will be fully concerned and involved in maintaining classrooms and teaching criteria. Classroom management system should be fully responsible to develop, modify the already existing classrooms, hiring and training of teaching faculty and updating the entire systems in a periodic way so that each system will be under consideration and will not be ignored anytime. There should be a web based course management system which should contain all the online lectures of the teachers. In case a student wants to revise the lecture, or if a student is absent, he/she can study online. Furthermore, the students wont have to take notes in the class and not listen to the lecture properly. Secondly, there should be multimedia technology such as smart boards instead of white boards/blackboards. The teacher shouldnt waste all the time in writing lectures on the board. Internet facility should be in all classrooms, and a monitor must also be present that will monitor whether the students are working or chatting online. If the student is chatting, the monitor would check the computer number and the account will be seized there and then. Other checks should also be maintained. Online attendance will also be managed. Usually we find broken chairs and writings written on walls and desks in the classroom. Secondly, sometimes the teacher isnt on time for the lecture, etc. To avoid such issues, a card slot will be designed and programmed. The teacher when enters into the classroom will insert his/her card in the slot. The classroom door lock will then open (certain issues occurring will also be addressed) and the students will enter the classroom as well as the respective course teacher. The time of the class will be set and shown on an interface which would be monitored by the Head of the Department. When the teacher will leave the classroom, he/she will take out the card from the slot, which would lock the doors. Some money would initially be invested on management of the classrooms, but would overall save a lot of damage and cost later on.

13. LDA ONLINE

The idea is to create a web portal for Lahore Development Authority where citizens can apply for Plot Allocation, Plot Transfer or Claim Possession. This will help fast processing of LDA applications, will keep tracking of all applications and will provide a fair channel for allocation of plots. This will hence eradicate the chances of fraud in plot transfers or duplicate issuance of plot registries. Citizens can verify any available plots before purchasing, so that they are sure if they are buying it from original owner. This portal will also provide information about LDA housing societies and other LDA projects.

14. ONLINE FIR LOGGING

Online FR logging system will help citizens to register their FIRs in case of any criminal mishap online. This will reduce the pain of going to Police station and waiting for long to file a FIR. Online FIR system will issue a tracking number against each complaint and this tracking number will be used for further references. Local area Police departments will immediately start investigating on the complaints and police headquarters will keep a track of FIRs registered and ongoing progress on each FIR.

15. OFFICIAL PRINT & COPY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Security of the outputted paper base data management is an issue to address. There must be a system with such security features which will improve the security and eliminate the risk of unauthorized copies of confidential documents in institutes. For example, when the examination department gives a final copy of the transcript to a student scoring not so good grades, the student can manipulate the results using a computer and get a printout of the manipulated results. The system should enable checks on scanned documents, photocopied documents, etc. If the student scans the document to manipulate it, there should automatically be a mark placed within the document tagged as COPIED, which wont allow the user/student to take out a manipulated print of it. Similarly, if a student photocopies the original transcript or degree, the Photostat copy should be marked as Copied. This will prevent the unauthorized copies of confidential documents.

16. ENERGY CONSERVATION SYSTEM

Energy conservation means to reduce the quantity of energy that is used for different purposes. This practice may result in increase of financial capital, environmental value, national and personal security, and human comfort. The idea is to place locally designed sensors, program them and place them in indoor switches. The sensors will sense when a person has entered in a room, and will turn the lights/air conditioners on, and when the person leaves the room, it will turn off the lights (sensing that there is no other person inside the room and on further other conditions as set by the programmer according to the need of people). We can also monitor electricity consumption of homes in Pakistan using a semantic web portal. By using such a technique (sensors and ip enabled thermostats), we can reduce the cost of 100 watts consumed from a tube light to 5-10 watts! We can not only minimize the costs in electricity but also in gas and water.

17. ONLINE HAJJ APPLICATION SYSTEM

To facilitate pilgrimages, an online hajj application system can be introduced. This system will reduce the pain of manually obtaining, filling and submitting Hajj requests. Online balloting system can be used for a fair selection of approved applications. This system will also help in informing selected candidates and then will guide them for the process of hajj. Online tutorials and video lectures can be presented for training of pilgrimages. System will send timely notifications and reminders to all pilgrimages about their flight schedules, and other details.

18. ONLINE JUDICIARY HELP SYSTEM

Case Search provides public Internet access to information from case records maintained by the Judiciary. Case Search will be introduced to satisfy information requests commonly received in the court clerks offices. This information includes names of parties, city and state, case number, date of birth, trial date, charge, and case disposition. The amount of historical data may vary by jurisdiction based on when an automated case management system was deployed and how the system in that jurisdiction has evolved. Moreover, this system will help citizen to understand Law and Legal proceedings. Online portal will help citizens to seek legislative support and counselling from lawyers and practitioners.
