Triggsys A Rising Star

Triggsys sub-30 second win at Wentworth Park last Friday, the first city success from Jane and John Carruthers latest red hot litter, has left his connections lamenting the loss of the dogs dam Elizabeth Royal. After whelping a litter to the Carruthers sensational stud dog Magic Sprite in April 2011, Elizabeth Royal returned to the racetrack and broke 31 seconds in two Richmond 535m wins in late August and midSeptember. This litter is something special but Elizabeth Royal has since died, Jane Carruthers said at WP. She was fine when she went to bed but we found her dead the next morning. We believe her death was caused by her stomach flipping. Elizabeth Royal had a beautiful nature but was especially greedy when eating, she would always gob-

Prince Rinaldis Upset Result

Bolter Prince Rinaldis upset win at Wentworth Park last Friday night encapsulated the glorious uncertainty of racing and the platform the greyhounds code provides for battlers to taste success. Before the Site Image Landscape Architects Stake Frank Whitehead, whose wife Gwenda bred, owns and trains Prince Rinaldi said: Our dog is pretty handy when he gets on the bunny but he cant win this, he cant beat Jasons dog. Frank of course was referring to Jason Mackays One Inch Punch, but the script was rewritten when the favourite bungled the start and got caught up in a traffic jam at the first turn. Prince Rinaldi, starting from what Gwenda describes as his favourite draw, box eight, had jumped in front. He was ankle-tapped at the first turn when speedster Scouts Gold speared off the track and flattened Nicks Pinch, with the Whiteheads dog copping the backwash. But Prince Rinaldi showed plenty of grit to keep chasing and retain the lead before scoring by two lengths. Prince Rinaldi has now won nine of 39 starts and earned $14,000 prizemoney for the Western Sydney battlers, who have only two dogs and have the other perpetually on the injured list. Frank is a retired garbo who, with Gwenda, has made greyhound breeding and racing his hobby for over 30 years. A good stayer called Velvet Angel would be the best we have had but while we havent had any world beaters we have never paid much money for any of our dogs and have had a lot of fun, Frank said after Prince Rinaldis race. We bred Prince Rinaldi from our bitch Munyahna, who was nothing flash on the track but had back problems throughout her career. Her first litter was not much good but we mated her with Give Me Five and got Prince Rinaldi in December, 2009. Unfortunately that was the last litter we got from Munyahna as she has since been killed by a brown snake on our property at Vineyard.

ble her food. Weve been told that on rare occasions this can cause the dog to take in air at the same time and when they lay down their stomach can somehow flip over. It seems the only explanation. Triggsy, named after John Carruthers friend Alan Triggs, who lives at Iluka, has won six of 12 starts and is the star of the litter. But littermates Being Good, Grand Journey and Royal Sprite have stared at the provincials while Clockwise, Happy Journey and Magic And More are promising maidens. Royal Sprite won twice before hurting a toe but then smashed into a gate and badly injured his head so we dont know if he will come back, Jane said. We have a big opinion of Being Good too but Triggsy surprised me with his 29.82 run tonight. He previously trialled only 30.27

caption caption at Wenty but they do improve as our maiden Clockwise trialled 30.58 before winning her performance trial for the Magic Maiden series in 30.09. And another maiden, Happy Journey clocked 30.72 in a trial but cut this down to 30.15 in a pre-Magic Maiden performance trial. Jane and John Carruthers raced and trained Rapid Journey, who amassed $530,995 in an era where prizemoney fell well short of todays $200,000-plus group one finals. Yet Rapid Journey remains the fifth all time stakes earner after Miata ($671,508), High Earner, El Grand Senor and Radley Bale.

Membership Renewal Time Again

It is once again time for all participants involved in the sport of greyhound racing in NSW to renew their licences with Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW). Current licences with GRNSW will expire on 30 June 2013. Membership renewal packs for all Trainers, Owner Trainers and Attendants were posted in late February 2013. If you are a registered person with GRNSW and do not receive your renewal information in the coming weeks, please contact the Member Services team on 8767 0500 and they will arrange to have it re-sent to you. GRNSW is once again offering an Earlybird Renewal Promotion for members to renew their licences as early as possible. If members renew their membership prior to 5 April 2013, they will go into a draw to win a choice of $500 worth of petrol from Caltex or $500 worth of pet supplies from Advance. So renew your licence early to make sure you go into the draw to win! GRNSW has started the membership renewal process earlier than usual this year in order to collect all of the data required to facilitate the transition to centralised payments of prizemoney in the TAB sector (which comes into effect on 1 July 2013). New licence cards for the 2013-15 registration period will be distributed by GRNSW in May 2013.
