1. Hallmarks and Five Star Chapter Initiatives

• Regional Convention: will take place from February 19-22 and

several PTK officers will be attending as well as the advisor,

Professor Stokes

2. Membership and Orientations

• Orientation: Orientation session drew record amounts of

prospective members with the interested in joining PTK; Around

60-65 members have interest in joining, and 32 have registered


• Spring Induction: There will be a nomination of a new

outstanding member during the induction; the keynote speaker

for the induction will be Phil Martin

• Springs Honors Luncheon: The Spring Honors Luncheon will take

place on March 7 from 12.30pm-2.30pm. PTK officers will arrive

at 11.30am to set-up; a list was passed to confirm what food the

officers were bringing. There will be a distribution of pot-luck

donation sheet, which includes supplies. The speaker for the

Luncheon will be Professor Shalan.

3. Fundraising &Service Projects


• Saint Valentine’s Bake Sale: The profits for the bake sale

exceeded expectations, with an estimated amount of $706

raised. This is a new record from last year and the profits will go

to the Susan G. Combs Breast Cancer Awareness. Special thanks

to the PTK members for bringing in baked goods as well as the

former PTK president in donating baked goods.

• Spring Book Sale: Set-up for the book sale will take place on

Sunday, February 22 anytime from 7.30am to 10.30am. The

team leaders assigned for the book sale were Sheila Casey and

Megan Andrade. 10 members have volunteered to join in with

the book sale set-up. The Book sale will take place all day from

February 23-27. Fliers are in circulation to advertise, also a mass


email will be sent out to new members. Relay for Life cards will

be sold at the Book Sale for $1.

• Spring Blood Drive: There will be a blood drive on March 10th

from 10am-5pm. Volunteers are needed to help sign up potential

donors. NJ blood service gave us promotional materials to

advertise for the blood drive.

• St. Patrick’s Day: There will be a possible bake sale on March 17th

in order to raise money for an organization researching Down’s

syndrome; this idea was proposed by Robert W. Fernandez in

order to raise money to support cures for Down’s syndrome.

• Earth Day: Earth’s Day will take place on March 20th. There

might be a fundraiser using reusable shopping bags. Also, PTK

will bring contribute to Recycling Bins, by creating signs that

create awareness on what to recycle.

• Belmar Beach Cleanup: the Belmar Beach Cleanup will take

place on April 25th from 10am-2pm. At 10am, participants

convene at Ocean Avenue and 16th St. The cleanup is an

international service program sponsored by Hudson County

Community College.

• Habitat for Humanity: This is a possible volunteer opportunity

which includes both construction and non-construction roles. Its

purpose is to build homes for low-income families. This will take

place in Middlesex Division, either in Avenel or Plainfield. The

• Relay for Life: The Relay for Life is a fundraiser for the cancer

society. It will take place on May 29th on the Memorial Field on

Cranford. Our chapter has been registered as team Iota Xi. PTK

has been given a folder full of forms, bags, and donation forms.

Up to 15 people can volunteer. The Bulletin Board will be use for

advertising purposes. PTK Iota Xi has a Relay for Life website,

which is a link directly to the Relay for Life information, where

one can donate. Thanks to Rachel Pribish for her efforts in

setting up this opportunity.

4. Other Announcements

• T-shirts: PTK has received their custom T-shirts. Any additional

PTK t-shirts will cost $20.

• Newsletters: the newsletter distribution and completion was a

success. Special thanks are given to Joe for the management of

the newsletter, also to Sheila Casey and Diana P. Gonzalez for

their hard work editing it. The newsletter will circulate twice a

month, entries are encouraged.

• Earth Hour: It will take place on March 28th at 8.30pm. All lights

and electrical appliances will be turned off for an hour in order to

conserve energy.
• Planned Parenthood: there has been discussion about promoting

a Planned Parenthood talks in the Cranford or Elizabeth Campus.

It will promote Aids Testing as well as Safe Sex information.

• Video-game Tournament: A possible event proposed by the PTK

president Maria and Joe Eulo is a video-game tournament in

which competitors will complete for a prize. The date is

undecided as well as the place. The entry for joining this

tournament is $10 and refreshments served include pizza.

• Movie Night: Diana P. Gonzalez proposed an Honors Movie Night,

possibly located in the Elizabeth Campus. It will take place

around mid-April before exams.

• Down’s syndrome Awareness: Robert W. Fernandez proposed to

support a Down syndrome organization through bake sale or a

fundraising event around St. Patrick’s Day. More information will

be given during the next meeting.

• Feed the Mind: Ana Maria, Sheila Casey, Joe Eulo, and Diana P.

Gonzalez are working on a documentary for Feed the Mind. The

documentary will explain what it is and who is benefiting from

this charity cause. In order for people to donate to this

organization, an account will need to be opened, possible a

chapter account. This will be brought up during National

Convention in order to support awareness of this worthy cause.


• Alumni Association mixer: A member Alumni Jeff proposed a

mixer to rejuvenate association between PTK and the Alumni

Association.

• PTK and PSI Beta: PTK and PSI Beta will discuss holding a mix

event, possibly a talent show or a dance-a-thon. The Psi Beta

president Kevan Pidgeon Hammock and other officers will stop

by next meeting to discuss the possible combined efforts of

joining together for a worthy cause. This will help in bringing

more club association with PTK.

Next Meeting: Thursday, February 26, 2009 from 12:30 pm

to 1:30 pm in the alumni conference room in the

Nomahegan building.
