laundry, CM will independently sort laundry, wash and dry laundry and put laundry away by folding or hanging. 2) Given dirty laundry and sorting containers, CM will independently sort laundry into darks, lights, brights and whites with 91-100% accuracy for 3 consecutive months. 3) Given previously sorted dirty laundry, CM will independently load a washing machine with dirty clothes and detergent and load a dryer with wet clean laundry and a dryer sheet with 91-100% accuracy for 3 consecutive months. 4) Given previously washed and dried laundry and picture prompts, CM will independently fold or hang laundry according to his folding/hanging chart and picture prompts with 91-100% accuracy for 3 consecutive months. Sites for Instruction Community Based Instruction would occur at a public Laundromat facility near CMs home. This is chosen because CM would be in an environment where he could visualize others doing the same work as him, and use these naturally occurring instances as examples. Similarly, choosing a Laundromat close to his home would aid him in that he could go there to do laundry for his family as well since he would be familiar with the layout and machines. As far as advanced preparation, it would be important to look up bus routes to get to this Laundromat facility both from
school for community based instruction, but also from CMs home so that he could go on his own. Going to the Laundromat and using the washers and dryers prior to instruction would be necessary in order to understand how the machines work in order to properly create a task analysis for CM to follow. This would also allow prior knowledge on how long CM will need for each outing to see how long a wash cycle and how long a drying cycle take. Instruction can also occur in the classroom with practice sorting and folding/hanging. Implementation Time of day: Morning, before lunchtime Amount of time: Transportation to the Laundromat time + 10 minutes sorting time + wash cycle time + dry cycle time + fold/hang time + transportation home time. Approximate guess of about 2 hours. Frequency: Two days per week (can eventually be faded out to one day per week, then once every two weeks, then once a month, etc.) Monday and Wednesday. Routines/ Skill clusters: How to wait for the bus, knowing which bus to take, knowing how to get on the bus and showing the bus driver your id, knowing when to pull the line to signal your stop, knowing how to sort laundry, knowing how to put in detergent, knowing how to start washing, knowing how to start dryer and use a dryer sheet, knowing how to fold/hang, etc. Student grouping: This is particularly designed for one student and one teachers aid/paraprofessional while others are off at community vocational settings. This could be turned into a group if multiple students live near one Laundromat and need the skills and instruction.
Staffing: One paraprofessional to one student. If it were made into a group multiple paraprofessionals would need to be present for the multiple students. Transportation: We would take the MTD bus lines, which all students and staff can ride for free. We would look up routes and times prior to leaving and have multiple options for flexibility. Expenses: Students have money in the classroom to use, however, this is a small expense (roughly $1.75 for a wash and $1.50 for a dry) that I as the teacher would be willing to pay.
