Parking Area
Grades 2 - 4 parents must use the WEST ENTRANCE (next to the towers / Emergency Entrance) as the ONLY entrance and exit. Grades 2 - 4 parents must park on the side closest to the school, for easier access for their children. Grades 5 - 10 parents must park on the opposite side of the road, i.e. where the JP block is going up. Grades 1 -10 students and parents may ONLY use the MAIN ENTRANCE to enter and exit the school. We urge parents not to block oncoming traffic in the car park and always to be mindful of young children who might dash across the road.
Things to remember::
Every teaching day starts punctually at 8AM. Parents are urged to drop their children off by 7:45 enabling them to be well prepared for the day. Please be mindful that the beginning of the day is not an opportunity for parents to interact or converse with the teachers as they are preparing for the day ahead. Grade 1 children are allowed to be dropped off at the right hand door from 7:15. Only Grade 1 children are allowed to go through this gate as the ELS has its own Early bird policy. This door will be locked at 7:30 and pupils are to then go through the main Piazza. Grade 2 and 3 pupils who arrive early are to drop their bags off at their classrooms and go down to the field where a teacher will be on duty to ensure your childs safety. Parent lounge The Parent lounge is an online facility specially developed for parents to access relevant information regarding the school. An email has been sent with a password to log into this facility. It is now operational and is available at your leisure. Parent Lounge will give you access to your childs timetable, the school calendar, your contact details, email addresses of each of your childs teachers and your school account balance. Holding class This class is available only if your child is waiting for a sibling in the higher grades. Please familiarise yourself as to which holding class your child will be sent to. Children must be fetched punctually at the end of the school day at 1:30PM. If your child is doing an extra-curricular activity they will be fetched by the respective teacher and you are to fetch them immediately after the activity. Children not collected punctually will be booked into Adventure zone and charged accordingly. Adventure Zone Adventure Zone for Grade One is in the ELS block in teacher Nicolas class. For Grade two and three is in the first level of the prep school. For more information please see page 9. School House Colours All children have been allocated to a school house. T-shirts for the different houses are available at the uniform shop. Your teachers will inform new children as to which house they belong to. If they have older siblings they will be in the same house.

Bread tags: There is an ongoing drive in the school to collect bread tags. We hope to be able to collect 247.5kg of bread tags so that a wheelchair will be donated to the school by CE Mobility, QASA (Quadriplegic Association of SA), Groplast, MFI and the Polystyrene Packaging Council. Once we have the wheelchair we will be able to donate it to a needy, disabled child. Containers have been placed in each classroom for your child to put the bread tags in. Please ask grannies, grandpas, aunts, uncles and neighbours to collect!
Catherine Dickerson: Catherine is joining the specialist team at Reddam Waterfall to teach Art and Design and Technology with the Junior Primary. She has been a practicing fine artist making sculptures, since completing her Masters in Fine Art at UCT. Catherine has worked with children for many years and has been part of many art exhibitions. Catherine has focused on making large scale inflatable sculptures that use air and fans to grow in size. She uses plastic bags and sews them into shapes of animals and plants. Here is a picture of a school of jellyfish and a lion from one of her exhibitions!
Extra-curricular Sports and Cultural Programme: If you have been wondering what we will be doing in our Stitch craft activity? Stitccraft Club is a project based activity where we focus on fabric and needlework. It encourages fine motor co-ordination, planning and design work. Each week will be a progression of the skills learnt the week before and will be filled with very rewarding outcomes. This class is run Mrs Fitzgerald and Mrs Spring. Woodwork Club is a class where children will learn the basics of wood and wood related crafts. The process of gluing wood, hammering, sanding, painting and cutting wood will be explored in different activities each week. It will be run by Miss Hill and specialist teacher Miss D Lego Club is a building class that encourages lateral thinking, team building and planning. It involves lots of lego and a final product to be proud of! This class has limited availability so it is on a first come and first serve basis organised by Mrs Muller.
Reddams new Drama specialist was asked to do a performance in assembly on Friday and this is what she thought...
When asked to tell a story at assembly I was flattered as well as terrified. I find my biggest critics outside of myself to be, children, yet they critique with such love and honesty that one has no choice but to listen and make the necessary change. I thought I might not be able to pull it off. Choosing a story was easy the hard work was making sure that my delivery was going to hold the attention of 200 honoured guests, the grade 1-3 Reddam children. The Chief, the tortoise and the drum is story about belief, peace within your heart, caring and sharing what one has with the community of people around you. It encourages one to break free from your rigid mind set by believing in your heart that anything can happen. Well to my surprise the children and teachers at Reddam listened with open hearts and minds, and in that encouraged me to belief that. Anything is possible when you have peace in your heart. So keep an eye out for the moral of next weeks story. Keep on believing Ms A Reddam JP Drama teacher
