5. Have students pair up and collaborate on why horses were so important to the Plains Native Americans. 6. They will then write a thank you card to the horses from the perspective of the Native Americans. (How did they feel to have horses? What kinds of things did the horses make better or easier for the Native Americans? Think back to the power point and our discussion) 7. CLOSURE: Reiterate the importance of horses through class discussion (using questions from the script), have students share their reasoning. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? Students thank you cards will show evidence of understanding or lack of understanding. Question and answers at the end of the activity. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. If students do not understand the concept, I will need to find out where they need help understanding. Can they verbally tell me about the Plains Indians? Can they write about them? Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? The power point and teacher script will be the easiest to teach. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? Conveying how big it was for the Native Americans to finally have horses. This is like one day, we have bikes, and the next day we have a car! That makes a big difference in our society. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? This lesson can be extended by doing a lesson on the types of horses present in the area of the Great Plains. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? Work one on one with the students discussing the topic of confusion. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? It would be nice to find a kid friendly video that portrays the importance of having horses to the students. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part?

The most difficult part is finding the materials that match with the topic. Making sure it lines up with the last 3 lessons and is staying on track for the lessons remaining. Materials:
**Native American Booklet is an unknown source; I snagged it from a teacher I observed a few semesters ago. The title of this book is Native Americans. The first page is for the Rivers and seas Native Americans, the second page will be for the Pla ins Native Americans, the third page will be for the Desert Native Americans and the last page for the Forest Native Americans. On each page the students will write the sentence dictated by the teacher. They will then draw a picture to match**
