This beautifully and painstakingly hand-inlayed instrument is also one of the most versatile Cajons on the market. Its deep, resonant bass tones are awe-inspiring. Playing with hands closer to the edges results in multiple levels of snap as the minimalist guitar string wires are engaged, resulting in some truly sublime effects. The wires are configured diagonally across the corners of the Cajon for reduced snare sound while playing bass tones. An increased number of adjustable screws also results in greater control over snap and resonance. Have we mentioned its also a work of art? The seamless finish features Peruvian hardwood dovetailed corners with smoothly rounded joints. And individual multicoloured wood tiles are arranged into a spectacular wooden mosaic. How do you build the finest drums in the world? You begin with handselected, quarter-sawn Appalachian Red Oak. Each stave is meticulously cut and bent by hand. Steel rings are hammered into place, and the staves are allowed to cure for months. The shells are hand-glued, hammered into shape and turned by skilled craftsmen who have used these traditional methods for over 30 years. By the time they are hand-sanded to a baby soft finish, an entire year has passed.

Best known for his award-winning work with fusion legends Weather Report, Alex Acua continues his prodigious musical output with a whos who of artists in music and film. We crafted his Special Edition drums from select North American Ash in the same traditional Cuban shape Alex has been playing since 1954. California series tight-profile top ring and Gon Bops side and backing plates make for a hardware package that is secondto-none. Finished with a stunning Ebony stain lacquer and custom Remo Skyndeep heads, Alex Acua Special Edition drums look as good as they sound.

I started playing Gon Bops in 1954 they were the first conga maker in the US. Theyd make two or three for me, and they were beautiful. They always sounded so good. And you know, theyre still that way today. They have a very clear tone, just like the old Cuban Congas. Alex Acua.

Designed with cold-rolled Steel shells that produce bright, lively cascara (the sound produced when playing a rhythmic pattern on the shell), Tumbao Timbales are versatile enough for Jazz, Rock and Latin music. The low-profile hardware design means tension rods and stand adjustments are flush with the rim to eliminate hits on the rods while playing. The Mega-Tripod base on our Gon Bops 3-Series Timbale stand includes an extra clamp to lock inside tube securely against outside tube for increased stability and the ability to add more bells and accessories.
