Coldplay is a British pop rock band formed in London in 1996. The group comprises Chris Martin (vocals, keyboard, guitar), Jonny Buckland (lead guitar), Guy Berryman (bass guitar) and Will Champion (drums, backing vocals and other instruments). Coldplay's early work made the band was repeatedly compared with artists such as Oasis, Radiohead, INXS, U2 and Travis.3 They achieved international success with the release of their single "Yellow", followed by their debut album, Parachutes (2000 ), which was nominated for the Mercury Prize. History

1996-2001: Beginnings and Parachutes Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland first met during their orientation week at the University of London in September 1996, and were trying to form a band while in college, eventually to form a group called Pectoralz.11 Later Guy Berryman, classmate of the two, joined the group. In 1997, the band, renamed Starfish and had started playing in clubes.12 Martin also invited his old school

friend Phil Harvey, a student at Oxford, to be the manager of the banda.13 Since then, Harvey is the Coldplay.14 fifth member, however, the original lineup was completed with Will Champion, head of the percussion.
