Coldplay is a British pop rock band formed in London in 1996. The group comprises Chris Martin (vocals, keyboard, guitar), Jonny Buckland (lead guitar), Guy Berryman (bass guitar) and Will Champion (drums, backing vocals and other instruments). Coldplay's early work made the band was repeatedly compared with artists such as Oasis, Radiohead, INXS, U2 and Travis.3 They achieved international success with the release of their single "Yellow", followed by their debut album, Parachutes (2000 ), which was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002) won multiple awards, including Album of the Year by the NME. Though his third album, X & Y (2005) did not cause much excitement, had also a positive reception. The fourth studio album from the band, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008) was produced by Brian Eno and generated excellent reviews, coming to receive Grammy nominations and other kinds of Coldplay have sold internationally homenajes.4 50 million copias.5

To date the album has sold over 6 million copies, being the best rock album sold worldwide since the last album the band released in 2008.

History

1996-2001: Beginnings and Parachutes Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland first met during their orientation week at the University of London in September 1996, and were trying to form a band while in college, eventually to form a group called Pectoralz.11 Later Guy Berryman, classmate of the two, joined the group. In 1997, the band, renamed Starfish and had started playing in clubes.12 Martin also invited his old school

friend Phil Harvey, a student at Oxford, to be the manager of the banda.13 Since then, Harvey is the Coldplay.14 fifth member, however, the original lineup was completed with Will Champion, head of the percussion. His first release was the EP Brothers & Sisters, which was recorded in just four days in February 1999.16 After completing their final examinations, Coldplay signed a five-album contract with Parlophone in the spring of 1999.17 After making their first appearance at Glastonbury, the band returned to the studio, this time to record an EP titled The Blue Room.18 Five thousand copies were put to the public in October, and the single "Bigger Stronger" was broadcast on BBC.19 The recording sessions for The Blue Room were very hectic. Champion Martin drove the band, but then begged him to come, and because of him, he got drunk. Eventually, the group was able to smooth things over and established a regulation. Based on bands like U2 and REM, Coldplay would be a democracy, and agreed that the revenue would be divided equally. Additionally, they agreed to expel any member who came to consume drogas.20
