Live Forever, or Die Trying- A Movie Review of In Time A 2011 Sci-Fi movie, In Time was written, produced, and

directed by Andrew Niccol, who is also the director and writer of the famous movie, Gattaca. In Time stars Justin Timberlake as Will Salas, and Amanda Seyfried as Sylvia Weis. The movie brings us to the year 2161, where people would stop aging at 25. However, people are required to earn more time for them to be able to live longer. They would die immediately once their accumulated time reaches to zero. Time is replaced by the money we use today. They are allowed to give and take the 'time amongst individuals through body-contact. Ones time availability is displayed on their lower arm. One day, Will Salis, a poor 28 year-old factory worker saves the rich, 105 year old Henry Hamilton, who was assaulted in a time-robbery a bar. Later that night, Henry gives his 116 years to Will when he was asleep. He kept only five minutes for himself, which he used it to go and sit on a ledge on a bridge. As Henry Hamilton runs out of time, he falls into the river. The Timekeepers (our police nowadays), had various theories as to his death. Some assumed that he had "timed out", others are convinced that he was murdered by Will. Will flirts with the spoiled daughter of the millionaire Philippe Weis, Sylvia Weis in a party. When the timekeeper, Raymond, attempts to arrest him, Will kidnaps Sylvia. Together, Will and Sylvia tries to fight against the time system. In Time shows many examples of fictitious, science-based depictions of phenomena, such as the genetic alteration which allows humanity to stop aging at 25. Another factor is the time system, where time replaced money. In this movie, they can trade their time with one another through body contact, and they can see the amount of time they have left on display which is implanted on their arms. These features in the film all shows how it makes it a typical sci-fi film. I personally dislike this movie. It is an unrealistic, unbelievable and unreal dystopian science fiction action film. This movie brings up a lot of loose ends and raises many questions with no answers. For example, who runs the city? Is the rest of the world like this? How did the aging process get halted? However, it does reflect on some of the social thoughts, such as how time is as valuable as money, as well as fictional solutions to ageing population/over-population. The movie was released on the 28th of October.
