Internship Brief
is an introduction to the industry and understanding of designers role and responsibility in this context. It is aimed at providing the Knitwear Design students with a professional design experience by familiarizing them with a working knowledge of functioning of the apparel industry and the relationship between design and production. The eight-weeks of on-the-job training develop practical orientation towards the functioning of the apparel industry. Interning trainees can contribute to the industry in the areas of design, supervision, sample development and merchandising. The subsequent feedback and performance appraisal received from the industry play an important role in enriching the course curriculum which, in turn, helps the department to train design professionals who can play a more strategic role. The training programme involves 1-2 weeks of orientation of the company, the infrastructure set up and its mode of functioning. In the remaining six weeks the students begin the project of designing and executing a collection as per the specific design brief given by the company. The details of the internship are given below for your kind reference: Mandatory Requirements : S. No. 1 Duration 1st and 2nd Week Activity Intensive exposure and training with special emphasis on range development. 1. About the company and exposure to all departments 2. Range development 6 Understanding the process and to come up with a mini collection of 8-12 swatches or 4-6 ensembles in accordance with the design brief given by the company. The collection will be the property of the company and given to the students on returnable basis after the jury evaluation in NIFT. Proposed Inputs: A. Application of systems i) Experiencing to work with real time constraints (Time, cost, raw materials, resources, etc) ii) Getting a feel of internal and external quick response needs. iii) Experiencing the supply chain (Vendormanufacturer-buyer relationships) iii) To have an experience on different quality systems followed in industry (how the systems are followed). C. Professional Interpersonal Skills i) Pre-job testing of the students skills and developing focus on specific areas ii) Interdepartmental communication iii) Team work in real scenario iii) Accountability and responsibility iv) Understanding the culture of the industry.

Other important points to note: 1. One Faculty mentor wills regularly follow-up with the companys Project Coordinator about the progress of the student. 2. Each student will have to document the entire process and submit to the department.
3. Every student will have to report to the company every working day for mandatory eight weeks. 4. Every student will have to maintain a learning diary which has to be submitted during the jury along with the main document. 5. The company will have to give a completion certificate at the end of the internship.
