    INSTRUCTIONS When joining colors, work to last 2 loops on hook of first color.

    . Draw new color through last 2 loops and proceed. When joining a new color, leave a tail approximately 4 inches [10 centimeters] long to ensure you are left with enough yarn to weave in your end.

    BASIC STRIPED FRENCH PRESS COZY


    (TO CROCHET) MEASUREMENT Approx 16 inches [40.5 centimetres] circumference. MATERIALS Lily Sugarn Cream (Solids: 70.9 g/2.5 oz; 109 m/120 yds) Contrast A 00009 (Bright Navy) 1 ball Contrast B 00001 (White) 1 ball Size 5 mm (U.S. H/8) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge. Large eye blunt-ended needle. GAUGE 13 single crochets and 14 rows = 4 inches [10 centimeters].

    (Make 2 pieces alike). With A, chain 30.


    SLIP KNOT

    Make a loop, then hook another loop through it.

    Tighten gently and slide the knot up to the hook.

    CHAIN STITCH

    Yarn over hook (yoh) and draw the yarn through to form a new loop without tightening up the previous one.

    Repeat to form as many chains (ch) as required. Do not count the slip knot as a stitch.

    1st row: 1 single crochet in 2nd chain from hook. *Chain 1. Miss next chain. 1 single crochet in next chain. Repeat from * to end of chain. Turn. (You should have 15 single crochet and 14 chain-1 spaces at end of row).
    SINGLE CROCHET

    FASTEN OFF

    Insert the hook into the work (2nd chain (ch) from hook on starting chain), *yarn over hook (yoh) and draw yarn through the work only.

    Yarn over hook (yoh) again and draw the yarn through both loops on the hook.

    Fasten off by cutting working yarn approx 6 inches [15 centimeters] long and draw this end through last loop. Pull tightly to secure.

    Weave in ends.
    WEAVING IN ENDS

    1 single crochet (sc) made. Insert hook into next stitch: repeat (rep) from * in step 1. Thread yarn through a blunt tip large eye needle and make small alternating stitches along the wrong side edge of your work. After you have worked about 2 inches [5 centimeters] in one direction, turn and work backwards alternating over the spaces you just worked. Now you can safely cut the end.

    2nd row: Chain 1. 1 single crochet in first single crochet. *1 single crochet in next chain 1 space. Chain (ch) 1. Miss next chain. Repeat from * 10 times more. ]1 single crochet in next chain 1 space. 1 single crochet in last single crochet. Join B (see note). Turn. (You should have 16 single crochet and 13 chain-1 spaces at end of row). 3rd row: With B, ch 1. 1 single crochet (sc) in first sc. *Ch 1. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next chain 1 space (ch-1 sp). Repeat (rep) from * to last 2 stitches. Ch 1. Miss next sc. 1 sc in last sc. Turn. (You should have 15 sc and ]14 ch-1 spaces at end of row). 4th row: As 2nd row. Join A (see note). Turn. 5th row: With A, as 3rd row. Repeat 2nd to 5th rows for pattern until work from beginning measures 8 inches [20.5 centimeters] ending with 2 rows of either color. Fasten off.

    Ties: Along side of work, join A with slip stitch 1 inches [4 centimeters] down from top edge. Chain 20. Fasten off. Along side of work, join A with slip stitch 1 inches [4 centimeters] up from bottom edge. Chain 20. Fasten off. Repeat on opposite side.
