The Wheels of Progress: The Transportation Initiative


The BJP has radical plans to transform Delhis transportation system. Incentivising more and more people to switch from private vehicle use to public transportation will fulfil our governments primary objective of making Delhi the worlds Green Capital.

1. End-to-end Connectivity to the Commuter


Integrate all modes of public transport and ensure that passengers can go seamlessly from origin to their destination. The Metro Rail, DTC and Cluster bus systems, Metrofeeder buses and ring-railway to be integrated to provide end-to-end connectivity to the commuter.

2. Last Mile Vehicle for Metro and Rail commuters


Strengthen the metro feeder bus network and introduce three-wheel battery operated rickshaws on a large scale as a last mile vehicle for metro and rail commuters. All metro, rail and bus stations to have adequate availability of feeder and last mile vehicles.

3. Public Transport Reforms


Make public transport attractive by re-introducing modern, low floor buses on a large scale and mono-rail. Expanding the existing metro network to all parts of Delhi and neighboring areas. We will explore the deployment of Personal Rapid Transit (Podcar) networks in congested areas.

4. One Delhi Card


Introducing: One Delhi Card, a unified contact-less smart card that can be seamlessly used in all forms of public transport - Metro rail, Metrofeeder buses, DTC and Cluster buses. Citizens to be able to buy and re-charge the card online. Students to be provided the smart cards at concessional rates.

5. Passenger Information System


An integrated Passenger Information System to provide route guides, time tables, and real-time information at all bus stops and metro stations.

6. Technology to Improve Public Transport Safety


GPS devices to be fitted in all public transport vehicles. Vehicles to be monitored through a central control room. Electronic meters with a ticketing and receipt facility to be put in all autos and taxis. A database of drivers of all public transport vehicles to be maintained to ensure proper monitoring. Serial offenders to be black-listed.

7. Priority to Public Transport in Road Planning


Priority to be given to public transport in road planning. Where appropriate, road space to be reserved for public transport vehicles, emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire-tenders, and law enforcement vehicles.

8. Buses to Double
The number of public buses will be doubled considering the acute shortage that Delhi is facing today.

9. Special Buses for Women


Ladies Special bus services will be introduced on a large scale. All buses will have CCTV cameras for security of women and senior citizens.

10. World Class ISBTs


Modern, world-class Inter-State Bus Terminals to be built in Narela and Nazafgarh. Terminals at Anand Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan to be upgraded to international standards.

11. Tackling Congestion and Reducing Pollution


To ease the congestion on the roads of Delhi and reduce pollution by ensuring the completion of the Western and Eastern Peripheral Expressways. This will ensure inter-city vehicles do not pass through Delhi.

12. Encouragement to Electric Vehicles


We will provide special incentives for electric vehicles. Electric vehicles purchased in Delhi shall be exempted from sales tax and be provided subsidies and low interest loans.

13. Delhi: The Bicycle Friendly City


We will provide pavements and cycle lanes to make our city pedestrian and bicycle friendly.

14. Special Plans for Walled City & Congested Areas


A special transportation plan will be made for the walled city and congested areas. Dwarka being Asias largest township will be given special attention.

15. Road Repairs and Constructions to Occur at Night


To reduce inconvenience to citizens, road repair and construction works will be permitted only at night and as per an approved time-table.

16. Intelligent Signaling Systems


To ease congestion, we will introduce Intelligent Signaling Systems on key roads in the city.

17. Parking Master Plan


A Parking Master Plan to be prepared to provide solutions to the parking problems of the city. Multi-level parking lots to be built on a large scale in public-private partnership.
