Availability Advertising

P
Guidelines
Product Advertising is the priority, and a robust campaign must be running in your market in order to be eligible to run complementary Tactical Advertising. To run the launch campaign in your market, please obtain and complete the iPhone 4SAdvertising Order Form and return it to your Apple Advertising Contact. Follow the detailed creative development and media planning/buying guidelines outlined in the iPhone 4S Advertising Guidelines supplement, provided by your Apple Corporate Advertising Manager. Apple must review and approve all advertising before it can go live. Only Apple-provided templates, images, and assetsare to be used in advertising campaigns. No pre-launch advertising is permitted, except for Search Engine Marketing. No Tactical Advertising is permitted to run until 30 days after availability.

The best way to create desire for iPhone 4S is to visually demonstrate its unique features and functions. Our advertising strategy continues to do this, with a focus on television and its ability to showcase the device through sight, sound and motion. To support iPhone 4S, Product Advertising will take priority in the market, and must be supported in order to be eligible for running supplemental Tactical Advertising activity. For more detailed information on how to support iPhone 4S through advertising, please refer to the iPhone 4S Advertising Guidelines supplement or contact your Apple Corporate Advertising Manager. Tactical Communications
This section details the guidelines and assets available for the development of creative for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, and iPhone 3GS.

Tactical Guidance

T
Since well be working together to create Tactical Communications, we thought it would help to share the principles that guide us at Apple. We hope theyll guide you, too.

Working with each other.

The product is hero.

Our focus is always on the product. Always. As a result, iPhone 4S should be featured on its own within the smartphone conversation. (iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS should be featured inline with other smartphones.) We believe in the strength of the product. iPhone should be prominently featured in your Tactical Communications.

Less is more. Consistency is crucial.

Strive for simple, clean, and uncluttered product presentation and communications.

Its true. Were fanatics about this one. Thats why we made the Marketing Guide youre reading right now. And why we have the following guidelines: Only creative assets provided by Apple can be used in iPhone Marketing Communications. Do not shoot your own product photography or develop your own iPhone product copy. iPhone creative assets, including imagery and copy, cannot be changed, edited, or modified. Do not develop your own iPhone editorial content without prior consent. Only use the latest iPhone product copy and imagery. Remove outdated creative assets. Do not use iPhone to promote or sell other products or services. Do not use the Apple logo. If you want to market apps that you have developed, please follow the App Marketing and Identity Guidelines for Developers found at developer.apple.com

Were here to help.

Please work with your Apple Marketing contact on any other marketing opportunities or tactical executions.

35

Tactical Communications

T
Guidelines
Tactical Communications are to be used in addition to Product Communications, not in place of them.

Tactical Communications are used to present your own points of differentiation (i.e., price, network information, etc.) and to provide consumers clear reasons why they should buy iPhone from you.

iPhone 4S. Now on the best network.

Insert tariff/network service-based headline here.

Only use the iPhone tactical imagery provided by Apple for your Tactical Communications. Tactical Communication headlines should be tariff/network/service-based, not product-based. The iPhone image should be at least 50% of the overall size of media. Tactical messaging is secondary to the iPhone tactical image. Insert iPhone logo lockup at the bottom of Tactical Communications. It should appear equal in size or smaller than your logo.

Dominant tactical image, at least 50% of overall size of media and located prominently on the page.

The iPhone logo can only be used in black or white. You control the background color, messaging, and layout of Tactical Communications. Design the Tactical Communications in your look and feel. Maintain your brand identity. Do not mimic the colors, imagery, copy, or layout of Product Communications.

SIM Card Packaging

P
Guidelines
If you are required to attach a SIM card to iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, or iPhone 3GS packages, use the template and dimensions provided on this page. The SIM card packaging should be adhered to the existing shrink wrap on the iPhone box. Do not shrink wrap over the SIM card packaging. Do not tape the bottom edge of the SIM card packaging to the iPhone box. Per legal requirements, the SIM card packaging must be able to flip up so customers can read feature information on the back of the iPhone packaging prior to purchase. This SIM card package works for all iPhone SKUs. When affixing the SIM card packaging, make sure the capacity badge is visible through the top, center cutout. The SIM card packaging must be in gray (100% Pantone 429c) and not in your brand color. Gray works best with both boxes (white and black.) Insert your carrier logo into the Carrier SIM Card area designated in the template. Your carrier logo can only appear in white. Insert this copy on the bottom of the SIM card package: Lift for important iPhone information.

Print Production Guidelines

Images/Mechanicals
The images provided from Apple are high resolution and are supplied as CMYK (also known as 4-color process) and RGB color files. CMYK files should be used for offset and digital printing. The RGB files should be used for any web-based and photographic executions (such as Durst Lambda, LightJet or Chromira). you have provided to the printer), colormatching (for spot colors) registration, trapping, and overall condition of the printed piece. The fine-tuning that occurs during the press check usually takes 1-2 hours.Press checks should be attended by a representative with a print production background who can communicate and direct a printer for the desired visual look of a printed piece. Once the color and content are approved on press, the final press sheet should be signed as a guide for the pressman to follow. You should also ask for a same as sheet to take with you for future reference or archiving purposes. Silk. Number of inks being used will depend on the piece, but in most cases you will need a printer that has a 6-color press (offset lithography). This press will print CMYK (4-color process) plus one PMS color (usually the gray PMS 429, and possibly one more spot color) and a satin aqueous coating on each side. The reason for a PMS color for the gray is that it is common to use this color for some of the smaller type. By printing the gray type as a PMS color, the type is more solid and the readability is greatly increased. Satin aqueous coating gives the piece a nice smooth finish that will resist fingerprints. Your print vendor should be instructed to print the materials at 175200 line screen. Easel Signs Preferred paper stock and method of production and finishing (as applicable): Digital-C print mounted to either black or white Sintra (6 mm thick or .25 inch thick). We typically prefer the white Sintra unless the imagery looks better on black (usually due to the background of the image being black). The prints have a luster lamination applied to the face that dulls the glossy look of the photographic paper. Please note that we have used other substrates (like GatorBoard) in the past, but have found such materials to dent and crush easily, requiring the easel signs to be replaced. Easel signs are printed digitally on a photographic output device (usually a Durst Lambda). These prints are also called C-Prints. This is an effective way to produce smaller quantities, and produces a poster that is better at resisting fading or rapid deterioration (which is important since these are at the front of the store and they get a lot of sun). Window Graphics Preferred paper stock and method of production and finishing (as applicable): 8 pt. Stoplight depending on the quantity needed to print, either litho or digital printing can be used. For lower quantities the preferred printing method is digital printing (screen printing is not recommended) using Durst Rho 900, VuTek QS 3200, or other large format printers. If you use digital printing, be sure to instruct the printer to use the highest-resolution setting on their printer. Banners Preferred paper stock and method of production and finishing (as applicable): 18 oz. Matte Vinyl. Preferred printing method is digital printing (screen printing is not recommended) using Durst Rho, VuTek QS 3200, or other large format printers. If you use digital printing, be sure to instruct the printer to use the highest-resolution setting on their printer. Pole pockets (if applicable) should be sewn or heat set. We would not recommend the use of grommets as a means of hanging the banner at its final destination.

General Guidelines for Printing

As a general rule, avoid any materials with a gloss finish. The Apple standard is to use either a silk or a matte type of finish for all materials, including paper, vinyl, plastics, etc. Always use the best quality grade of items when printing Apple support items. This includes T-shirts (100% cotton), paper, vinyl, plastic, etc. Your printer can give you options to choose from and will be happy to provide you with samples or guide your selection. GRACol 7 For CMYK printing (offset or digital), please only use printers who are G7 (GRACol 7) certified. G7 is a trademark process for the proof-to-print process and is based on principles of digital imaging, spectrophotometry, and computer-to-plate (CtP) technologies. This new methodology utilizes the existing ISO 12647 Standards as the basis for good printing. GRACoL 7 examines the rationale behind the new visual appearance-based GRACoL press and proofing system, gray balance characterization, and calibration methods. Press Checks Each piece being printed should be reviewed on press before the job is authorized to print as a full run. This is handled by attending a press check. This is the final opportunity to ensure that the piece is printing as desired, and it is the final check for color-balance (referencing the match prints

Collateral Material
Brochures Preferred paper stock and method of production and finishing (as applicable): 80# Utopia One X Silk Text, McCoy Silk, or comparable. Number of inks being used will depend on the piece, but there should be a satin aqueous coating on each side that is printed. The piece should be printed using offset lithography. The coating is usually done in-line, which means it is done at the same time as the printing (on the same machine). This will give the overall piece a nice finish and will help to prevent fingerprints from showing up on pieces that are being touched or handled. The coating also dulls the finish of the stock. Your print vendor should be instructed to print the materials at 175200 line screen with any offset printing. Any inserts for the brochures or rate cards should also be run on the same stock.
