ary 27 and runs through Friday, January 31st. During this week, when students come to their Spanish class, they will be visiting el mercado to spend the pesos they earn from our classroom incentive program, Pesos por participar. If you have stuff to contribute but havent had a chance to bring it in, we are still seeking donations of items for our market from small trinkets/toys that the children can purchase for themselves to larger toys/games/stuffed animals for donations to GOoDworks of Chapin. This year, our students will be making these donations in memory of LMES dear friend, Sue Madden, former director of GOoDworks. She truly had an awesomely loving and generous spirit! We are also seeking volunteers (knowledge of Spanish not needed) to be present to help out with our activities. Help is needed for all classes! If you can volunteer, please reply to Sra. Gonzlez (jgonzale@lexrich5.org). Be sure to indicate the time you would be able to help. If you can stay for more than one class, that would be awesome (our K and 1st classes especially need extra help)! Separate volunteers will be needed for Sra. Gonzlezs (blue) and Sra. Fultzs (red) classes since each homeroom will experience their own mercado.

Most of the 2d (flat) work will be hung in the hallway with a few works mounted in a glass display case in the conference room. This show will be on display from Monday Jan. 13 through Friday Jan. 31st. Check out the student pottery at the end of the blue hall. Classes with work on display include, 1-Antley, 2-Blalock and 3Castro. Way to go LMES artists!

Technology Showcase: Sneak Peek

Students are creating slide shows, videos, and collages on iPads about the content they are studying in class. Due in part to successful fundraising efforts last year, each grade level has an iPad cart to use with students. Teachers are choosing samples of the technology projects and posting them on our school web site. Some of the projects are already posted, and more projects will be completed for all grade levels in January. Take a sneak peek by following this link! http://www.lexrich5.org/LakeMurray.cfm? subpage=90168&adminActivate=1

Changes in Dismissal.
Please remember that when making changes in your childs dismissal, it is better to send a note in the morning or call the school office no later than 1:30pm. While sending an email may seem to be an efficient way to relay a message, this can become a problem if the internet is down or if the person you are emailing is not at school. It would also be helpful if changes in dismissal were not made several days in advance. These notes can be easily misplaced. Your help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Lake Murray Elementary 2014 Career Fair Thursday, January 30 7:30 - 10:15 am

Wanted:
Working parents & volunteers willing to share three hours of their time to excite children about their futures.
What do you have to do? Bring pictures, tools, or information about your career to share at an exhibit with our 3rd through 5th graders. Students will come by your exhibit and ask questions about your career. Why a career fair in elementary school? In anything, goals are important. While a childs career goals will change numerous times throughout his/her life, having something that youre looking forward to in the future keeps you motivated in your present. Also, its important for students to learn about the many career opportunities an dhow you can turn something thats fun into a lifelong job! Interested? E-mail Mrs. Sitsch at gsitsch lexrich5.org. Please ensure that you put Career Fair in the subject line. Or, call Mrs. Sitsch at 476-4605. Please contact her by January 16th.

Run Hard Columbia Kids Marathon

The Run Hard Kids Marathon is a 13-week endurance building running/walking program designed for kids, K5 - 8th grade. Kids will run the distance of a full marathon (26.2 miles) over the course of the 13-week program. To qualify for race day, kids must train for the last mile of their marathon by running a total of 25.2 miles in 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 3/4 mile or 1 mile increments between December 8, 2013 and March 7, 2014.

This is not a timed event and there are NO official winners.

Packet PickPick-up
All participants must pick up their race packet on Friday, March 7 between 12pm - 9pm at the Health & Fitness Expo or on Saturday from 5:30am - 7am. The Expo will be located at Clarion Hotel Downtown. There will be no race day registration.

Details
Start Time Start Location Finish Location 8 am Marathon mile 25 Marathon finish line

All runners receive a technical race shirt and all finishers receive a medal and finish line refreshments.

Training
Students will run with a parent and/or in their school's PE class, after school program or with their friends and family on their own. Each child will keep a log sheet to track their progress. Mileage is based on adult supervision and the honor system. As each child completes the final mile on the actual marathon course on Saturday, March 8, 2014. Your child can chart their miles in 0.25-mile increments and wont have to feel pressured to run a complete mile when they begin their training. However, if your child is training with their schools PE class they may structure it differently. Upon completion of 25.2 miles, each child must bring their completed log sheet to packet pick-up. This completed log sheet is required in order to receive your race packet and complete the final mile on Saturday, March 8, 2014.

Safety
We go to great measures to insure your child's safety. We appreciate everyone abiding by our rules to accomplish our mission. First, each child will receive a T-shirt that they must wear on race day. Your packet will also contain your child's race number that MUST be worn on the front of their shirt. Attached to the race number is a PARENT CLAIM TAG. You must detach this and keep it with you so that you may identify and claim your child after the race. No child will be allowed to leave their designated fenced area unless the parent/guardian has the matching number on their claim tag. No IDs will be accepted in place of the race number. You MUST have the matching race number! Second, we will have uniformed officials such as firemen, policeman, athletic teams and high school ROTC members running with the children. They will insure that the runners stay on the correct course while offering them encouragement to finish their marathon goal. This is also another reason your child must wear their designated race day T-shirt so our officials can identify them. With your help, we will make sure the kids have an enjoyable and safe experience!

Race Day
Kids seven and under MUST have a chaperon with them on the course. (Although, any age child can run with an adult if he/she chooses.) There is no charge for adult chaperones. One adult per child only. Schools with the highest student participation will receive a donation to its PE department in the amounts of: 1st Place: $600, 2nd Place: $300, 3rd Place: $150.

Shirts
Registration includes a high quality, moisture wicking, micro-fiber running shirt. All shirts are UNISEX. *Registration must be received on or before February 19, 2014 in order to guarantee a shirt and proper sizing.
