Unit Title: Senior Research Project Name: Ms. Morales
Content Area: English Grade Level: Twelve CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s): Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text, including determining where the text leaves matters uncertain. Integrate and evaluate multiple sources of information presented in different media or formats (e.g. visually, quantatively) as well as in words in order to address a question or solve a problem. Introduce precise knowledgeable claim (s), counterclaims, reasons, and evidence. Develop claim(s) and counterclaims fairly and thoroughly, supplying the most relevant evidence for each while pointing out the strengths and limitations of both in a manner that anticipates the audiences knowledge level, concerns, values, and possible biases.
Big Ideas: Research a topic that presents a problem that is relevant to you. Present a set of solutions that can be applied to help fix the problem you are doing your research on and provide evidence that shows that your solutions are plausible. Write a paper using evidence from outside sources that will strengthen your argument and support your claim.
Unit Goals and Objectives:
1. Students will demonstrate their ability to work independently to create a research paper using technology and outside sources to strengthen their argument. 2. Students will apply their writing skills and demonstrate their knowledge of conventional, standard English by writing a research paper. 3. Students will demonstrate their ability to use outside sources correctly and efficiently by citing sources and creating a works cited page for their research paper.
Unit Summary: This unit is designed to guide and assist students in the process of creating an individual and unique research project for their Senior portfolio. This unit will provide students with resources and guidelines that will help them be successful in the completion of their research project. This unit will focus on research topics that are of interest to students, sources that will help students with research, and strategies that will make this process a fun and enjoyable experience for students.
