Its Saturday Morning Live! The Area
X Celebration will feature the
amazing and
talented work of
Francesca
Amari.
Francesca will
be bringing her
popular show
You Make Me
Laugh: A Love
Song to Gilda
Radner to Shadowridge Country
Club in Vista on Saturday, March 8,
2014. Ms. Amari not only is a
performer, she is a teacher how
fitting. She works as an adjunct
professor at Aquinas College,
Western Michigan University, and
Grand Valley State University,
teaching Drama in Education and
Storytelling. Currently, Ms. Amari is a
Teaching Artist for the McCallum
2
Theatre Institute in Palm Springs. She
will be bringing her love of teaching,
song, and women
to the Area X
Celebration! We
cant wait to see
her!
Celebration Chairs
Lynette Lange and
Stephanie Hurst
have been working
tirelessly on every last detail for this
fantastic and inspiration event. The
Celebration will feature a delicious
breakfast buffet, silent auction,
opportunity baskets, as well as time to
visit with fellow sisters from Area X.
The Area X Celebration will also be
honoring Warriors of Cancer as well as
remembering those who fought the
tough battle and lost. Sisters are
asked to wear pink (breast cancer), teal
(ovarian cancer), or lavender (universal
cancer color) to the event in support of
womens health. Thank you Lynette
and Stephanie for their amazing work!
Its going to be a memorable event!

Thank you to my Beta Delta Sisters
for supporting my young friend, Fey,
last year in having a busy and fun-
filled summer. We are now applying
for camperships with the Girl Scouts,
the Y, the city of Encinitas, and San
Dieguito United Methodist Church for
this summer's activities. She would
like to attend two weeks at Camp
Winacka's horseback riding session.
She would like to be a Leader in
Training and a Counselor in Training
at local day camps because she
loves working with kids. And she
would like to attend the Sierra
2
Service Project work team on an
Indian reservation. There might
even be an opportunity to go to
church camp. It's very ambitious,
but she wants to keep busy, and
she loves to learn. If we get
scholarships, they usually only
cover about 75%, so we need to
come up with the rest. So I'm
thanking you in advance for your
generosity and support for this
worthy young woman!
Yours in sisterhood,
Randa Krakow

All About -- The Ghosts of Meeting Past and Meeting Future!
New Directory Editor Needed
All that is needed is basic word processing skills! A member is
needed to take over the yearly updating of the Beta Delta
Directory. Nancy Hair will continue doing the member pictures and
information pages, but someone is needed to complete the rest.
Nancy Hair is willing to offer support and assistance, if needed.
Please let our new president-elect, Sandi Hadder, know if you are
interested.

An exciting Spring Awaits!
Februarys gathering began with a
delicious Mexican buffet provided
by Team C, complete with musical
instruments and singing! The
program highlight was orientation
for our incoming members. It was
an inspiring reminder of why we
belong to this wonderful
organization, and all the
opportunities to commune with our
local sisters as well as sisters
from around the state, nation and
the world.
Linda Hosaka started the evening
off with a fun puzzle, which
focused on famous women and
their accomplishments. Members
2
shared their favorite memories
and events from DKG as
President Christina shared the
PowerPoint presentation about
the society. Members were once
again encouraged to attend the
Area Celebration and Chi State
Convention. All forms were
available at the meeting and
monies were collected for the
Area Celebration. (Beta Delta
has 25 reservations for the Area
Celebration!)
For the first time, we will have a
second February meeting! On
February 26 we will meet at King
Middle School in Oceanside for
our annual planning program.
3
Bring all your creativity and
ideas for our 2014-2015
meetings. There are so many
possibilities: community
awareness presentations, arts
and music, crafts,
exercise...bring all those ideas to
make next year the most fun
ever! Remember to bring $5 for
a salad and pizza supper!
The Pound in the Round winner
at the last meeting was Linda
Hosaka...a collection of soothing
teas was her special treat!
Donations of $106.00 have been
sent to the STARs
program. Donations at the next
meeting will go to Love on a
Leash. You have to play to win!
Time to Get Involved.
As we get ready to plan for 2014-2015, we are asking ALL members to take an active role in our chapter. It is
imperative that each of us takes on a responsibility in order to sustain our membership. If the same people
continuously are called upon to volunteer, eventually, they will tire, and ultimately take a backseat in our chapter.
We have a lot of talent! We are so fortunate to have so many active members. At our next meeting, please sign up
for a new committee. Many of our members have served on these committees for YEARSlike 5 or 10. Not cool.
We are all busy- but signing up for a committee doesnt mean you will have to do more- it will just be different. Our
new Executive Board is excited to support and develop our chapter. It takes ALL of us to make this beautiful chapter
run efficiently and make the greatest impacts on our schools, our communities, and ourselves. Thank you in
advance for your service and commitment to Beta Delta, Chi State, and DKG.

Gladys Schrock passed away on February 8,
2014. Her friends say that she may have been
95 years old but that hasnt been confirmed.
Gladys joined DKG in 1972. She served as
recording secretary, corresponding secretary,
and served on the program committee during
her tenure with Beta Delta Chapter. She taught
kindergarten and first grade for 30 years.
Gladys always had a smile on her face and a
quick wit to share with her fellow sisters. She
and her daughter, Joline, hosted many holiday
gatherings at Jolines home in Carlsbad, where
you could find Gladys sitting in a cozy recliner.
She will be terribly missed. We send our love and warm hugs to Joline and her
family.

Dear Members of Chi State,
You are invited to participate in the pilot testing of the new Teachers Helping Another Teacher (THAT) reporting system which allows
individual members of the Society to report their volunteer hours directly to Chi State Early Career Educators (ECE) Committee through
a quick four step online process!
1. The electronic link for the form is e-mailed to every single member in a chapter. The recipient opens her e-mail and clicks on the
link.
2. The link opens a form in an internet browser.
3. The individual volunteer member enters the information in the simplified fields.
4. The members clicks the "Send" button on the bottom of the form.
THAT's it! It's done!
The pilot testing of the system is scheduled until March 15, 2014. This will allow the ECE Committee to monitor the data entry process
and address any tech glitches. Members are encouraged to e-mail ECE at chistateece@gmail.com with their feedback. All data
entered during the pilot process is for testing the system and will not be considered as part of the chapter's biannual submission of
hours.
It is recommended that in chapters where majority of members do not have access to a computer or the internet, a laptop/ipad station
be setup at a chapter meeting where these members can bring their data on a piece of paper, sit at the computer, complete the form
(with help if needed) and submit right there.
At the end of this pilot testing, anticipating no technical issues, a new electronic link will be shared with members of Chi State for the
official reporting of the volunteer hours for the spring collection (due April 1).
To participate in the pilot, use this address:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1qO3g8rSUtYoN01Q9ptaS4uJAxA3GbCZ1kp4tuljfs20/viewform
Thank you for your support.
We would love to hear from you regarding this pilot. Please e-mail us at chistateece@gmail.com
Try out the new THAT Reporting System Fancy!
