Task 1a ANALYSE THE FRONT COVER
The header summarises the main artist that will feature in
the magazine. As the genre of the magazine is associated with rock, these would normally be rock bands. However, Dizzee Rascal goes against this convention broadening the audience. The masthead NME clearly stands out at the top of the page- it takes up about a tenth of the magazine layout. The font used is a dramatic font style (from the Dafont site). It uses an abbreviation of the magazine simplifying it for the audience. The rule of thirds rule has been used to add interest to the target audience. The cover/main image dominates the page making it look fuller and busier reflecting the genre and unconventional audience. The main sell line anchors the main image so that the right things are seen by the audience (Dizzee Rascal). The font is big and bold making it sound out. Im spreading joy around the world, man! The main image is a long-shot of the artist (model) Dizzee Rascal but him crouching down clearly labelled with the large caption placed in the middle of the page. It uses direct mode of address with a happy face, pointing to the audience directly making them feel like it was made especially for them. His arms are coming out creating a grabbing/hugging effect which connotes with happiness. Barcode, price and data/issue number are all vital elements of a magazine. Its at the bottom of the page, making it out the way and not too visible. 16 page Autumn tour special is inserted above the magazine as a banner telling the audience exactly what is expected in the magazine. The footer of the page is a list of Rock bands (relating to the genre rock). This broadens the audience as it attracts audiences who favourite the artists, it also shows theres a lot more going on in the magazine. Analyse The puff has been used on the left third of the magazine, to draw attention to the news making it stand out. It also creates a bit of edge to make the magazine unique. The top of the magazine also sits another list of artists which feature in the magazine. The outfit the model is wearing is quite casual casual and reflects the magazine (mise-en-scene). He is wearing a sleeveless top which shows off his tattoo, this connotes he is rebellious. Colour scheme used is mainly red, white and black. These are all bold colours making it stand out. The white font are all in white font, which is also the colour of his vest, this links everything together.
