Detailed class analysis of music magazine

NME

Masthead- The masthead for NME magazine

is in big bold letters which stand out and
immediately catch the target audiences
attention to the magazine. The masthead is
the first thing we see and its presenting itself
to the target audience.

Model/group- The model of this magazine

is Dizzie Rascal, he is a well known rap
singer and therefore this tells the target
audience what genre and content will be
inside the magazine. He takes up most of the
page (A Long Shot is used to capture all of
his body and clothing.) and is the centre of
attention. From this I can guess that the
majority of content inside the magazine will
be about Dizzie.

Strapline- NME music magazine doesnt

have a strapline but other magazines
probably would. This would be a slogan or a
catchy phrase.

Mode of Address- The magazine communicates with

the target audience by using a young male model who is
currently popular. By using a well known artist for the
main image it means that the target audience is more
likely to read the magazine and then buy more editions of
the magazine if it features artists they like .

Mise-en-scene- The whole front cover is

pleasing to the eye as the colour scheme
links together and the text isn't too close
together so it is eye catching and attracts
the target audience.

Denotation- The literal meaning of the

quote Im spreading joy around the world,
man! would be that Dizzie is spreading
happy feelings all over the world.
Connotation- The hidden meaning of this
quote would be that he is creating a sense of
joy in quite a few different countries.
Genre- The genre of this music magazine
would be rock / rap music. I know this
because firstly, the main image is of a
famous rapper which immediately tells us
the genre. Secondly, the cover lines show a
list of artists which confirms that the
magazine features some rock music.
Rule of Thirds- Dizzies head has been
placed into the main hotspot of the
magazine, this catches the target audiences
attention and shows that he is the main focus
of the magazine.

Barcode- The barcode is placed in the bottom

right corner of the magazine, this is a good
place to put it as it wont distract the target
audiences attention away from the front cover

Niche Market- A small target

audience for this magazine would
be young adults as they listen to
the music featured in the
magazine however they are only
the niche market as the wider
audience would be people in
their 30s.
