Ad
the image that I had scanned and played around with the size
on the paper. I then began choosing colors from the photo that I
thought worked well together. I knew what I wanted my title to say
and had a list of the information I wanted included in the ad, so I
began adding text boxes with the title, date-time-place, and the
list of vendors. Once I had the basic information in my document,
I began moving things around to see what looked good visually. I
really liked the vertical purple line in the image and wanted that to
be off-centered in the ad so I deliberately placed the photo on the
left. I decided to use a purple block behind the text that would be
perpendicular to the line in the image. Then, I began creating boxes
with color that would effectively contain the information I wanted
included in the ad. Finally, I changed the colors of the fonts to make
them stand out on the page.

design. Then, using Illustrator, I began adding the text, word by word,
so that the words of the scripture would not only be readable in the
design, but also attractive to look at from a distance. I created all of
the words in white at first, and later added some color to a few select
words to add emphasis and contrast. Once I had laid out all of the
words in the design, I added the textured background and finished it
off with a subtle textured overlay to unify the design.
Brochure
Process: Using Illustrator, I first designed the logo using the colors red, lime,
teal and brown. After selecting four appropriate images that I would use in
my design, I used Photoshop to edit them and adjust their colors so that they
would coordinate with the color scheme I had chosen. I clipped the Santa
image and adjusted the vibrancy so that it would fit in with the rest of the
design. Then, I placed each image in their respective spots on the pages.
Since I wanted to create a retro-looking brochure, I added repeating bold,
solid-filled triangular shapes to each page. To add some contrast, I used
several not-so-perfect circles to my pages to break up the strong diagonal
lines. Once I had my elements where I wanted them, I added my text. Using
the paragraph styling tool and the text wrapping tool, I manipulated the text
so that it would flow nicely with the images and elements I had used. I also
incorporated some retro stars in my design that I had created for my logo.
Finally, I used the effects feature and added a light drop shadow to the
Santa image, which added some depth.

wanted to use a paint brush in one of the logos. So, I used the pen
tool to draw some simple lines for the brush and then filled in the
brush portion with the color red. I wanted the word Art to stand
out so I chose a font that would make it look like that word was
painted in red by the brush. For the middle logo, I used the rounded
rectangle tool to create a blue background. Then, I added the
white text and arranged it so that each of the letters ran off the
edge of the rectangle. For the bottom logo,

Design

Process: With the idea of using this time quote in mind, I gathered
some props and set up my photo shoot. I knew that I wanted to use an
analogous color scheme with warm colors and create an earthy feel
for my final design, so I decided to incorporate a bamboo mat into my
photo. I also selected materials made of wood and metal to further
complement my intended theme and message. Using my Canon
camera, I took a variety of shots in different lighting and with different
arrangements, trying to capture the clock in the foreground, with some
other elements in the background. After taking over one hundred
photos, I settled on one final image because I liked the sharp contrast
of the clock in the foreground compared with the blurred elements
in the background. Using Photoshop, I edited the photo by adjusting
the levels, the vibrance and the colors so that the final image had a
brightness to it. Then, I used the sharpening tool to accentuate the X
in the clock. I knew I wanted to mirror the ampersand in the photo
with a large, bold ampersand in the text, so I found an ampersand that
looked similar to the metal ampersand in the background. And, when
taking the photo, I intentionally placed the hands of the clock so that
they would serve as arrows, directing the viewers eyes to the important
pieces of the design. Finally, I added some diagonal shapes and the
text with a bold, red ampersand at the bottom of the design.

folder for my project, I used Notepad++ to create my web page. The first step
was to mark up all of my content in HTML and insert my logo. Then, I attached
a pre-made CSS document and linked it to my HTML. Using Photoshop, I sampled the colors in my logo so that I could recreate them on my web page.
Once I had the basics of the page written up and in the order that I wanted
them, I made some edits to my CSS document. I changed the fonts, using a
simple sans-serif font for the title and one of the headings; I used a simple serif
font for the rest of the text. Also, because the color red I had used in my logo
accentuates the word Art, I wanted to employ the same method in my text
by making my main points bold and set them to the color red. I also italicized
my blog link at the bottom of the page. Finally, I adjusted the padding on
the title block and around my logo and The Design Process header to give
them adequate space and to set them apart from the other text.
