INFORMATION FOR ANNUAL REPORT 2012-13
I. Executive Summary of work done (01.04.2012 to 31.03.2013)
The College of Fishery Science, Muthukur started functioning from 1st September 1992
in the premises of Agricultural Research Station, Nellore and the classes commenced on 6 th
December, 1992. The College was shifted on 1 st November 1994 to its own 16-acers campus
located at Muthukur Mandal Headquarters, along the Nellore-Krishnapatnam Port Road. The
College Campus comprises of College Main Building (Academic Block), Boys Hostel, Girls
Hostel, Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff Quarters, a Swimming Pool Complex, Play Grounds,
Wet Lab, RCC Nurseries and one 45 acers instructional Fresh Water Fish Farm at Eguvamitta
(Epur).
The College has been accredited by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR),
New Delhi, with effect from 14.08.2001 and has validity up to 16.11.2013.
During the year 2012-13, a number of steps were taken for providing quality education to
the students. The basic amenities for students residing in both the Girls and Boys Hostels were
improved significantly. The students have performed well in sports, games, literary and academic
activities. The college has been in the forefront in organizing guest lectures by eminent Scientists
and educationists for the benefit of the students and staff.
As a part of extension activities, two training programme and one workshop was
organized for the benefit of fisheries sector; besides publication of several extension
articles/leaflets and participating in TV programmes. The NSS unit of the College has organized
one NSS Special Camp; besides a number of regular camps. During the year under report, the
college campus was declared as RAGGING FREE campus. Four Teachers of the college
received Best Teacher/Scientist and other awards at both National & State Level.

Student Amenities & Activities


1. A separate SC/ST Scholarship Cell was established in the College with a
Computer, Printer, Scanner and other Accessories.
2. Student Chairs with desk lets & LCD Projectors were purchase for the Four (4)
New Model Class Rooms of the College.
3. New Chest Cooler & R.O. System was provided to Hostel & College.
4. A separate SC/ST Scholarship cell was established in the College Main Building
during the month of December, 2011.
5. Library Books and Infrastructure worth Rs, 50,000/- were made available for the
SC/ST Students of the College during the year 2012.
6. Three (3) boys and one (1) girls from College of Fishery Science have participated
in the All India Inter Agriculture Universities Sports & Games Meet 2012-13, held
at Akola, Maharastra.

c) NCC/NSS activities:
CCA-221 and CCA-311 courses have been offered and NSS volunteers were given
sufficient training as envisaged during the course.

d) Library:
Library is provided with ERNET, V-SAT Internet Facilities along with Computer
Systems, Scanners & Printers. Further all the Systems available in the Library are
connected through LAN and facility of accessing on-line Journals offered by CERA
is also provided.

III. Research:
Externally Funded Projects:
1) NAIP on A value chain in production and utilization of Indian Major Carps and
prawn from Aquaculture systems is under operation from 2008-09 onwards and is
continued during fifth year 2012-13. It is being operated both in the Departments of Fish
Processing Technology and DAAH. SVVU is one of the consortium partners with
KVAFSU, Bidar as the lead centre.
2) A National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases was
proposed during the year with Department of Aquatic Animal Health , C.F.Sc, Muthukur
and FRS, Undi as SVVU partners. The project is for five years 2012-13 to 2017-18. The
National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad. Funded the project and being
implemented by the National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, ICAR, Luknow with 24
consortium partners. The five year budget allotted to SVVU, Tirupati has been Rupees
76.45 lakh.
