Reporting the Results:

1. Calculate the specimen density and fill out each column of the given table.
2. Calculate the stresses from the proving ring and applied loads, apply appropriate area
correction where necessary.
3. Plot the shear stress versus shear strain and discuss your understanding of the peak of the
graphs with respect to applied normal stress.
4. Plot normal displacement versus shear displacement and discuss the volume change
behaviour of the tested soil.
5. Using the maximum values of shear stress (as plotted in 3), plot a graph of shear stress
versus normal stress (of tests 1, 2 and 3) and determine the shear strength parameters c'
and (note that, as the test is conducted on clean sand, it is expected that no cohesion will
be obtained and thus c' = 0).
6. Determine the sand type and discuss its characteristics.
