Application guidelines 2015-2016


Application procedures
Erasmus period of
studies

Students selected for an Erasmus period of studies


at the Faculty of Sciences must submit an online
application
form
available
at
http://www.fc.ul.pt/node/2691
A password will be requested - the password can
be given by your home International Office or
directly to you through the Faculty of Sciences
Mobility Office after your home University informs
us about your selection.

Erasmus
placement

If you are interested in doing an Erasmus placement


/project in a research group of the Faculty of
Sciences, you should do the following:
1. Find a Research Centre or Group in which you
are interested.

Application deadlines

Applications should be sent by post or e-mail to the


International/ Mobility Office of the Faculty of
Sciences of the University of Lisbon, before the
following deadlines:
1st Semester : 30 June 2015
2nd Semester : 31 October 2015

You should contact the Faculty of Sciences


International/Mobility Office already with the official
acceptance from a supervisor and research centre
at least two months before the actual start of your
Erasmus placement.

2. Contact directly the Centre and ask for an


official acceptance.
3. If you have been accepted by the Research
Centre, then contact the Mobility Office informing
us of the name of the supervisor and Centre.

Academic
calendar

The academic year is divided into two semesters:


Autumn Semester/1st Semester:
Starts during the 2nd or 3rd week of September and ends in January/beginning of February including the
examination period.
Spring Semester / 2nd Semester:
Starts during the 2nd or 3rd week of February and ends in the beginning of July including the examination
period.
Ordinary courses run for 13-15 weeks, each semester.
First day of classes of the academic year 2014-2015: 8th September 2014 (For reference).

Language requirements

Classes are lectured in Portuguese. However, some Master level courses might be
lectured in English if the class has foreign students and the Professor agrees to
lecture in English. Please check the language requirements of each department
as you should pay attention to the language of instruction.
So, a reasonable knowledge in Portuguese is therefore essential, except for those
who are coming for a training period or research project.
A presentation of a certificate showing proficiency in Portuguese or in English is
compulsory. B1 level, according to CEFR levels, is the minimum required for the
acceptance of your application.

Portuguese language courses

The University of Lisbon organizes Portuguese Language Courses especially for


Erasmus Students in the beginning of each semester.
Courses take place at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon.

Grading System

The Portuguese grading scale goes from 0 to 20 (fail = 9/20)

Finding accommodation
through the Faculty of Sciences

Erasmus students have the possibility to stay at the University of Lisbon Residences
for students.
However, due to the very limited number of places for exchange students it is not
possible to guarantee accommodation for everyone.
The International/Mobility Office is responsible for managing the reservations
directly with the Accommodation Services of the University of Lisbon according
to the arrival date of complete applications at our Office, including the
accommodation form (available at http://www.fc.ul.pt/node/9024)

Finding private accommodation

The International/Mobility Office does not arrange or make reservations for


private accommodation.
