FELLOWSHIPS/SCHOLARSHIPS/STUDENTSHIPS/
STIPENDS AND LOANS AVAILABLE TO THE STUDENTS OF
THE ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERSITY
General Conditions
1. All Fellowships and Studentships shall be credited to the Students account from where
awardees will be allowed to withdraw their credited balance according to rules (except for
Ph.D., foreign students, backward class and scheduled caste students).
2. Research students getting Fellowships or Research Scholarships shall cease to get the same if
they are appointed teachers in the University or its maintained institutions.
3. All Scholarships shall be tenable for the same number of the months for which tuition fee is
charged unless otherwise provided in these Regulations, provided always that 75% of
Scholarships of any description open to male candidates below the academic status of Master,
shall only be held by the students residing in the Halls of the University.
4. Scholarships which remain vacant under any particular category may be awarded to a student in
any other category.
5. Application for the Studentships and Scholarships other than Fellowships and Research
Scholarships must be submitted on the prescribed form to the Dean Students Welfare, by
September 15, through the Provost and/or the Chairman of the Department and Dean of the
Faculty concerned.
6. No student shall be awarded the University Merit Scholarship and the General Merit
Scholarship at the same time.
(i)
Unless expressly provided for in these Regulations or in the terms of some endowment, a
student shall not be awarded two Scholarships tenable during the same period.
(ii)
A merit-cum-means deserving student may be allowed to draw more than one Scholarship
tenable during the academic session provided that the total amount of award does not
exceed Rs.2,000/- per annum and that other conditions of the Scholarship awarded by the
outside agencies are also fulfilled. In case of award of University Scholarship, fee
concession (full or half freeship), may be ignored provided the total amount does not
exceed Rs.2,000/- per annum.
7. The following are the rules for the award of merit Scholarship in Persian, Arabic and Sanskrit:

(iii) Those who are awarded the Scholarship of B.A. (Hons.) during first year shall receive the
Scholarship for the entire course, provided they secure at least second division marks in
the subject at the end of each year.
(iv) Those who get Scholarship in M.A. during the first year will get it for two years, provided
they secure at least second division marks in the subject at the end of each year.
(v) If a Scholarship falls vacant in B.A. (Hons.) after first year, a test shall be held. If there is
a vacancy in B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. after second and first year, respectively, the
Scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of marks obtained in the Examinations just
preceding.
(vi) Half of the Scholarships will go to the Womens College at the Undergraduate level.
8. The term of all the Merit Scholarships based on Competitive test, and University Examination
Results in the Faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Science, Life Sciences and Law shall initially
be for 11 months. If the Scholarship holder fails in the Examination or indulges in misconduct,
the Scholarship shall not be continued in subsequent years. The Scholarship falling vacant on
this account will be awarded to the toppers of the respective Examinations, in order of merit.
The Scholarships in Faculty of Medicine shall be tenable for 18 months instead of 11 months.
U.G.C. Junior Research Fellowship such as Fellowship on any given time basis (in the
subject concerned as also Fellowship in the concerned Department available in any project like
Centre of Advanced Study, Department of Special Assistance, Departmental Research Support,
Research Project, etc.) will be awarded to those who have qualified the National Eligibility Test.
The value of Fellowship in the case of candidates qualifying in the National Eligibility Test and
registered for a research degree in an approved institution will be Rs.8,000/- p.m. as JRF. The
Fellowship will be raised to Rs.9,000/- p.m. as SRF, after rigorous evaluation of the work of the
scholar, on completion of period of two years. For JRF, the contingency grant is Rs.12,000/- per
annum in Science programmes and Rs.10,000/- per annum in Humanities and Social Sciences. For
SRF, the contingency grant is Rs.25,000/- per annum in Science programmes and Rs.20,000/- per
annum in Humanities and Social Sciences

Rs.1,000/- p.m. for first two years and Rs.1,150/- p.m. thereafter.

The Fellowship shall terminate on completion of viva-voce for a Ph.D. degree or completion
of 5 years from the date of registration for M.Phil./Ph.D., whichever is earlier.
(c)
University Fellowships in each Department in the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences of
Rs.1,000/- p.m. awarded to a Ph.D. candidate holding a First Division Masters degree,
tenable for two years in the first instance but may be extended for another year.
(d)
One University Fellowship in the Centre of Strategic Studies in the Faculty of Social
Sciences of Rs.1,000/- p.m., tenable for two years in the first instance and extendable for
another year.

Two University Fellowships in Law of Rs.1,000/- p.m. each awarded to Ph.D. candidates
holding a First or Second Division L.L.M. degree, tenable for two years in the first instance
but may be extended for another year.

One University Research Scholarship of Rs.1,000/- p.m. for each subject in the Faculties of
Arts and Social Sciences awarded to Ph.D. candidate holding a First or Second division
M.A. degree, tenable for two years in the first instance but may be extended for another
year.
(j)
One Departmental Research Scholarship in the Centre of Strategic Studies in the Faculty of
Social Science of Rs.1,000/- p.m., tenable for two years in the first instance but may be
extended for another year.
(k)
One University Research Scholarship of Rs.1,000/- p.m. for each subject in the Faculty of
Science, awarded to Ph.D. candidates holding a First or Second division M.Sc. degree,
tenable for two years in the first instance but may be extended for another year.

One Research Scholarship of Rs.600/- p.m., tenable for the duration of the course, in each
language namely, Bengali, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu and Tamil (Total 5).
Applications for the Scholarships should be submitted to the Dean of the Faculty concerned.
The above Fellowships are awarded by the CASR of the Faculty concerned.
RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS IN MEDIVEAL INDIAN HISTORY
(a)
Two Sr. Research Fellowships of Rs.500/- p.m. plus Rs.1,000/- p. a. for contingency,
tenable for two years but may be extended for another year.

To students passing the Competitive Admission Test and joining the First Year M.B.B.S.
class, four Scholarships, one of Rs.120/- p.m. and the rest of Rs.90/- per month, are awarded,
in order of merit, determined in selection.

Four Scholarships, one of Rs.120/- p.m. and the rest of Rs.90/- per month, are awarded, in
order of merit, to students passing the First Year Examination and joining the Second year

student of M.B.B.S. II Prof. of the value of Rs.1000/-per month,tenable for 10 months is to be
awarded to the financial deserving student, who has passed First Proffessional Examination
with highest aggregate marks,

Dr. Irtaza and Shana Siddique Scholarship in Nursing:One Scholarship of Rs.300/- per month tenable for ten months per year to be awarded to a
Muslim student securing highest marks in the First year examination of the Diploma in
General Nursing and Midwifery course at AMU, Aligarh. The scholarship will be continued
till completion of the course during the next 2.5 years provided the student maintains good
progress in studies. After the scholarship becomes vacant, it will be awarded in the same
manner to a new student from academic session starting after the scholarship becomes vacant.

Dr. Irtaza and Shana Siddique Scholarship in Medicine and Surgery:One Scholarship of Rs.500/- per month tenable for ten months to be awarded to a Muslim
student securing highest marks at the MBBS entrance test of AMU, Aligarh and joins the said
course at AMU, Aligarh. The scholarship will be payable to such students for ten months
only. Thereafter, it will be awarded to a new student in the same manner, from the next
academic session.
Five University Merit Scholarships of Rs.90/- p.m. and five of Rs.75/- p.m., are awarded to
students of Kamil-E-Tib-E-Jarahat BUMS class (all 5 years), on the basis of Admission Test
to the students of the First Year B.U.M.S., and on the basis of Examination result for the
remaining classes, tenable for 11 months.

To be awarded to deserving students of Kamil-E-Tib-O-Jarahat (B.U.M.S.) class out of the
profit of A.K. Tibbiya College Dawakhana, A.M.U., Aligarh.

Postgraduate stipend of the value of Rs.2,630/- p.m. plus allowances for the First Year and
Rs.2,705/- p.m. plus allowances for the Second Year and Rs.2,780/- p.m. plus allowances for

execution of a bond.

Rs.1,00,000/- given by Shri Krishna Murari Gupta, shall be awarded to one student each
studying in First, Second, Third & Fourth Year B.Tech. (Computer Engineering). The
Scholarship shall be awarded to students without consideration of religion, cast, creed sex or
any other such aspects. The scholarship shall be awarded on the consideration of
merit-cum-financial need basis. The students shall be selected for the award in the beginning
of the session and the award list shall be sent to the donor and also to the mother of Captain
Haneefuddin.

Chairman of the Department /D.S.W. shall communicate the donor on his address each year
the name of the awardee alongwith the marks obtained by him in previous year.

selection are awarded to students of First Year Diploma in Engineering.

this University, and doing M.Com. at this University. The Scholarships are tenable for 22
months.

Three Scholarships each of the value of Rs.150/- p.m., tenable for 22 months, to be awarded
to the students of M.Com. on the basis of a Competitive Test.

Two Scholarships, one each in Previous and Final Year of M.A./M.Sc./M.Com. of the value
of Rs.300/- p.m. each, tenable for 10 months, shall be awarded to the most brilliant student
out of the interest on donation of Rs.25,000/- given by Mr. Mahmoodur Rahman, Ex-V.C.,
A.M.U., by a Committee which will examine the merit on the basis of marks secured by the
applicants in the respective degree courses.
UNDERGRADUATE MERIT SCHOLARSHIP

Three Scholarships, two of Rs.75/- one of Rs.60/- p.m., are to be awarded to students
standing First, Second and Third in the S.S.S.C. Examination in Commerce of A.M.U. and
joining B.Com. (Hons.) course, tenable for the duration of the course.

B. Com., tenable for 33 months, to be awarded on the basis of a Competitive Test.

POSTGRADUATE MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
1.
Three University Merit Scholarships of Rs.90/-, 75/- and 60/- p.m. each to be awarded to
students standing First, Second and Third, in order of merit, at the L.L.B. Examination of
this University and joining L.L.M. Class of this University. The Scholarships shall be
tenable for 22 months.
2.
Two General Merit Scholarships of Rs.150/- p.m. each, tenable for 22 months, to be
awarded to students joining L.L.M. Class who have secured First Division in L.L.B.
Examination.
3.
A Silver Medal will be awarded to a student who secures the highest marks in
Mohammedan Law at the Bachelor of Law Examination.
4.
Five Scholarships each of the value of Rs.90/- p.m., tenable for 33 months, to be awarded to
students joining L.L.B. Class with brilliant academic record.

Science to be awarded on the basis of a Competitive Test, tenable for 22 months.

Scholarships of the value of Rs.400/- p.m. may be provided to such students in only Final
Year of M.C.A., who have passed the Second Year Examination with at least 60% marks in
the first attempt, subject to a maximum of 30 students.

the students joining Geohydrology on securing 60% marks in the Qualifying Examination.

There is a provision of one scholarship entitled Mrs. Mukhtar Ahmad Memorial Merit
Scholarship in Geography for a female student, to be awarded to a student of
M.A./M.Sc.(F) in Geography, who has secured first division in aggregate in the
M.A./M.Sc.(P), @Rs.500/- per moths, tenable for 10 months out of the interest earned on
investment of Rs.1,25,000/-.

M.Sc. Final (Biochemistry) who has passed the M.Sc. Previous with First Division marks,
provided that the income of her parent/guardian does not exceed Rs.1,500/- p.m. and that the
awardee is not getting any other University Scholarship.
