d. 25 Mar. 1671 Château Richer
Marin and Perrine arrived in New France as part of the "Percherone Immigration", a group of families and
some single men from the region of Perche in the Province of Normandy who came over in 1634 to
colonize Beauport, a seigneurie granted to Robert Giffard, physician to the colony. Marin and his family
and his cousin Gaspard Boucher, came on the "St. Jehan" under Capt. Pierre Nesle, landed at Tadoussac on
31 May and arrived in Québec on 4 June 1634. The colonists lived temporarily in the Habitation (Fort St.
Louis) which was the ford and residence built by Samuel de Champlain in 1608 in Québec before moving
down river to Beauport.
Prior to leaving for New France, Marin sold his house to Jean Guyon who himself emigrated to New
France in 1634.
The Commandant of Trois Rivières, Marc Antoine Bras de Fer de Châteaufort assumed the duties of
interim governor after the death of Samuel de Champlain. He presided at the reading of Champlain's will in
which is stated: "I give to Marin, mason, living near the house of the Recollet Fathers, the last suit that I
had made from material which I got at the store".
On 24 Aug. 1638 Marin gave testimony on the circumstances of the voyage of Gaspard Boucher "his
relative" (probably his cousin, NOT his brother) who also arrived in 1634. Marin first worked a piece of
land that the Recollets had abandoned in 1629 following the surrender of Québec to the Kirke brothers.
Later, he took a farm with his brother-in-law Thomas Hayot on land of the Jesuits at Beauport. On 11 June
1648 the Jesuit Journal reports that the two farmers separated with Hayot keeping the farm and Marin
taking a farm next to that of Olivier Tardif.
Marin and his family then moved to the Beaupré coast and he sold his former farm of 3 arpents in frontage
on the St. Charles River "from the stream which separates the cleared field of the Reverend Fathers
Recollets from the deserted property formerly of Jacques Caumont". Marin claimed to have received this
land from the Company of New France but the Recollets claimed it as belonging to them when they
returned to Canada in 1670.
On 6 Mar. 1656 Marin signed a note for 176 livres for the Fabrique de Québec, an old debt contracted from
the Compagnie des Habitants. Marin gave 1 1/2 arpents in frontage to his son-in-law, Louis Houde, which
was returned to Marin on 13 Sept. 1655. He gave 2 arpents to his son-in-law Jean Plante on 15 Apr. 1656
for which he received a receipt on 7 Feb. 1659. He increased this by 8 perches on 8 July and the right of
way on 27 Sept. 1668. He gave 2 arpents to his son, Jean Galleran on 30 Apr. 1656 and added an additional
7 1/2 perches on 15 Dec. 1662. He made a similar gift to his son Guillaume on 29 July 1670. At the 1667
census, Marin Boucher of Coste de Beaupré (Château Richer) stated he was age 80, Perrine Malet, his wife,
age 63, a child Guillaume, age 20, and had 8 head of cattle and 20 arpents under cultivation.

His epitaph is given in the registry of Château Richer: "In the year of Our Lord Jesus Christ 1671, on the
29th of March died Marin Boucher after having lived as a good Christian and received the Holy sacrements
of eucharist, penance and the last rights of extreme unction, was buried in the cemetery of Château Richer
by Monsieur Morel accompanied by the Reverend Father Nouvelle and by me doing priestly functions for
them on the coast of Beaupré." Signed F. Fillion, missionary priest.
In 1681 Perrine Mallet was listed in the census along with Antoine Voilon, a tailor, who was in her employ.
Marin and Perinne are commemorated with the other early pioneers on a plaque in Québec City.
Marin and his family are one of the most prolific ancestors of French Canada with an estimated 350,000
descendants today.

In 1666 Jean Galeran, Pierre Boucher, Marie Boucher and Marie LeClerc were living in Beaupré and he
was listed as being a mason. By 1681 he was living at Bouteillerie and owned two guns, 15 head of cattle
and 6 arpents of land and was a wheelwright.
Jean Galeran moved to the South Shore where he was a pioneer of the town of Rivière-Ouelle. The town
was attacked during King William's War by a party led by Sir William Phipps in Oct. 1690 and Jean
Galleran was among the 39 "Heros of Rivière-Ouelle" who defended the town. Phipps and his troops had
been pillaging along the St. Lawrence coast on their way to lay siege to Québec city. He was repulsed by
the ambush at Rivière-Ouelle and was later unsuccessful in his attack on Québec.

The marriage record for Sauveur and Marguérite has not been found. Fortunately, "Maggie" gave her
birthdate as May 1818 in the 1900 census. A Marguérite Coté, daughter of Gabriel Coté and Sophie
Gautron was baptized that month in St. Pierre and is undoubtedly our Marguérite.
"Sover Bushey" is listed in the 1851 Census for Compton, Sherbrooke Co. as being a blacksmith, age 39,
along with his wife Margt. age 34, Daniel age 14, Oliver age 12, Mary age 10, Valleur age 9, Delia age 7,
Mary age 5, Zelia age 3 and Alice age 1. All were born in Canada. Their house was listed as being a log
home, one story with a blacksmith shop on the property. The Agricultural Census did not list the range and
lot number, however, Sover was among the folks living in Range 7, around lots 7 and 8. The Bouchers had
one horse, 7 sheep, and 3 pigs and were not cultivating any land.(1)

In the 1860 Census Savor Bushey, age 47, blacksmith, is listed along with his family.(2) In the 1870 census
he is listed as Sarver Bushey, age 57, blacksmith.(3) In the 1880 census Sover Bushey, age 67, blacksmith,
was living with the same family at 121 Elmer St. His son William was a shoe shop worker and his son
Frank was a barber. William's wife and two children were also living there.(4) Due to the information given
in the Census reports and in William's naturalization records it appears that they emigrated from Canada in
Aug. 1855.
Server/Seaver Bushey is listed in the 1870 and 1875 directories for Biddeford as a blacksmith with his shop
being at 17 Alfred St. and his house at 4 or 9 Green St.(5)
Maggie Boucher, widow, is listed in the 1900 census for Biddeford and was living on Elm St. with her son-
in-law Jos. Martin, her birth was given as May 1818. She was living in a rented home, had immigrated in
1855, was illiterate, and she could speak English.(10)
