Understanding food and ea/ng as a social

construct and a contextual experience already
opens up new avenues for food cri/cism. But
the real game-changer might emerge when
we extend the idea of interconnectedness to
the hidden structures behind the subjec/ve
sensory and cultured aesthe/c experiences of
ea/ng. Complex systems of natural,
technological, societal, economic and poli/cal
processes directly shape what goes on our
place. It is this camouaged infrastructure
and its dynamics we should increasingly
explore and expose to cri/cism, because this
is where the opportunity lies to make food
beDer. [] We need to put greater value
on where food is produced and how it aects
us aJer it has been consumed. This means we
must examine the transparency
and accountability of the food industry, think
about what makes ethical and ecologically
sound food systems, and embrace healthier
food for individuals and communi/es alike.
