Equivalent SAE ISO OIL

The document provides information about AGMA viscosity numbers, which is a numbering system established by the American Gear Manufacturers Association to define the viscosity requirements for gear oils in various gearbox applications. It includes a chart that shows the viscosity ranges in centistokes at 40°C that correspond to each AGMA lubricant number and approximate equivalent ISO grades. The document also includes a conversion chart that allows translating between the AGMA, ISO, and Saybolt viscosity scales.

Guide to Oils and Greases

AGMA VISCOSITY NUMBERS

Viscosity Equivalents

The American Gear Manufacturers Association

(AGMA) has set up a numbering system to define
gear oil viscosities required for various gear boxes
and applications. These AGMA Lubricant Numbers
are normally stamped on the manufacturers metal
name plate.

So there are three systems of viscosity measurement.

However, all is not lost. The next chart shows how you
convert from one grade to another.
