PGPEX - IIM Calcutta's one year full-time residential general management
program for executives gives mid-career professionals the ideal platform to
augment their existing skill sets as they endeavor to armor themselves for
senior and top management roles in the industry. The program, since its
inception in 2007, has spawned alumni who have demonstrated excellence
in the leadership positions that they have occupied in their organisation. The
PGPEX Class of 2016 comprises an eclectic mix of youth and experience. The
batch of 54 brings together nearly 9 years of average work experience
spanning 14 nations across 5 continents. Under the able guidance of the
country's leading management faculty, a passion for continuous learning
synergizes with experiences from diverse backgrounds to create an enriching
learning environment.

We started the Post Graduate Program for Executives (PGPEX) in 2007 and today the
program is in its ninth year. Faculty members and other stakeholders of the Institute
envisaged the need of starting a specialized full time programme, designed to select
and incubate people with exceptional intellectual and leadership potential to meet
today's globally challenging business environment where they can remain competitive
by thinking strategically and tactically. We have recently restructured the PGPEX
curriculum, which was made operational from the Academic Session 2015-2016.
Individual research projects, introduction of pre work and workshop modes of teaching,
live projects within a course have been encouraged in the revised curriculum. Last
year, the PGPEX students with their rich and diverse domain experience launched the
first editionof the PGPEX online newsletter, "PGPEX Business Review".
The school has taken the initiative to earn accreditation from top global agencies. The
Institute has recently received the AACSB accreditation, one of the most coveted among
B-schools, which has been earned by less than five percent of the world's business
programmes. It takes a great deal of self-evaluation and determination to earn AACSB
Accreditation and an international accreditation gives us recognition that we are doing
fundamentally well. In addition to AACSB, IIM Calcutta has also received accreditation
from AMBA in March 2014. Through accreditation, IIM Calcutta has not only met
specific standards of excellence, but also made a commitment to ongoing improvement
to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver high quality education to its students.

Dear Recruiter,
PGPEX is the one year, full-time, residential, post-graduate program in management
of IIM Calcutta. It has been designed for executives with substantial work experience
and leadership potential. The program, currently in its ninth year, has created top
management professionals who have enriched business in India and abroad through
their strategic contributions across industries.
The extremely competitive selection process followed in the program ensures that only
the very best in terms of aptitude, initiative and experience qualify. A look at the batch
profile for the present class will show that they have about 9 years of average work
experience with significant international exposure. This is a diverse batch with work
experience in Information Technology, Consulting, Telecom, Manufacturing, Power and
Financial Services.
The PGPEX course is structured to harness and synergize management understanding
and techniques through courses offered by our in-house and international visiting
faculty. This is further augmented with consistent engagement with industry leaders
and CEOs who share with the participants their rich insights and practical underpinnings.
PGPEX students also go through an international immersion program to improve their
understanding of global business. On completion of the course, the students are able
to implement new ideas, play leadership roles and contribute significantly to the growth
and development of their organizations. The rigors of the PGPEX curriculum have met
the stringent accreditation norms set by AACSB. IIM Calcutta has also been placed
among the top 16 global business schools according to the ranking done by the
Financial Times.
The experience and domain knowledge of the students, backed by the management
skills imparted by IIM Calcutta's globally reputed PGPEX program have shaped them
to be successful future business leaders and change agents ready to face the ever
changing, competitive and increasingly globalized world.

I taught this group from IIM-Calcutta about the European economic integration during
their visit to Manheim business school. The group was extremely interested and had very
good basic knowledge of international economics. They were very much interested to know

Being selected for the PGPEX program was a dream come true for me.
PGPEX program was instrumental in transforming my "frog in the well"
mindset. The program expanded my knowledge horizons and helped me to
think big. The program gave me a 360 degree view and enhanced understanding
of various aspects of businesses. It also contributed vastly to honing my
understanding of the various components of strategy. I cherished the campus
experience and benefitted from the diversity of my batch. My family also enjoyed
the campus environment and blended well with the families of my batchmates.
Post the program, a lot of avenues and roles that otherwise I would
not have had access to have opened up.

One challenging year at the beautiful IIM Calcutta campus was an enriching
experience in varied dimensions. Living and breathing Management studies, amongst
some very bright minds and under the tutelage of exceptionally competent Professors,
prepared me well for the Corporate life after having spent nearly 20 years in Indian
Army. My soft landing process was greatly aided by the camaraderie instilled during
hours of burning the midnight oil together in groups. My present assignment, in
Corporate Planning, needs a blend of nearly every subject studied at the campus
with the past experience gained.

'Being a CEO' series, offers a unique platform for the students to connect

The objective of this series is to facilitate interaction between students and
top executives from organizations across industries. Each session provides
a glimpse into the various facets that may occupy a top leader's thoughts.
The speakers bring years of leadership experience and captivating stories
on diverse matter such as government regulations, people management,
career changes and several learning from failures. The students are exposed
to the various challenges, complexities, dilemmas and possible ways to
counter those in the realms of decision-making at the highest levels of
organizations.
During the past few years, the PGPEX students have had the privilege of
hosting speakers from various diverse sectors of the industry such as
Banking, Finance, Defense, Retail, Power, Automotive and IT. A major
advantage of these sessions is that it helps students develop a bridge
between the theoretical concepts learnt in classroom and the realities of
day-to-day governance in leading organizations. The interaction has also
provided opportunities to students to talk to the speakers on sidelines and
seek guidance on career and post MBA life. A common theme across all
speakers is the emphasis on ethical decision making in an increasingly
unforgiving corporate environment. Thus the complexities of doing business
without compromising on core values are brought out very well through
such interactions. It helps student gain a holistic understanding of how to
tackle such challenges as future leaders and definitely adds to their armory
as they embark on their journey as senior managers and business leaders
post MBA.

Despite the day to day rigors of this one year programme, PGPEX students participate whole heartedly in the activities of
the clubs and have been, over the years, one of the major driving forces in organizing and hosting various events. Apart
from the clubs, the PGPEX students are also an integral part of the institutes Sports Fraternity participating actively in
Sporting events both off and on campus.
One of the new activities at campus this year has been the start of kayaking at some of the seven lakes the campus boasts
of. Few of the PGPEX students have successfully cleared the eligibility tests to become the "elite" first Kayaking club members
of IIM Calcutta. This year's annual sports event had PGPEX representation in various categories and many current batch
students proved their mettle by winning multiple accolades too. Regular fitness freaks and joggers from PGPEX find haven
in "Armageddon Club "which is dedicated to adventure freaks, trekkers and joggers. Few students stay with their families
on campus in the family hostel. The spouses are welcome in the social events at campus and the kids find ample space
and natural playgrounds to nurture their young minds at the green campus.

The family hostel enriches the bond between not just the fellow students but between their family members. The facilities
at MDC, for the students who are living single on-campus, provide state of the art residential facilities with all modern
amenities and is probably one of the best residential facilities at a management school in the country.
From the morning rush to the breakfast at the mess amidst occasional sightings of migratory birds to the late night study
break dash to the all-night open Lake View canteen - from the nights spent in the corridors of the huge resourceful library
to the morning cuppa coffee at the coffee shop before rushing to the morning class -a walk in the wee hours of the morning
amidst the lush green trees to the evening tryst with your camera lenses to catch a beautiful sunset from campus amongst
a quick break from study- Nature , activities, diversity and bonding make up the wholesome essence of a "life" at one of
the oldest and premier management institutes in India- goes a long way in inculcating and experiencing true values of
life and adds to the already existing world class pedagogy offered at the institute
