A thousand ideas
one amazing island
FREE1
WELCOME
BY TRAIN
Trains to Weymouth run from London Waterloo via
Southampton Central and Parkway (South West Trains)
and from Bristol Temple Meads (First Great Western).
There are taxi cabs outside Weymouth Train Station
(a cab to Portland costs roughly 15 one way).
This guide will help you to navigate around both the festival and the
island to get the most out of the newly commissioned artists' works, our
amazing line-up of events and to enjoy what this wonderful island has
to offer.
Free APP
Download our app from our website for
an interactive guide to navigate around
the festival using GPS tracking. You will
find a complete calendar of events, crossreferenced by artist, location or date, as well
as the chance to personalise your visit before
the festival even starts.
BY BUS
Buses run frequently between Weymouth and Portland.
Links to areas further afield are available too, such as
Dorchester and Exeter. Service Number 1 from Kings
Statue Weymouth to Portland, does a circuit of the
island as far as Southwell. It runs approx. every 10 mins
Mon Sat, 15 mins Sunday, and every 20-30 mins
Sunday evening. The 501 from Kings Statue Weymouth
to Portland Bill via Portland Castle and Easton, runs
five times daily. Visit www.firstgroup.com/dorset or call
0345 602 0121 (Mon Sat 7am-7pm, Sun 7am-6pm).
BY CAR
From the South and London: Follow the A35 towards
Dorchester, then the A354 signed Weymouth and from
then on follow signs to Portland.
From the West Country: Follow the signs for Bridport,
and then take either the B3157 coast road (signed
Abbotsbury) towards Weymouth, or the A35 towards
Dorchester. Follow signs to Portland.
BY BOAT
A lovely fair-weather option is to take the Coastline
Cruises 'Portland Ferry' from Weymouth Harbour
(South Side) at 10.30am, 12.30pm or 2.30pm. The
journey takes 50 mins and returns at 11.30am, 1.30pm
and 3.30pm, with two later sailings on weekends. 5
Adult Single, 10 Return. The skipper will be carrying
b-side guides and maps during the festival. Bookings
can be made in advance or bought directly at the
harbourside. It is essential to check sailing times
on01305 785000 / 07749 732428.
B-SIDE TEAM
Due to its geography Portland naturally divides into two areas Underhill and Tophill. At only four miles long and
one and a half miles wide nowhere is too far to walk, but the steep hill between the Underhill area and Tophill
can be quite a challenge. The Number 1 bus offers an alternative to climbing the hill. Catch it from Fortuneswell
opposite our b-side HQ outpost and get off at The Heights Hotel or Easton.

Castletown started out as a small fishing village, before becoming a busy area serving the numerous
sailors from the Royal Naval Dockyard. An area steeped in military history, it was also the site from where
much of the world famous Portland stone was shipped to London. Chiswell is a small former fishing village
at the southern end of Chesil Beach, situated alongside the pebble bank of Chesil Cove. The promenade
and sea wall which forms Chiswell's coastal defences are a prominent feature.

PSQT was formed in 1983 making a major contribution to the Year of Beautiful Britain a national campaign
for communities to become involved in improving their environments. Established and emerging artists
(local, national and international) have created both temporary and permanent site-specific work in
response to the quarry environment, and now Drill Hall also includes a beautiful exhibition and event space.
PSQT courses have a great reputation for quality in teaching stone carving and sculpture, for innovative
work made in the newly refurbished Stone / Work / Space at the Drill Hall (www.stoneworkspace.org) and in
