1. Scope:
This procedure covers the work method for post testing of sections made for major water crossings & crossings carry out
by HDD & Cased Crossing .. method as per specification.
2. Reference:
EIL Specification No. 6 71 0055 Rev.-2
3. Method:
m)
a)
The testing scheme shall be submitted to EIL prior to test.
b)
For post testing of pipe sections, clean construction / potable water shall be used.
c)
Pipeline section shall be cleaned by air driven pigs provided with spring brush with chisel / wire brush
having a diameter 5 mm. more then I.D. of pipe and cups.
d)
Pig launcher and pig receiver header shall be installed respectively on both side of the pipeline section for
air cleaning.
e)
After completion and acceptance of air cleaning by EIL / GAIL, water filling shall be started.
f)
During filling of water proper venting shall be done at highest point to remove all the entrapped air.
g)
Calibrated pressure gauges shall be installed during testing at both the ends of section under test.
h)
Pipeline section shall be gradually pressurized to the minimum test pressure as equal to 1.4 times the
design pressure and the maximum test pressure shall not be higher than the one resulting in a hoop stress
corresponding to 90% of SMYS of pipe material based on the min. wall thickness in the test section.
i)
During pressurization a warning signboard shall be displayed as KEEP AWAY SYSTEM UNDER
PRESSURE.
j)
The highest point of the test section shall be subjected to the minimum test pressure specified above.
k)
Test pressure shall be retained in the pipeline for four hrs and pressure/ temperature readings shall be
record at every 1 hrs. During holding period if the pressure exceeds the maximum allowable test pressure,
then necessary bleeding off shall be done to bring the pressure down to the specified limit and collect water
into a calibrated Biker.
l)
After completion and acceptance of testing by EIL/GAIL, dewatering shall be done by compressed air.
Respective inspection reports shall be submitted for approval to EIL/ GAIL.
