SCOPE
This specification covers the supply and laying of R.C.C. Hume Pipes as may
be required. The entire work shall be carried out as per latest editions of
British Standards.
5.01.00
SUPPLY OF PIPES
The Contractor shall supply the R.C.C. Hume Pipes of various diameters
along with complete fittings required for carrying out the work. R.C.C. Hume
Pipes should conform to British Standards, as may be required and should be
in a good condition. The Contractor must furnish, on being demanded by the
Engineer, manufacturers certificates and/or test certificates from recognised
authorities. PCC encasement shall also be provided whenever required as
per design requirement.

LAYING OF PIPES
5.03.01
General
The laying of R.C.C. Pipes shall conform to British Standards.

Culvert Condition
In this condition the pipe is laid under embankment and may project wholly or
partly above the original ground surface.

Trench Condition
In this condition the pipe is laid in a trench excavated for the purpose. The
trench shall be refilled with thoroughly tamped earth after laying and jointing
of pipes in approved manner.

Open Condition
In this condition the pipe is laid such that it projects wholly or partly above
original ground surface, there being no super imposed over burden on the
pipe.

Culvert Condition
In this condition the pipes shall be laid generally on Bedding as per relevant
British Standards, unless directed otherwise.
5.04.02
Trench Condition
In this condition the pipes shall be laid generally on Bedding as per relevant
British Standards, unless directed otherwise.

Open Condition
In open condition the pipeline shall be supported over rigid pedestals
constructed at intervals not greater than the length of one individual piece of
pipe, as per drawings and instructions of the Engineer. In no case shall the
joint concrete with a properly shaped out top to receive the pipe.
5.05.00
JOINT OF PIPES
The provision of British Standards shall be followed for jointing of pipes and
every possible care shall be taken by the Contractor to ensure that the joints
made are leak proof. Curing of joints shall be done for a period of 10 days.

MANHOLES
Manholes shall be provided for pipe drains at the change of diameter of pipe,
alignment and direction at a max. spacing of 30 m c/c upto 900 mm diameter
and 45 m c/c for higher diameters of the pipe. Details of manhole shall be as
specified in British Standards.
Each manhole shall be provided with a heavy duty C.I cover as per British
Standards.
