The Itsy-Bitsy Spider

Objective: Students will sing this song after being shown the music, and the
teacher represents it to them a few times in different ways, and then uses hand
motions to keep the steady beat.

Process:
o Instructor will introduce the song The Itsy Bitsy Spider while it is being
shown over the projector, or on a handout given to the students.
o The teacher will sing it a couple of times through while the class sits and
listens.
o Then, the teacher will split the song into different parts and have the class
copy her as she sings.
First part: The itsy- bitsy spider went up the water spout.
Second part: Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Third part: Out came the sun and dried up all the rain.
Fourth part: And the itsy-bitsy spider went up the spout again.
o Once, they have accomplished that the teacher and the class will sing the
entire song a couple times through altogether.

o The teacher will then add hand motions that symbolize a spider because it
will help students keep the steady beat while singing.
o This song can be connected to all sorts of other subjects; an example is
science for the water cycle.
