Deforestation
What is
deforestation?
Deforestation is the removal of the worlds forests in large amounts and scales
to make room for new facilities or for productions.
Deforestation is the 3rd biggest economic factor and ability of trade in the
world.
Deforestation also is responsible for food growth in mass quantities in various
places in the world.
How has the topic of deforestation grown in the recent years and are there any
real solutions or balances we can apply.
Research
While Deforestation is devastating to the environment, which is virtually known by everyone,it is
also a major economic gain.
Trees give the world Oxygen, a resource needed by all living things. Trees also consume Carbon
Dioxide, a harmful gas to living things and the atmosphere.
46-58 thousand square miles of forests are lost each year, which is devastating to not only our
atmosphere and environment but also endangered animals who make their homes within those trees.
1.6 billion people rely on benefits that forests offer.
Research (Cont.)
Deforestation accounted for 22% of Brazils GDP in 2011. That number applies to most countries all
around the world considering how heavily the world relies on deforestation.
Agribusiness companies such as food growers report that the products from deforestation accounts
for 59.4 percent of their food growth.
Agribusiness exports made up 36.9 percent of total exports and produced 94.6 million dollars for the
trade balance in 2011
Balance - a viable
solution for saving this
world.
Analysis of options What are some options we can take to help this issue?
- Siding with the non believers.
Could deforestation be a fluke? Maybe it isnt as bad as we make it out to be?
- Spreading awareness
It is best for the world to know about deforestation right? This issue we have caused.. We should
let the world know about this problem by means of education and awareness.
Recommendations
We can continue cutting down trees, but maybe set a limit per month? While
replanting new trees in order to keep forests steadily producing and living.
Recommendations (Cont)
Balance is key
If we contacted a major company who uses wood products.. Such as a pencil maker
for example, if one single company took their pencils and replaced wood with
another eco-friendly material...
27%
That is how much less trees would be needed to be cut.
