    What do school
    counselors do?
    The school counselor at the
    middle school level is a
    professional school advocate.
    School counselors are able to
    understand and intervene to the
    challenges and barriers that
    students face everyday. School
    counselors are essential to the
    academic achievement of all
    students.
    At Bakers Middle school
    counselors work under four
    areas: school guidance
    curriculum, individual student
    planning, responsive services,
    and finally system support.
    Through these areas school
    counselors assist students in
    exploring a variety of interests as
    they develop a sense of self and
    begin connecting the classroom
    teachings to real world.

    Bakers Middle School

    comprehensive support to
    maximize student potential and
    academic achievement while
    preparing students the
    knowledge and skills to
    contribute as productive
    members of society.

    By using school data, school counselors at
    Bakers Middle School implement
    programs to work with students to improve
    the three domains: personal/social,
    academic, and career.
    Programming

    o We use both proactive and


    reactive services for students
    including:

    School Guidance Curriculum


    o We work in collaboration
    with teachers to create a
    structured set of curriculum.

    Individual Student Planning


    o We work with students
    individually to create goals;
    place students in
    academically appropriate
    classes; and assist with
    future plans.
    o We interpret standardized
    test results and send them
    home for parent/guardian
    review.
    o We plan and issue selfdiscovery & self-assessment
    activities for student growth.
    o We help with transition
    planning as students move
    from elementary to middle
    school and middle to high
    school.
