Red Cross / Red Crescent - The International Red Cross

and Red Crescent Movement is an international humanitarian


movement with approximately 97 million volunteers, members and
staff worldwide[3]
which was founded to protect human life and health,
to ensure respect for all human beings, and to prevent and alleviate
human suffering.

Doctors Without Borders - Mdecins Sans Frontires (MSF) also

known as Doctors Without Borders, is an international humanitarian


non-governmental organization (NGO) best known for its projects in war-torn
regions and developing countries affected by endemic diseases. In 2015, over
30,000 personnel mostly local doctors, nurses and other medical professionals,
logistical experts, water and sanitation engineers and administrators provided
medical aid in over 70 countries.[1]The vast majority of staff are volunteers. Private
donors provide about 90% of the organization's funding, while corporate donations
provide the rest, giving MSF an annual budget of approximately US$750 million.[2]

Green Peace - Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning

organization that acts to change attitudes and behaviour, to protect and conserve
the environment. Greenpeace today operates in more than 40 countries with
Greenpeace Canada headquartered in Toronto. We have more than 90,000
supporters in Canada and 2.9 millions members worldwide, and represent them at
virtually every international environmental conference.
YWCA/YMCA - The YMCA in Canada is dedicated to the growth of all
persons in spirit, mind and body, and to their sense of responsibility to each
other and the global community.While all YMCAs in Canada share this
overarching purpose, each local YMCA is driven by their own mission
statement to help them address the unique needs of their communities.

Citizens for Local Democracy (C4LD) - The key to a successful


group is making sure it does things. Yes, the group is a forum for discussion, but it
also must do things, such as: send letters to city council; organize a campaign to
pressure MPPs by letter or in person, get speakers on the list for various hearings,
get the message out widely to the whole community.In thinking about the group,
ensure it is action oriented, that it sets goals and gets them done. The group should
not see its role as existing to discover the definitive position on a given issue, but
rather to attract a lot of energy to that issue so people can help resolve it.

CAVEAT (Canadians Against Violence) - is a grassroots

charitable organization serving as a non-partisan voice for all Canadians, working


together for safety, peace, and justice.

Our means of support is a community of Canadian shaken by senseless acts of violence

and injustice. Our membership consists of victims, the general public, and includes a
large youth contingent. The fact that over 80% of our members are not yet direct victims
of violent crime gives our work balance and perspective. It shows that Canadians are
deeply concerned about crime and public safety.

Goodwill Industries - Changing lives and communities through the

power of WORK.Goodwill Industries, a non-profit social enterprise, provides work


opportunities, skills development and employee and family strengthening for those
who face barriers such as disability or social disadvantage; with the aim of
advancing individuals, families and communities toward self-sufficiency and
prosperity.

Street Kids International - is a Canadian-based non-governmental

organization founded by Peter Dalglish and Frank O'Dea in 1988.[1] The organization
focuses on providing street youth with the opportunity to lead safer and better lives
through three main programme avenues: street health, street work and street
rights. In 2008, Street Kids International expanded its operations to the United
Kingdom with Street Kids International UK.

National Association for the Advancement of Colored


People (NAACP) - is an African-American civil rights organization in the

United States, formed in 1909 by Moorfield Storey, Mary White Ovington and W. E.
B. Du Bois.[3]
Its mission is "to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic
equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial
discrimination." Their national initiatives included political lobbying, publicity
efforts, and court strategies developed by their legal team.[4] The group enlarged its
mission in the late 20th century by considering issues such as police misconduct, the
status of black foreign refugees, and questions of economic development.[5] Its name,
retained in accordance

with tradition, uses the once common term colored people.

Oxfam - is an international confederation of charitable organizations focused

on the alleviation of global poverty. Oxfam was founded at 17 Broad Street in


Oxford, Oxfordshire, in 1942 as the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief by a
group of Quakers, social activists, and Oxford academics; this is now Oxfam Great
Britain, still based in Oxford. It was one of several local committees formed in
support of the National Famine Relief Committee. Their mission was to persuade the
British government to allow food relief through the Allied blockade for the starving
citizens of occupied Greece. The first overseas Oxfam was founded in Canada in
1963.
The organization changed its name to its telegraph address, OXFAM, in 1965.

International PEN - PEN International promotes literature and freedom of


expression and is governed by the PEN Charter and the principles it embodies:
unhampered transmission of thought within each nation and between all nations.
PEN International is the worlds leading association of writers, working to promote

literature and defend freedom of expression around the world. PEN was founded by
the British poet, playwright and peace activist C.A. Dawson-Scott, as an international
club providing space for writers to share ideas and as a forum, uniting writers
irrespective of their culture, language or political opinion. Today PEN International
connects an international community of writers from its Secretariat in London,
spanning over 100 countries, with 149 PEN Centres worldwide.
