1 INTRODUCTION
1.1

Purpose and Scope of Document

ENGG

CERT

This document defines the basis for the design of the Sea Water Intake /
Discharge System (A61) at the Jazan Integrated Gasification Combined
Cycle (JIGCC), Jazan Economic City, Saudi Arabia.

DESCRIPTION

1.2

Project Overview

DATE

JO/EWO

Saudi Aramco is currently developing a large world-scale electric power

plant adjacent to the 400,000 BPSD grassroots Jazan Refinery & Terminal
Project being developed in the Jazan Economic City (JEC) in the SouthWestern region of Saudi Arabia. The power plant will be based on
Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) technology and will not
only serve the refinery power needs, but also export a large amount of
power to the national grid to meet the growing national demand for electric
power.

REV NO.

This Jazan IGCC project (JIGCC) will be integrated with the Refinery such
that the overall scope is optimized. Synergies include, but are not limited to,
combined seawater intake, power generation, steam generation, potable
water and hydrogen from the JIGCC to the Refinery. The primary feedstock
to the power plant will be the vacuum residue (VR) produced in the
Refinery plus imported high sulfur fuel oil (HSFO). The design feed
capacity of the JIGCC is expected to be about 110MBD of VR and/or
HSFO and will export a minimum of 2.4GW of net power to the grid.

Discharge channel
General location

ENGG

CERT

The discharge channel is to run from the collection basin located along the
southern boundary of the plant, down to the outfall structure at the existing
shore just to the south of the marine terminal.

DESCRIPTION

4.7.2

Drop structure

JO/EWO

The first section of the channel is a single full-width channel running down
from the RL100.0 m Refinery and JIGCC area down to approximately
RL93.0 m. This section may contain flow control measures in the channel
to control the flow rate through the change of level.
This section of channel is to handle the full flow of all A24 cooling pumps
and desalination brine stream.

REV NO.

DATE

No allowance is made for stormwater collection in this section of channel.

4.7.3

Mixing basin
At the bottom of the dogleg drop structure, the channel is to include a
mixing basin to allow the bypass channel to join the main flow channel.

DISCIPLINE
ENGINEER
