There are three comparisons between the Philippines and Middle East.
They are oil dependence, muslim separatism and labor conditions for
Filipino contract workers in Saudi Arabia. The Philippines required
priced oil and fluctuations in world oil prices caused serious problems
for the Philippines, including politically incendiary strikes by the
drivers of jeepney, jeep converted to carry passengers, which were a
vital form of public transport in manila. For this reason, the Philippine
government was very conscious of the need to maintain good relations
to middle eastern oil producers and of the effect that its treatment of
the muslim minority could have on those relations. In additional, as of
January 1991, there were an estimated 495,300 Filipinos working in
middle east, including 390,00 in Saudi Arabia, 2000 in Kuwait and 50 in
Iraq. Those workers were a major source of Philippine hand currency
earnings, but their presence also made the Philippines vulnerable to
volatile changes in middle eastern politics
REACTION
It is nice to know about their country not just only the harassment
that attach to it
PLOT ON THE STORY OF A THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS
Exposition
The story starts with a king, Shahzaman, whose wife has committed
adultery with a kitchen boy. He kills both of them and declares that he
shall leave immediately for his brothers kingdom in India.
Complication
Crisis
On this journey, they cross the path of a demons wife, who commands
them to sleep with her, bringing her total to one hundred men she has
slept with while entrapped in the horrible marriage of the demon. She
showed the brothers that a womans cunning will get her what she
wants. They travel back to their cities, and Shahrayar has a plan in
mind to outwit a womans cunning wiles. When Shahrayar returns he
puts his wife to death, then he orders his vizier to find a daughter of a
prince. He marries her, and then kills her the next morning, before any
harm can befall him. Shahrayar continues this for many days, until the
people call for a plague upon the head of their king. However, the
vizier has two daughters. Shahrazad has been well educated and is
knowledgeable. With a plan in mind, she requests that her father
marry her to the king. Her father, the vizier, tells her the story of the
donkey and the ox, stating that her miscalculation will be the end of
her.
Denouement
Then when she insists to be wed to the king, he threatens with the
story of the Merchant and His Wife to beat her. She still requests. The
vizier goes before the king, telling him that his daughter would like to
marry him. They are wed, and that night Shahrazad requests that she
say good bye to her sister before her death in the morning. The king
agrees and sends for Dinarzad, who requests a story from her sister
before she sleeps. With the kings permission she starts the story of
the Merchant and the Demon, but does not finish due to sunrise and
sleep. As morning overtakes her, her audience is intrigued by her
story. She states What is this compared with what I shall tell you
tomorrow night if the king spares me and lets me live? Due to his
curiosity, she is not put to death, but the next night continues the
story. She does this for one thousand and one nights.
Ending
At the end, the king accepts her as his queen, having learned many
lessons about life from her stories.
As I read the story I was amazed by the story because I didnt know
that even before there was a story just like this I leaned that nobody
isnt really perfect.
COMPARISON OF PHILIPPINES TO GENGHIS KHAN AND THE
MONGOLS
Despite having avoided being assimilated into the Mongol Empire, the
Philippines and Genghis Khan appear to have a profoundly interesting
connection in the form of National Artists Manuel Conde and Carlos
Franciscos movie: Genghis Khan (Ruler of Kings, Emperor of All Men),
which was shown during the golden age of the Philippines in the
1950s. A survey of the Time magazine articles, which could have been
a reference in making the movie, gave, with the exception of one,
unflattering references to Genghis Khan. Despite not claiming to be a
historically faithful rendition of Genghis Khan, the movie seems to
have at least two interesting points. One is the accidental use of local
horses which happen to be closer in appearance to the Mongolian
breed. Another was the depiction of how Temujin was bound up when
he was captured by a rival tribe. The movie was a pioneer in many
respects, and has garnered acclaim from both inside and outside the
Philippines. It is noteworthy that once upon a time in the Philippines,
the great Mongolian conqueror inspired two of the Philippines
greatest artists to work hard even under stringent constraints, at a
high-level of collaboration with each other. These are values that all
Filipinos today would do well to remember.
Exposition
A hotel where two Americans are staying. The view from the window
of the couple's room looks out over the public gardens, a war
monument and the sea. it's raining cats and dogs (well, at least cats,
as we come to find) and the scene of the dripping palms, empty
square, and regular waves on the beach make everything feel sort of
monotonous and abandoned.
Complication
Crisis
The wife goes downstairs and finds herself in the presence of the
hotel keeper or "padrone," a large, older man who stands up from his
desk and bows to the wife as she approaches. She has likes this guy
for some reason. We know this because of how she "likes" his hands,
his dignity, his face, his seriousness and "the way he felt about being a
hotel-keeper".
Climax
When she opens the door, the hotel maid appears behind her with an
umbrella and follows her into the rain. When the wife doesn't find the
cat under the table, the maid notices her disappointment and asks
what's wrongall in a nice mix of Italian and English phrases. The
maid is a little skeptical at the thought of a "gatto" hanging out in the
rainy square, but the wife only affirms that she saw it and that she
"wanted it so much".
Denouement
When the wife comes back the hotel room, her husband, George, is
still reading on the bed and asks if she found the cat. She sits in front
of a mirror, looks at her profile, and asks if she would look better with
long hair. Her husband replies no, and she begins to talk about the
things she feels she wantsa cat, long hair that she can feel and
twist, her own candles and silver, and for it to be spring outside.
Ending
As the room grows darker, there's a knock at the door. It's the maid,
and she's holding a cata gift for the "Signora" from the padrone.
Exposition
This story is about a poor man named Chameleon, who own a farm
that was stolen from him by another man named Anansi. Unlike Anansi
who is rich man and his own children to tilled his farm. Chameleon is
deprived from all of this.
Complication
He have nothing but his farm to provide him foods but, there come a
time when the farm owned by Anansi failed to give him any harvest
caused by a drought while the farm owned by Chameleon was save
from this unfortunate event because there was once rain came on his
farm.
Crisis
Climax
Denouement
His clock made a news that spread like a wild fire and made Anansi
state his desire to have this clock to Chameleon offer anything in
return. Anansi not knowing of the latters bait, immediately obeyed the
bargain price.
Ending
To fill the latters hole in the latters house with foods. But even with
his whole possession sold, he failed to meet his side of the deal,
seeing Anansi becoming poor. Chameleon pretended to pity and forgive
him by giving his clock. Anansis greediness made him accept
Chameleons gift and walk under the sun without knowing what faith
be fall to him.
It is not always good to do bad things to other people because just like
in the story it might come back to you. Always remember that there is
always a karma waiting for u always.
PLOT OF EYE WITNESS REPORT OF DEPORTATION
Exposition
Sonia Chirgwin is an Australian who sent abroad for a year then came
back. This was she witnessed at the airport upon her return home.
Complication
Crisis
Climax
Denouement
Ending
However, I was not able to assist him in anyway. I left the plane in
Melbourne wondering if they would remove the deportees gag to allow
him to eat or drink anytime over the time of our flight back to Bangkok.
I could not see how it would be possible as they would not want utter
a single sound, an image so sumps up the voiceless state of people
that we determine to be unfit for our country. All I can do is tell his
story. But it is with sadness as I do not know his name or where he is
from although I can say he is of middle eastern origin, all I can do for
him is give a glimpse of his story. As I have no idea of what other
horrors he has endured.
REACTION
The story teach us not to make any violent reaction about what our
security personnel are doing just to make us safe from the dangerous
people.
PLOT OF THE FILIPINOS ARE WORTH DYING FOR
Exposition: I have spent almost eight long and lonely years in military
confinement. The problem of Martial Rule and its injustices have
nagged me all these years. During those eight years, I learned the true
meaning of humiliation of courage, of hunger and endless anxiety.
Rather than be bitter I have learned to accept my suffering as a
cleansing process and a rare opportunity to really grapple with the
problems of the Filipino.
Complication: I have carefully weighed the virtues and the faults of the
Filipino and I have come to the conclusion that he is worth dying for
because he is the nations greatest untapped resource. He is not a
coward. He values life and he tends to give his leader the maximum
benefit of the doubt. Given a good leader, because he is a good
follower, the Filipino can attain great heights.
Ending: Because of his death, Edsa 1 was born. After that Cory Aquino
was put in power and that is the way that the Filipinos regained their
freedom on June 12,1986.
REACTION
I know a person who gave his life for the Filipino. His name is Ninoy
Aquino. He loved the Philippines so much that he wanted us to be free
from the rule of Marcos. He knew it was dangerous but he still did it
for our country. We as Filipinos are grateful for the sacrifices that Ninoy
made for us. He had given us the courage to fight for our freedom. Now
we know that when our freedom is taken from us again, we have to
fight for it and never give it up because we deserve it.
COMPARISON OF PHILIPPINES TO AFRICA
REACTION
I am afraid that in the future, our children now are suffer from this un
ending poverty because of corruption. I am hoping that in the election,
we choose the right person that might help our country in the future.
PLOT OF THE COUNTRY FOR MANDELA
Ending: After he was elected the first south African black President.
He did seek a second term and is now devoted in promoting AIDS
awareness.
REFLECTION
REACTION
I hope that one day I was able to visit the county of Australia. I want
to see how beautiful that place is.
nor cool the ardor of unheeding lovers from the monstrous sun.
is no ordinary sun.
Ending: O tree
In No Ordinary Sun, a tree is a symbol for nature. The tree will suffer
the effects of a nuclear catastrophe, perhaps mankinds most
devastating intrusion into the natural world, and the resilience the
tree once was able to exert against forces of destruction, would not
be enough, for this is no ordinary sun. Tuwhare compares the effects
of a nuclear disaster to the situations the tree once had to face. He
uses this comparison to emphasize the harsh effects of nuclear fallout
on nature. The tree could once blunt an axe, or smother a fire, but
now, its former shagginess shall not be wreathed with the delightful
flight of birds. Tuwhare also links the tree to its importance to
humans in using a seemingly insignificant image of lovers shielding
from the monstrous sun under the trees arms.
The poem reflects to the global warming. One of the causes of this
was the mining and illegal logging. We must learn how to take good
care of our mother earth, we must plant trees.
PLOT OF BONES
Crisis: the health inspector wasnt giveDongo his license unless he will
get his meat shop clean after a week. A week later, the health
inspector came back and saw that Dongos meat shop still untidy.
Climax: a woman passed by and heard that the health inspector didnt
want to give Dongos license. She told to him that there is another way
to get his license, he must give the health inspect tor some bones.
Bones or money. That even Dongo did not obey for the health inspector
wants, he can still get his license for his meat shop by giving money to
the inspector.
Denouement: Dongo takes the advice of the woman. When the health
inspector came back and Dongo ask for his license, the health
inspector got mad because he has seen that the meat shop was not
yet clean. But Dongo give some money in exchange for his license.
Ending: The health inspector receives the money and gives Dongo his
license right away even his meat shop was still dirty and leave the
place in no time.
REFLECTION
The play bones had a great impact not just on the African society but
also anywhere in the world. Because corruption nowadays is getting
worse.it can also start even with the young children up to the older.
Corruption is not just who are in the government but also to the
businessman whose doing some unreasonable price hike for them to
earn big profit. The dog eats dog statement represents to those who
are receiving some money in exchange to their morals.
REACTION
Just like the Philippines, Europe has the highly fragmented land mass
consisting of a large number of peninsula and offshore islands while
the Philippines also had them like Palawan, hundred islands in
Pangasinan.
REACTION
All I want to say about Europe is, it is such an amazing place. Even
though I am not yet been there, I saw the place through the internet
and in news. Our family loves to travel together, and im hoping that
someday, we will be going any place in Europe to see its beauty.
Just like the Philippines, most of the South American countries were
also conquered by the Spaniards. Originally most of their literature
was surviving the wrath of nature at the same time marvelling at its
beauty with a culture and its environment. Both countries are so rich
with the environment, they also offered the backdrop of the brilliant
tales.
REACTION
Exposition
ValentinArregui and Luis Molina are unlikely cell mates in a Latin
American prison. Valentin, a journalist, is a political prisoner who was
working for a leftist anti-government revolutionary group.
Complication
While in prison, he is frequently tortured in order to cough up
information on those with whom he is working. That includes the new
prisoner in the cell across the block from his. Valentin has yet to
provide the authorities with any useful information. Molina, a
stereotypically gay window dresser, is imprisoned on morals charges:
having homosexual sex with a minor.
Crisis
He states that he has no political affiliations. To pass the time, Molina
recounts aloud story-lines from his favorite movies, usually those of a
romantic nature. The current movie of which he is telling is a wartime
romantic thriller, which in reality is a World War II Nazi propaganda
film, about which he doesn't care as he focuses on the romance part
of the story.
Climax
Because of the reason for his imprisonment, Valentin doesn't much
like that Molina is telling a story produced by a repressive regime, but
gets caught up in Molina's story-telling regardless. The unlikely cell
mates form an equally unlikely friendship based on their mutual
support for each other. Molina later admits that he has fallen in love
with Valentin.
Denouement
What Valentin does not know is that Molina has been co-opted by the
prison warden and the secret police to befriend Valentin so that he
can get information on and report back to them about the leftist group
with which Valentin is working.
Ending
Molina's reward is early parole. The question becomes on whose side
is Molina really supporting if either.
REFLECTION ON THE KISS OF A SPIDER WOMAN
Homosexuality was not seen in a positive light and many people who
identified as homosexual were often killed, imprisoned or seen as an
outcast. To successfully relate political struggle with that of
homosexuality. There are still revolutionaries fighting for political
justice and society continues to explore homosexuality. Their dream
was short but it was not in vain. Even though Molina is not a political
person, she still recognizes the importance of change in the world.
Both Molinas cause and Valentins cause are equally important.
REACTION
I felt sad to those homosexuals who did not want to go out in their
comfort zone because they are afraid that they not going to be
accepted. In our country today. Homosexuals plays an important role
because they are the one who gives joy through different pageants,
their creativeness gives the country a pride all over the world.
REACTION
There is only one place that comparable to the Philippines, and that is
the overpopulation in China. It has become a global issue as China is
the most populous country in the world and its contribution to the
international community is extremely significant and also in the
Philippines, it is one of the major problem in our country today.
REACTION
REACTION

characters.
