This year, TV5 has a new set of programs coming up, one
that will include the return of the beloved AniMEGA block.
However, this is only a portion of a much-needed overhaul,
one that will also include sister UHF station AksyonTV and FM
radio station Radyo5 92.3 News FM.
Its return this year should give anime fans a new reason to
watch, with series such as Attack on Titan: Junior High,
Kantai Collection, Myriad Colors Phantom World, Knights of
Sidonia and Uta no Prince-sama Maji 1000% airing on TV5
soon. Hopefully TV5 will no longer regret about reviving
AniMEGA ever again.

Solar, as we know, has had its fair share of issues when it comes to local
productions, dating back to its earlier foray with RPN-9 many years ago.
Theyre mostly known as an importer of shows and not a production giant.
TV5 definitely has their work cut out when it comes to this new season of

And considering that many anime these days are adult-oriented and unfit for

domain for animes, while the morning slot which GMA currently utilizes, it
doesnt make sense at all due to the graphic nature of most of them. It was
also the reason why ABS got rid of Team Animazing, because more and more

Plus AksyonTVs airing too much of the old and irrelevant PA shows over and
over when theres no sports events to air. However, with News5 still suffering
from the lack of personnel, bringing such shows wont be easy. Right now
only Alagang Kapatid is their only PA show, and its not good.
Before they can think about those new programs, think about hiring some
talent first to replace those who left. Otherwise, I would rather see a merger
of Aksyon Prime and Aksyon Tonite into a 9:00 p.m. newscast and place
Sports5 Center in the 6:15 slot instead.

Theyre for money over story. This isnt the TV version of the MMFF.
Uncertain Future for the PCCL
After Cancellation of 2016-
17 Tournament
But even before last seasons debacle, the PCCL has had a
reputation for being a poorly-organized tournament.
Supposedly patterned after the U.S. NCAA March Madness
tournament, the PCCL instead turned out to be more of an
exhibition series, with several schools already slotting their
Team B players in lieu of those who already moved to the
professional ranks.
So whats next for the PCCL? While the league hopes to hold
another tournament next year, it remains to be seen if they
will indeed put those hard-earned lessons to the test, and
with regards to TV coverage, it may not be easy to attract
potential suitors this time, given that their most viable backer
in ABS-CBN Sports decided to cut ties.
That said, if this is indeed the end for the PCCL, this is
definitely the time. They may have had promise, but at the
end of the day, a true national champion will only be a
memory.
However, if there is one thing that holds People vs. the Stars
back, it is its schedule. While Family Feud airs every
Saturday and Sunday afternoon, People vs. the Stars was
only given a Sunday afternoon slot as GMA continues to air
Imbestigador opposite Family Feud on Saturdays.
People vs. the Stars airs every Sunday at 5:00 p.m. on GMA.
Dont get me wrong, program-wise, original shows dont last than franchised
ones and its obvious GMA cant afford another franchise because the
entertainment funds are splurging to create a requel of Mulawin this year.
Plus, I dont think People vs. The Stars is like 1 vs 100; its like an inclusive
stand-alone version of Sa Pula, Sa Puti of Eat Bulaga, dont you?

Neutral ako sa problema ng Family Feud, which is mostly celebrity
contestants over masa.
viewers, lalo na sa ratings, since GMAs weekend ratings are somewhat
questionable at best. Viewers have the final say if theyll stick with Family
Feud or go with the alternative.

A few weeks ago, From the Tube discussed the plans that
Chot Reyes envisioned for TV5, which included the return of
AniMEGA and the entry of director Brillante Mendoza to the
fold. Now lets focus on the renovation project of TV5s sister
stations AksyonTV and Radyo5 92.3 News FM, both of which
are now under the leadership of The Philippine Star CEO
Miguel Belmonte.
Last year was a poor one for both stations, not only in
coverage but also in programming. The plight of Radyo5 and
AksyonTV was well-documented, from the departures of
Martin Andanar and Cherie Mercado, to their inability to cover
significant news-worthy events that other stations were
deeply committed to.
Radyo5 really needs new hosts and new shows, period. The
departures of Andanar, Mercado, Anthony Pangilinan and
Benjie Felipe were deeply felt within the station, and Gladys
Lana-Lucas inability to process replacements led to her
dismissal.
This is one area that Belmonte must look at immediately,
because from the looks of it, Radyo5 will never be equal to
more established AM stations like DZMM, DZBB and DZRH.
Heck, he can even sign a blocktime deal with another media
outfit, similar to DZRJ 810 AMs agreement with 8TriMedia.

As far as the PBA goes, the league has always mandated a radio coverage,
so no choice ang Radyo5 as long as TV5 is the coveror. Regarding the need
to air an ongoing live hearing or press conference, the one radio show that
must abide to that is Wanted sa Radyo, because from what I heard last year,
Raffy and Nina continued to air their show even during an important hearing.
While they obviously want to hear the grievances of others, these come at
the expense of a more national issue. That said, it is Belmontes call to
convince the two to give way for a more important event.
2. JRDV
JANUARY 13, 2017 AT 3:17 AM
If they want to remain competitive, they should listen to Brigada and why
they are successful on the news FM market in the country, thanks to their
massive expansion. I repeat, Radyo5 is Radyo5, not DZBB, DZMM or DZRH.
Their music block is basically pang-Easy Rock ang dating since I called
Radyo5 as the softer version of Brigada News FM sa music pa lang.

Unfortunately for JaDine, it was not to be. Till I Met You only
mustered around 26% average ratings in its first two weeks
(in contrast, Pangako sa Yo and Dolce Amore scored
around 30% or more in each episode), forcing ABS-CBN to
demote the drama to the third slot in favor of
Magpahanggang Wakas.
Despite JaDines familiarity with the third slot, Till I Met You
found it hard to win back viewers, at least locally. Unlike On
the Wings of Love which scored better than 25% during its
run, Till I Met You only managed 13% on average.
It has been over two weeks since John Gemperle (a.k.a. Papa Jack)
officially left 90.7 Love Radio.
After all, the popular DJ had been a fixture of the station for over a
decade, hosting the long-running programs TLC: True Love
Conversations and Wild Confessions. And more recently, he was
paired with Kara Karinyosa (real name Klariz Magboo) to form the
equally popular KarJack tandem.
Papa Jacks brand of providing love advice to listeners has been
comparable to fellow DJs Tom Alvarez of Monster RX 93.1 and Slick
Rick, Tony Toni and Sam YG of Magic 89.9. As Love Radio is more
well-known as a masa station, Papa Jacks style fits well with the
stations format, as he typically provides distinct and sometimes blunt
responses to his callers.
On his last broadcast that was aired on December 16, 2016, Papa
Jack did not cite a reason for his resignation. He did give one last
advice to his followers on Facebook a few weeks later.

That said, without any proof, Love Radio has no right to name
themselves No. 1 for the 15th year in a row. They must back
it all up, otherwise listeners will tune out.
For now, 90.7 Love Radio can boast all they want being No. 1

Analyzing the Possible
Timeslot of My Dear Heart
That said, the third slot is usually reserved for either light
dramas (see On the Wings of Love) or more sensual series
(see The Legal Wife). There is no way ABS-CBN will place
My Dear Heart at the third slot given its family-friendly tale.
With all these factors in play, the most logical timeslot for My
Dear Heart will be the second slot after Ang Probinsyano,
after which A Love to Last will move to the third slot. Ang
Probinsyano is already a lock for the leadoff position, and
with the desire for the second slot to regain its past luster,
My Dear Heart appears to be the perfect fit.
Still, this is only a prediction. It will be up to ABS-CBN to
decide the timeslot of My Dear Heart.
I think lorenzos time was on the 3rd slot before. But if you ask me i think
they are better on the 3rd slot, its still 9:20pm which is still early tbh, so they
can use it to make the third slot profitable. And if you think about it MDH can
pull/sustain the viewers from 7:50pm to 9:20pm since ALTL is still new, it will
make a lot more sense to wait and watch the second slot show,
TIMY suffered horribly when they were moved to the third slot from 19%-
12%, ALTL based on its cast is more expensive teleserye than MDH, they
might not want to risk that

As expected. Lets face it, MDH will never be placed in the third slot because
its a family drama, and such dramas dont fit well with the slot due to lower
viewership. The third slot is always reserved for dramas that only teens and
adults can enjoy.
ABS wouldve wanted to place MDH in the first slot, but with Ang Probinsyano
locked at first due to its longevity, the next-best option is the second slot.
Besides, the second slot hasnt had a 30-or-better drama since Dolce Amore,
thats why theyre putting MDH second in hopes of regaining its old form. Not
to mention that ALTL is just two weeks old, which makes it easier to move.

ni Nanay will forever be overshadowed by two ABS-CBN
dramas that gained even greater attention.
As it enters its final week, one can only hope that Sa Piling ni

victorious at the end, but what a run that was.
Talents, in this case, are the actors and hosts of various GMA

Most people cant accept it at all. GMA may claim that theyre superior
according to AGB Nielsen, but theyre inferior in other aspects. Winning in
the ratings doesnt mean theyre the best network ever, and this is
something that Rasonable must realize.
The comments made by Bhong were on the butthurt and fantard side of
things (good thing I deleted it). He claimed that this blog was against GMA,
when in fact he cant accept the truth that his network is not superior at all,
and that even ABS and other networks have their weaknesses too. That said,

AGB Nielsen only trusts the urban population, thinking that they have the
purchasing power to lure in advertisers. Problem is, they failed to account
the rural folks, who have just as much purchasing power as the urbanites.
GMA trusting AGB Nielsen at this point is a serious mistake. No. 1 man sila sa

They say ABS is
the best because they can manage talents very well (partida marami nang
GMA na nakafocus lang sa bankable talents nila like AlDub and DongYan (so
far). They say na GMA is the best daw sa NCAs (news and current affairs),
They also say na magaling magdiscover ang GMa,

GMAs lack of budget has been well-documented. Kaya way behind sila
It
only got worse when they decided to spend money on Encantadia rather
than pursuing both HD and digital broadcasts.
Yung sa news naman, mas lumala ito once they ventured into entertainment
shows. Kung maaalala mo, GMA News began to produce dramas like Titser

It really goes to show how poor GMAs investments are. GMA Films is more or
less a derelict division with no direction whatsoever, because theyre simply
on and off when it comes to producing films. The lack of cash flow and poor
box office returns is affecting that outfit.
Whats worse is that none of GMA Films classics are shown on Cinema One

ChardGel, almost nakaka 200m pa nga sila that time eh pero nawala lang
Maski yung saJuliElmo noon
na 6m lang ang kinita (Buti na lang meron pang mas mababa doon as of now
which is EK10) Kaya yung GMA ngayon nakiki-co produce na lang sila sa
regal o sa movie firm nila vic sotto,
Tsaka kung naging aggressive sila nung mid-2000s kasi nga sila yung nasa
top that time dahil na rin sa Mulawin, Encantadia or in short, nung may

GMA really wanted Angel Locsin to be their franchise player. Kaso GMA did
not renew her contract as soon as it expired, and once she moved to ABS,
they were never the same. The messy divorce was just the beginning of

Kung inalagaan nila ng mabuti si Angel, the transfer would not have

Lalong-
at willing willie before.

As for No. 1, GMA may be doing well with animes, pero it is clear na
napapagod na rin sila. Madalas-dalas na rin kasi silang nagre-replay ng
anime (e.g. Ghost Fighter, Dragon Ball), and over time, interest wanes.
Eventually
theyll have to stop, in the same way that ABS has since stopped airing
animes due to lack of interest.

Countdown to Coronation
(Part II): The
Current Arrangements
The biggest event on Philippine television history gets
underway tomorrow morning. Here is Timows Turfs look at
the coverage of the 2016 Miss Universe which will take place
in the Philippines.
Timow's Turf
Just like the Papal Visit and the APEC Summit back in 2015,
the first major event of 2017 involving high-profile foreign
dignitaries must need a high profile
This Timows Turf special report will be dedicated on the 65th Miss Universe where the
Philippines will host the grand coronation this Monday, January 30. The views and opinions
expressed in this second and concluding installment of two-part special do not reflect those
of the Miss Universe Organization (MUO).
President Rodrigo Duterte posed with Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo and the
fourth batch of the 65th Miss Universe candidates Monday during the courtesy call in
Malacanang. Maxine Medina, the Philippine contingent, is on the far right.
ON THE FIRST part, we tripped down memory lane on the past two editions of Miss
Universe in 1974 and 1994. In this second of two parts, we will tackle the highly anticipated
current event.
Just like the Papal Visit and the APEC Summit back in 2015, the first major event of 2017
involving high-profile foreign dignitaries must need a high profile security in which indeed
President Rodrigo Duterte practiced religiously as he trusts too defensively to the military
and the police.
But how did the organization for the third hosting came to be and how is the progress of
broadcasters concerned?
Hosting back
The awarding of this edition of the pageant came after the reigning Miss Universe Pia
Wurtzbach visited back to the country with the nod of her fellow Mindanaoan President
during the courtesy call in Malacanang last July 18, a week before his first State of the
Nation address.
This nod was unilaterally declared by the Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo but
the MUO officially announced as the host of the pageant last November.
Despite the Presidents disgust, misogynistic and uncanny remarks, the show must go on in
the Mall of Asia Arena this Monday. Steve Harvey will remain the host and will be
accompanied with backstage presenter, Ashley Graham as Bretman Rock and Bb. Pilipinas
2010 Venus Raj are taking on the red carpet. Other names will join in the beauty wagon, Pia
Wurtzbachs BFF, Miss USA 2015 Olivia Jordan, will be there to witness and Miss Universe
1994 Sushmita Sen will sit in the panel of judges.
Later, Solar realized the difficulty in airing time and signal reception; hence, theyll go live at
8 a.m. to accommodate the East Coasts prime time airing and decided to forge alliance with
the Big 3 network, which is very similar to the arrangement on the Pacquiao-Mayweather
fight last May 2015.
Though the first batch of delegates from East Asia, the Pacific and the USA arrived in Manila
and made their first TV appearance on Eat Bulaga (December 10) on GMA, TV5 penned the
Solar partnership first (December 12). The Kamuning network signed second just three days
later. Finally, a week after, ABS-CBN, the current carrier of Binibining Pilipinas and the recent
Miss Universe pageants, completely forged the deal just before Christmas.
While the Big 3, ETC (for FTA), the rest of Solar Entertainment cable channels and Star World
(cable) will cover the coronation night.
TV5 will both air exclusively the swimsuit and long gown preliminary competitions this
weekend primetime. Their digital counterpart is currently providing the rights of behind-the-
scenes content.
Current developments
During the past two weeks, some TV programs within the Big 3 that are not teleseryes have
integrated the things associated with Miss Universe.
Last January 14, Eat Bulagas opening performance was conceived by Paolo Ballesteros, the
Best Actor for Die Beautiful in the recent Metro Manila Film Festival but during Bulagaan, he
was responsible for the fashion catwalk before the segment proper with the topic on the
winning countries of the pageant. The following day, January 15, ABS-CBNs Goin
Bulilit made a gag on the question-and-answer portion.
Not even Sunday night magazine programs are immune from covering the Miss U activities.
Particularly, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho despite lasting 2 hours gave the some significant
highlights of events.
On the very eve of the coronation (January 29), this will be a wrap for their segmented
special between the heated rivalry KMJS and Rated K but lets not fret if anyone related to
the pageant will be a special guest on Gandang Gabi Vice.
Not a player but not discouraged
As the Big 3 hype leading up to the main event escalates, one non-participating channel
wasnt discouraged for not being part of Solar deal or at least, they formerly were.
CNN Philippines complemented with the interview the outgoing Miss Universe on Profiles and
airing the two-part documentary of Winning the Crown, which will wrap up this Saturday.
Crowning conclusion
In the end, regardless of wholl be the successor of the crown, well witness the peaceful
transfer of duty; like Margarita Moran four decades ago, Wurtzbach will make the final walk
and the relinquishment of the crown and the sash at her native country.
With that being said, the benefits that we will reap during and after the chain of events
would boost not just our countrys showcase of splendorous tourism and long-standing
hospitality but also the morale to be confidently beautiful.

The PBA should be about the game and how the fans buy into

kinda doubt that first-time experiment. I account the following factors, aside
from the sports mindset:
1. NBA. During the Big Day, their season games are held in the afternoon
instead of the usual evening. That translates to early morning here, which is
inconvenient both for the broadcaster and the fans. In the past editions,
during that football game play, they broadcast such matches to alleviate the
drawback.
2. The time. Super Bowl usually lasts about four hours, inclusive of Lady
Gaga-led halftime show. Heck, Im giving a benefit of a doubt if they cut it for
our local analysis. Also, Im not surprised for their tape delay thanks to NBA
(priority).
3. Local announcers. I dont think TJ Manotoc or any local sportscaster will fit
to this very well. Better keep the US commentators (Joe Buck and Troy
Aikman) intact.

Actually, Sports Illustrated Asia, whom S+A will pick up the Super Bowl, will
not carry the FOX U.S. broadcast. Instead they will use the NFL Network
International feed.
Anyway, NFL games usually have graphics on the field that illustrate the
number of downs and yards to go for the offensive team. Thats important
and not distracting. Virtual ads are a different story though, which is a
troubling sight whenever people watch the PBA games.

Earlier I was able to watch Super Bowl LI thru live streaming on S+A website
although its better for me to watch thru FOX on live streaming. I dont know
if this was also shown on free TV or just cable only (via its HD channel) since
the majority of Filipinos dont have any interest on American football.
And speaking of SB, tong Atlanta Falcons naging Nalanta sa 4th quarter!
Hahaha nahawa na sila sa Golden State Warriors dahil na-choke sila at na-
blew 28-3 lead! BTW, congrats to New England Patriots, the 5x Super Bowl

Super Bowl was shown on S+A channel 23, however it is sourced from the
Sports Illustrated Asia channel which has the NFL rights in the country. Many
were mostly interested in the halftime show than the game itself although
the game was epic.
Still, it could take time before Filipinos will gain some interest in the game of
American football. Right now, the typical Filipino sports fan is more
interested in basketball, volleyball and soccer.

If I were the PBA, dapat yung sticker na lang ng Oppo ang idikit sa court.
Kagaya ngayon sa NBA at ABL, their sponsors are taped on the court.
However, dapat mas maliit ng konti ang Oppo logo to make it less
distracting.
To be honest, TV5 is seriously trying to gain attention with this stunt. Kaso
with the PBA not attracting as much sponsors as before, thats not going to

Also, if they want to get the attention of advertisers more, they should get
rid of the shorter LED panel at the scorers table in favor of the longer ones
we see in the UAAP and NCAA games. Kasi based on what we see now, the
presentation of the games is very inconsistent. Games in Metro Manila,
Antipolo and Binan have the benches positioned on top of the court facing
the main TV camera, pero in provincial games, nasa ibaba naman ito. And
deciding whether to call a full or 30 second timeout shouldnt take long,
No wonder that ABS-CBN will always will be a gold standard when it comes to
sports broadcast. Though TV5 have huge sport properties, they have a lot of
catching up.

For me, its better na alisin nalang yung virtual flooring nakakadistract lang
at saka may OPPO logo na sa score bug nila, redundant?
And another thing, yung mga ads na nilalagay nila sa TV screen during the
coverage eh natatakpan yung score bug within few seconds, nakakairita
parang nung mga laban ni Pacquiao over GMA. Sports5 should solve these
things.

Well, the ads that cover the score bug isnt Sports5s fault. Kahit yung ABS-
CBN Sports ginagawa rin ito during the UAAP. What were really concerned
about is the Oppo ads on the court. Kung ginawang sticker na lang ito at
nilagay isang bakanteng space sa court, it wouldve helped.

One week later, Doble Kara was placed opposite The Half-
Sisters, and following a slow start, the former gradually
displaced the latter as the Philippines top afternoon drama.
Along the way, rivals such as Wish I May, Hanggang Makita
Kang Muli, Sinungaling Mong Puso and Hahamakin ang

To sum it all up, Julia owed her success with Doble Kara to

Come this Friday, Doble Kara will have its curtain call. And
when its all said and done, this series should earn its well-

Wildflower had been heavily promoted for a while but it is very surprising
that The Better Half got the nod of replacing Doble Kara. This despite the fact
that TBH came out unannounced and on a short notice from the PR group.

MTWIs ratings could be affected since most areas will receive TV Patrol

learned from this issue with regards to their regional networks.
As for Wildflower, the series wouldve been better off as a Kapamilya Gold

Thoughts on Prioritizing
Executive Branch Over
Legislative Branch in Live
News Coverage
The executive branch (in this case President Rodrigo Duterte) will
always be the top priority of news networks when it comes to live
coverage. (Photo credit: The Philippine Star)
But what if there are two news events that take place at the
same time? Like for example, an ongoing Senate or House
hearing taking place alongside either a press briefing at
Malacaang or a speech of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Obviously, the priority of the news networks is the executive
branch, who always has the final say in political matters. That
said, it is mandatory to cut away from a live Senate or House
hearing just to move over to either the Palace or President
Duterte himself.
For those who want to get the news straight, there is YouTube
to take care of. Radio Television Malacaang (RTVM),
the Senate of the Philippines and the House of
Representatives have their own YouTube channels that focus
on their respective branches, and they live stream important
events that are also seen on news channels in the country.
But for those who dont have the patience to watch, just wait
for the evening newscasts to summarize them all. After all,
live news coverage is only for the most informed citizen.

I dont want to talk politics but speaking of YouTube and FB Live, those feeds
were used by trolls who are the terminally-ill supporters of the President who
are actually hypocrites in criticizing the media against him.
They use such feeds, devise a misleading title and create a thumbnail image
depicted his critics (Sen. Leila de Lima, Antonio Trillanes, etc.) as enemies
and publish it to YouTube. This act lead users searching the events to be in
trap and become online warriors.

Seems like ABS-CBN has not learned from its 5:00 p.m.
issues.
For all their dominance in the ratings game, the 5:00 p.m.
slot is and will always be ABS-CBNs weak point (this does not
include their early morning programs). Unless they do
something about it, the affected programs viewership will
remain compromised.
As for The Better Half and Wildflower, this will be an
opportunity to sustain ABS-CBNs winning ways. Its a
challenge that The Better Halfs Shaina Magdayao, Carlo
Aquino, JC de Vera and Denise Laurel, and Wildflowers Maja
Salvador and Joseph Marco should welcome despite the
networks scheduling issues.
I dont know how what broadcast TV Plus receives in the regional areas, they
can move regional TV Patrol in the morning. Most provinces will appreciate
that. I used to live in Quezon Province, most people watch the morning local

Because as it stands, their new timeslot of 5:00 p.m. is like a death sentence.
Theyre doing well in the previous timeslot, so why screw it up?
As long as ABS continues to fill the 5:00 p.m. slot without knowing the

Probably, but with the regional networks receiving their own versions of TV

show in that timeslot due to these circumstances. Its better for them to
sacrifice than to risk it, because it will only make things complicated if they

It really shows na madami talagang kulang ang Artist Center when it comes
to talent development. They dont even have stars-in-waiting at this point,
especially child stars that ABS continues to breed through Goin Bulilit and
other means. Wala talagang future ang GMA at this point when it comes to

GMA is trying to make a Pinoy version of Saturday Night Live, kaso ang layo
ng agwat. I dont understand what their true motives were at this point. They
simply keep on sinking.
After only five episodes, The Better Half finds itself with new
competition.
Along the way, Graces plans will be put to the test by people
who doubt and despise her. Whether its her envious younger
sister Charie (Lauren Young) or her ex-boyfriend Joel (Rodjun
Cruz), Graces hopes for attaining justice will not be easy.
The series will also star Lauren Young, Marc Abaya, Rodjun
Cruz, Chanda Romero, Therese Malvar, Lucho Ayala, Ashley
Rivera and Camille Torres. It will be directed by Ricky Davao.
For the rest of the first quarter and deep into the second,
The Better Half and Legally Blind will go up against each
other. But for the latter, beating the former will not be easy
given its potential track record after just five episodes.
That said, GMAs brass can only hope that Janine Gutierrez
will redeem herself after a so-so performance in her last
series. For Legally Blind, it is all about finding the right
formula for Janine to thrive on.

GMA Drama
540 28 11
Friday, February 24, will be the shows final episode, and for
those who stuck with Alyas Robin Hood throughout its run,
they will have plenty of stories to tell for this hooded hero.
However, it was not all smooth sailing for this GMA action-
drama series.
Just weeks before its premiere, many doubted Alyas Robin
Hood, particularly its similarities to another Robin Hood-
inspired character Arrow. Though creative head Suzette
Doctolero tried her best to differentiate the two, it was clear
from the beginning that the criticisms surrounding Alyas
Robin Hood would linger on during its run.
The series also failed to get past A Love to Last (during its
brief two-week run at the second slot) and My Dear Heart
despite getting decent ratings of 20% or better. Overall, even
with a total of 115 episodes and strong hype over the
controversy, Alyas Robin Hood still fell short of expectations.
The fact is, the superhero genre that GMA advocated in Alyas
Robin Hood no longer works in todays primetime scene.
Many prefer the more realistic and inspiring plots that ABS-
CBN produces in series such as Ang Probinsyano and My
Dear Heart rather than the fantasy leanings of Encantadia
and Alyas Robin Hood.
It also puts into question GMAs casting choices. Lets face it,
Dingdong Dantes is in a starring role for way too long and
shouldve given way to younger talent, but as it turns out,
GMA wanted him because there is no other capable actor
who can portray the lead role in Alyas Robin Hood.
And while Megan Young and Andrea Torres are worthy
supporting actors in this series due to their youth, giving
them a younger male lead wouldve helped Alyas Robin
Hood. In the end, GMA made a grave mistake by putting over
an actor with over a decade of service as a leading man, thus
continuing a path of overusing veterans.
It will be hard not to get Dingdong since he is the creative consultant behind
the series and also one of the producers of the show. Same with his new
show case solved. Thats the deal he has with GMA.

Basically, hes doing what Kris Aquino once did during her time with ABS-

ABS has a deeper talent pool compared to GMA, thanks to their secret

With the way you commented, it seems like Palace press briefings are either
important despite the seeming confusion (at least for ANC and PTV) or

As for IBC though, the government appears to have stopped supporting them

SIX YEARS ago today, while viewers are awaiting for GMA

AksyonTV turns 6 years old today but it quickly erodes its initial purpose.
SIX YEARS ago today, while viewers are awaiting for GMA News TVs launch, TV5 jumped in
unannounced over Channel 41; AksyonTV, the first news channel on free TV, was born.
They used to air round the clock as a slap of Channel 11s broken promises to live their
mantra, Oras-oras, alam ko but karma struck back in 2013 due to cost-cutting measures
by the management as well as NTCs rules and regulations for affiliated free-to-air TV
stations.
The era of being a homogeneous news channel began its decline when AKTV on IBC ended
on May 31, 2013 by carrying over their committed sportscasts as they also covered the
Sochi Winter Olympics a year after.
Recently, News5s public affairs programs airing on AksyonTV became merely reruns with no
motive to create new episodes. Since last year, EZ Shop and Shop Japan joined in the
diversification of programming portfolio to lessen their lameness.
During the seven-month-old Duterte administration where long Senate probes and/or
Presidential activities (Palace press conferences and speaking engagements) bear weight in
shaping the publics skeptical psyche, the channel didnt move a muscle and caught the
attention of the Turfs neighboring blog, From the Tube.
Ralph redressed their grievances and formulated proposals. However, when the priority
Congressional hearings resume, they were abruptly cut much to his ever-growing dismay
due to the simulcast of Raffy Tulfos Wanted sa Radyo on 92.3 News FM. Despite the radio
shows demanding popularity, he dubbed the Tulfo brother as the Kris Aquino of Radio.
Recently, Supernatural and Arrow reruns from TV5 eventually satisfied one of his
demands as their main channel was too irresistible in covering the ongoing PBAs Philippine
Cup playoffs. But then, the PHTV Group forum founded out that move to be a hodgepodge
rival to ABS-CBNs S+A and News TV.
That said, AksyonTVs initial purpose was defeated and was lopsided, leaving CNN
Philippines (if you are in the free-to-air territory) and ABS-CBN News Channel victorious.

ABSCBN played it smart when they decided to air My Dear Heart than Kim
Chiu serye on the second slot. MDH has a different flavor than a kiligserye
hence it wont be competing directly with the audience bracket of AlDub. ABS
might also learned well after JaDines TIMY not so well performance which
cater especially to millenials, it can also be said that AlDubs crowd are

GMA will need to have a deal with HOOQ to air their series, thats the
difference. The investment on iWanTV is paying off, also on ABSCBN Mobile
now that its fully acknowledge as part of Globes Tri Net service. Going back

as far as diversity goes, its a smart move since there are no ready shows yet

However, all of that happened during the peak of Kalyeserye. After that,
Tawag ng Tanghalan came out, and promptly dethroned AlDub from its
throne. AlDub can never be like KathNiel, LizQuen or JaDine if their only
shining moment came during the period of Sa Tamang Panahon. Their
success was not sustainable unlike those three, because ABS took care of
business properly.

The movie may have been a success, but by that point, people are getting
tired of Kalyeseryes repetitive storylines. Most of its audience are basically
bandwagoners, as in those who just joined in the fun of AlDubs success.
Again, what are you saying?? Bandwagoners?? Clearly you have no idea how
big is aldubs fanbase.
And big three LT youre saying, they are failing.. look at the reception on
TIMY, dolce, meh
Also, ABS teleserye also suffer from decreasing popularity due to repetitive
plotlines etc.. ang probinsyano is one example and even pangako sa yo. But
you cant take anything from the success of the artist jist because ot it.
ralphierce
MARCH 3, 2017 AT 3:06 AM
AlDubs fanbase used to be big, but once Kalyeserye became overly boring
and repetitive, that fanbase shrunk because most are just bandwagoners.
They decide to switch to Tawag ng Tanghalan once it became clear that
Kalyeserye is predictable.
And contrary to what you think, LizQuen, KathNiel and JaDine are not failing.
TIMY may have been a setback, but other than that, the three of them are
still in demand, all because ABS took care of them properly. Right now
theyre planning for a new project so leave it at that.
As far as repetitive plotlines go, both ABS and GMA are criticized for that. Yet
the former is winning despite those criticisms, and even if the ratings slightly
decline, they still beat the latter when it comes to ratings and social media
impact.

The fact is, sobrang irrelevant na ang YouTube channel ng TV5. Like I said, if
they want to keep posting just Alagang Kapatid videos, just rename the

No wonder. Even TV5s own YouTube channel is now USELESS, like Aksyon TV
before adding US TV series and Radyo5s continued ignorance of big news

First off, regarding Rated K, many may not like the show since you said na
Just look at it
now. Two hours for a magazine show? Thats too much. Kaya naging last
shows ng ABS.
As for the weaknesses of ABS, madalang lang ako mag-post nito dahil
malakas naman overall ang performance nila. However, they do have other
weaknesses, such as their overreliance on celebrities during game shows,
their overdependence on franchised shows imbes na gawang Pinoy, and their
perceived bias when it comes to some news coverage. Other than that,
theyre essentially formidable.

As for fantardism, we dont tolerate that. Lets face it, may mga ganoong tao
ginagawa namin; if they take this bashing too far, we dont hesitate to delete
and ban them.
ko, go ahead!
nila.

Pero sobra na yung dalawang oras. Magazine shows are supposed to last for
only an hour.
sila makagawa ng magandang reality or talent show.
Thats why KMJS is their saving grace on Sunday nights right now.
Kapag

I no longer see AGB Nielsen as a reliable source dahil sa mga obvious nitong
pagkukulang. Yung system nila, they emphasis more on urban areas,
particularly Metro Manila, whereas Kantar covers all urban and rural areas of
the country. While GMA can claim victories on AGB Nielsen as many times as
they want, it will never change the fact na marami talaga silang kahinaan.
Kaya yung mga figures sa AGB Nielsen ay madalas misleading, since it does
not affect GMAs current situation.

May S+A na since they also have the rights to NBA games. The best that
Solar can do is to allow competitor ABS-CBN Sports to purchase a majority

the ones who should step in and breathe some life to BTV.

At least sa S+A marketable yun brand just because they are affiliated to ABS-

MARCH 7, 2017 AT 2:07 PM
No wonder why Solar is losing money. If only Solar sold majority ownership of
BTV and NBA Premium to ABS-CBN, then it would be a win-win solution for
both ABS and Solar, especially that ABS has no cable sports channel since
Balls signed off on New Years Eve of 2015 after losing UFC rights to Hyper
and their expertise on popularizing UAAP, NCAA, V-League and ABL to Filipino
sports fans, and to benefit Solar, since their own flagship sports channel
(Solar Sports) struggled as of late with the loss of high-profile sporting
events.
ralphierce
MARCH 7, 2017 AT 2:26 PM
Actually ABS has a sports channel on cable with S+A HD, whose content is
drastically different from S+A SD which still airs some action shows and

ownership of NBA broadcast rights, provided that Solar sells a majority of its
ownership shares.

It may take some time to materialize, but lets face it, this is
the only choice for BTV given their recent issues. That
said, lets just hope that Solar will be willing to allow rival
ABS-CBN Sports to resuscitate BTV, and in doing so, alleviate
the pressure of running a high-profile cable channel in the
Philippines.
Now that wounds were mended between TV5 and its legion of

Its time GMAs daytime programming needs a revamp, just like this:
After UH:
*program similar to SiS & Bastat Everyday Happy & put it after UH (I dont
care if they can outsmart MB or not, whats important is the fun)
*Wolf Blood & Alien Surf Girls
*2 Koreanovelas (or any canned drama from US, UK or Australia; they should

I expected this backlash to come, but lets face it, times are really changing.
Millions of people now are connected with the internet and cable that free TV
is slowly becoming an obsolete idea (at least for classes A-C). And GMA?
Unfortunately, they havent really adapted to the changing tastes of society,
hence their losing streak on virtually every timeslot.
We can forgive them for re-airing Voltes V on its 40th anniversary, but if they
still insist on continuing to air Astig Authority, they must find new titles ASAP
rather than relying too much on reruns of their beloved anime. Theyre only
causing people to lose interest over time.

Its a long hard road to travel back to relevancy both in TV5,AksyonTV and
Radyo Singko.
Personally the thing thats good right now with them is to build off with the
disgruntled minority which are comprised of anime fans and ones who are
sick of the norms on Pinoy teleseryes. Developing a cult following would help
them gain more viewers rather than what they did in the past in which they
tried to compete with the two which caused extreme backlash both in
viewership and financial.
The only thing that I assume would hinder this plan of Chot Reyes would be
the one who hired him as top honcho,MVP and his ambitions.(Tignan mo
Before I forget they will have the NCAA March Madness games on the

I have to say that CNNPH is really rising to the challenge and has become a
seriously good second option in local news channel department.

Theyre pretty much the free TV equivalent of ANC at this point since neither
GMA News TV nor AksyonTV are willing to improve and legitimize their
product.

The only positive for News TV is that they somehow cover senate hearings,
the presidents daily presscon, etc. Aksyon TV on the other hand is more like
a non-watchable news channel with sports, too many tagalize tv shows &
movies, and home tv shopping. Bloomberg PH cannot even save News5 from
all of its problems.

Still, News TV pretty much features the same evil deeds as AksyonTV
whenever they dont have any live news coverage, plus they dont have a
complementary 24/7 broadcast on cable and satellite.

Newly-Redubbed Voltes V to
Air on GMA Astig Authority
This Week As Part of
40th Anniversary
The legend returns: Voltes V will air anew on GMA starting tomorrow,
featuring a new Filipino dub. (Screenshot courtesy of Toei, Nippon
Sunrise, Telesuccess Productions and GMA Network)
Voltes V is back.
Still, for those too young to remember the battle between the
Boazanians and the Earths special forces, Voltes V will be a
new experience for all of them. Win or lose, this new dub
should give them a fresh perspective on how good overcomes
evil, and how bloodlines were revealed.
Lets hope the posterity will learn how they experience the childhood of
parents but then, I shall not be surprised with the current editing scheme
that destroys the integrity of the anime for advertising money come
tomorrow.

GMAs Astig Authority is just too short and too cramped. Thats why there are
fears that Voltes V will be heavily edited for ad purposes, something that
might alienate the older folks who watched the show from episode 1. Dont
be surprised if this redub fails to impress.
As for Mulawin, lets just wait till the week before its premiere in order to give
them a proper preview. Right now they may not announce its premiere date
just yet so keep those fingers crossed.

Mr. Fu Leaves Energy FM, Plus
A New Jock for Barangay LS
Wanted Sweetheart
Mr. Fu (or Jeffrey Espiritu in real life) had been part of the
Energy FM team for parts of seven years (three with 91.5
Energy FM, four with 106.7 Energy FM). At the time of his
departure, he was the host of Energy FMs morning program
Ang Tagabulabog ng Buong Universe.
Mr. FU is a big loss for Energy. Despite having Papa J & Chico (soon) as part of
its roster, its time that its management should bring back some of its old
DJs, like Kulas, Pvt. Ryan & Sgt. Mark.

Indeed. A Big Three wouldve given Energy a chance, but its now gone after
this happened.

The 1990s marked the beginning of the end for Super Sentai
in the Philippines. Although Goggle V, Turboranger,
Fiveman and Jetman were introduced during this period,
they were eclipsed in popularity thanks in large part to the
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which premiered on ABS-
CBN around 1995.
From then on, the Power Rangers franchise was aired in both
English and Filipino dubs on the following channels: ABS-CBN
Channel 2, Studio 23, Yey!, Hero and Cartoon Network. And
while the Super Sentai soldiered on in its native Japan, Filipino
networks have no interest in importing such series due to the
changing tastes of viewers.

I think no one cares about this. Well, except the current Speaker of the House
who bashed Senator de Lima for having an affair and got detained who
also has a kabit (Please choke.).

To be honest yung The
Better Half ay kabit serye but with a twist na thriller din siya kasi madaming
psychotic characters.

Indeed. The Kabitserye fad is just too much at this point. Perhaps changes in
the viewing habits has fueled these moves na mostly hindi pang-bata, dahil
may cable at digital TV sila for their preferences.

I guess this show made Philippines History but in a negative way. And the
only time where local networks can have a diverse schedule is the weekends
and I guess GMA just broke that norm.

Actually 6x a week. That said, I wont be surprised if GMA pulls Ika-6 na Utos
out of Saturday afternoons, because of these physical and mental limitations
of watching TV. Yung so-called by popular demand na yan magiging karma
sa kanila.

They just lack any further programming options at this point, hence this.
Expect them to lose more of their audience as the episodes of Ika-6 na Utos
wear on.

Id say, this is not good for ones health. Six times a week for a teleserye is
too much to take. It could also put some stress on the production team as
well as its stars because the six-a-week showing could mean more taping
hours, which is not good.

Looks like GMA is running out of time and options, and their biggest option
their have is pagmamayabang. GMA might be great in producing fantaseryes
and almost lured Charo Santos-Concio out of ABS-CBN and their more
traditional teleseryes, but it did hurt GMAs long-term challenges, especially
financial challenges that would haunt them in the past few years and in
many years to come.

The damage has been done. Kaya yan, mga last resort in an attempt to
resuscitate their declining performance. Kaso, that decision is at the expense
of everyones health, so its still not going to help them.

Same pa rin ba ang salary ng mga actors dahil may extra airing or same pa
rin? If same pa rin lugi sila.
lang.

IDK, but salary has nothing to do with this decision. Kung i-overpay nila ito ng
todo ok lang. What we concern the most is the health of both the viewers
and the staff involved, dahil calculated risk ang ginagawa ng GMA with Ika-6
na Utos.
