Maintenance Manual on Flood

Technical Specification

A. Cleaning of Filter for Rain Water Harvesting Pit Total 06 Number of Filters are installed
1. Geotextile Bag Filter
Duration: Every month & periodically before rains.
Four steps of cleaning:

Note: Filter Bag/foam filter to be replaced on annual basis.


2. Foam Filter: Same steps as above would be repeated.

B. Cleaning of Bore Total 08 Numbers of Bore are installed at the site


Recommended Duration: After 10 years & expert should be hired.

Cleaning Methods: Compressor/ Boki Cleaning.

C. Cleaning of Storm/ Rain Water Pipe


Recommended Duration: Before rainy season & when water is blocked.
1. Bamboo Strips (Width - 2 inch & length as required) are passed through pipe.

D. Cleaning of Drain Channel (Total 05 Numbers of Drain Channels are installed) &
Catch Pit (Total 09 Numbers of Catch Pits )
Duration: Annually Before the Rainy Season.
1. Removing Grating/ Lid of Drain Channel/ Catch Pit.
2. Manual Cleaning by Suction Pipe.
3. Fixing of Grating/ Lid of Drain Channel/ Catch Pit.

E. Sluice Valve Maintenance (Total 02 Numbers of Sluice Valves are installed)


1. Every month Oiling/ Greasing of Mechanical Parts.
2. How to use Sluice Valve
Action Points: When Rain Arrives
A Current/ Normal Condition
1 Open Valve 2
2 Open Valve 1
B When Rain Starts: Actions to be taken in chronicle order
1 Close Valve -2
2 Close Valve -1
C When Rain Stopped: Actions to be taken in chronicle order
1 Open Valve 2
2 Open Valve 1
D Operation of Valve
1 Open the Manhole Cover
2 Take Key for opening of valve
3 Fix key in between hole of sluice valve wheel
4 Rotate the Key for 48 rounds:
(a) Opening - Clockwise Direction
(b) To Close - Anti Clockwise Direction
5 Remove the Key & place it in its correct position
6 Close the manhole cover

Average Life of Rain Water Harvesting Pit/ Tank (Total 04 Numbers Tanks) 50 Years.

The Rain Water Harvesting pits are designed for estimated capacity of Rainfall in the year of
2014.

Tips to ensure quality of ground water recharge


It is extremely important to maintain the rainwater
harvesting systems regularly for high quality performance.
Following aspects should be taken care of:

Just before the arrival of monsoon, the


rooftop/catchment area has to be cleaned properly.
The filters have to be cleaned properly before the monsoon.
The sluice valve has to be opened for the first 5 to 10 minutes of rain to dispose off the
polluted first flush.

***Disclaimer: Only rain water should be allowed to Flow into pit. Sewerage
Water should not be passed into Rain Water Harvesting Pit or Tank.
