1 Overview
1.1 Main uses and scope of application
Marine flange fire hydrants are used in the pipeline of fire fighting

system to realize the on-off of fire fighting pipeline.

1.2 Working conditions
Marine flanged fire hydrants shall work normally under the

following environmental conditions:

Relative humidity
Temperature [deg. C]
[%]

Summer Outside air +35 80%

Inside air +24 50%

Sea water +32

Winter Outside air -20

Inside air +20 50%

Sea water +0

Max. temperature for Technical/Machinery spaces: 45°C

Max. temperature of engine room: 45°C

Max. temperature of purifier room(Purifiers, etc): 55°C

2 product composition and working principle

2.1 product composition
Marine flanged fire hydrant consists of valve body, valve cover,

valve stem, handwheel, fire joint, etc. Its structure and working principle

are shown.

2.2 working principle

Marine flange fire hydrants are operated manually, and their working

principles are as follows:

(1) valve opening process: turn the handwheel counterclockwise →

the handwheel drives the valve stem to rise → the valve stem drives the

valve disc to rise → the fire valve opens → the medium circulates → the

valve element realizes the opening function.

(2) Valve closing process: turn the handwheel clockwise → the

handwheel drives the valve stem to move downwards → the valve stem

drives the valve disc to descend → the sealing surface of the valve body-

valve disc closes → the fire valve closes → the medium circulation is cut

off → the valve is closed.

2.3 Main technical parameters
The main technical parameters of marine flanged fire hydrants are

shown in Table 2.

5 structural style Right angle type

6 mode of operation hand operation

3 Installation and debugging

3.1 Installation method
Marine flanged fire hydrants should be installed vertically in the

system fire pipeline, and the inlet is connected with the pipeline flange by

bolts.
3.2 Debugging Methods and Steps
After installation, first check whether the connection between the

pipeline and the fire hydrant is reliable, and the pipeline medium is turned

on. Check the tightness of the connection between the pipeline and the

fire hydrant, and check the tightness of each part of the fire hydrant.

3.3 Precautions for Installation and Debugging
When installing marine flange fire hydrants, a certain space must be

left around for easy operation, use and maintenance. After the installation

and debugging of this equipment is completed and accepted by the

shipyard and the user's representative, the technical state of the whole

system is solidified. It is forbidden to dismantle the equipment or change

the system state without authorization to avoid man-made damage.

4 Use and operation

4.1 Inspection before use
Check whether the fire hydrant is securely connected and whether

the fire hydrant is in the closed position.

4.2 Operation method
Fire hydrants are operated manually, and the methods are as follows:

(1) Opening process: rotate the cover counterclockwise → pull out

the cover outward → insert the fire hose and tighten it clockwise →

rotate the handwheel counterclockwise to open the fire valve → circulate

the medium → realize the opening function.

(2) Closing process: turn the handwheel clockwise → close the fire

valve → cut off the medium circulation → close the valve → turn the fire

hose connector clockwise → pull out the fire hose → insert the cover →

turn the cover counterclockwise.

5 Maintenance and maintenance

5.1 Maintenance during operation
This system has been commissioned by the real ship in the shipyard,

and after the mooring test, it should be used and maintained by the full-

7 / 8
time personnel on board, and first read this operation and maintenance

manual in detail to master the correct operation and use methods. Non-

full-time users are not allowed to operate it without authorization.

Record this operation in the product record book in time for future

reference.
5.2 Daily maintenance work and plan
(1) Clean and dust the fire hydrants every week to keep them clean

and tidy;

(2) Check the whole pipeline system at least once every six months;

(3) Check whether there is any leakage at each joint of the fire

hydrant;

(4) The sealing ring must be replaced every 3 years without damage.

6 Precautions

(1) Fire hydrants are generally operated by at least two people

when they are used in the water outlet operation;

(2) The handwheel of fire hydrant is clockwise in the closing

direction and counterclockwise in the opening direction.

7 Common faults and troubleshooting methods
