Teaching PhilosophySince I began my journey to attain a dual degree in Special Education and
Adolescent Education, I have started to formulate my own teaching philosophy and ideals. My
teaching philosophy has been greatly influenced by Progressivism. Some of the dynamics I will
students will be able to construct and share ideas with no fear of harsh criticism, b) catering to all
students individual needs and accept that all students are capable of learning at their own pace, c)
the skills that will be life skills that will be useful in other areas of life, d) evaluate myself and
welcoming environment where students can answer and ask questions. There is no universal
way to teach but many methods that can be adapted to fit each student. Every student thinks and
learns differently so I will do my best to accommodate all these ways. This does not just mean
students with special needs or IEPs but all students. I am going to have one day per year when
students can bring in their family trees and present on them. This will help reinforce that
America is a melting pot as well as show diversity. Lessons will include a variety of different
activities. These activities will vary from simple lectures, to group activities, and individual
work. This will help all learners whether its visual, kinesthetic, or auditory.
There should be a balance between developing skills essential for life and also meeting
the requirements set by common core and standardize testing. In my concentration of social
studies, I do not just want to show students how to memorize history but understand it. There
needs to be creativity in each lesson to keep students engaged. There will be a fair amount of
lectures but also individual and group work. Studies have shown students learn best from each
other. I plan on giving a rubric for projects and assignments that will be loose. Students will be

able to think outside the box and develop social and critical thinking skills. I would always be
available during these times to monitor and guide students in the right direction.
Group work is a key area of my philosophy. Hands on activities are a fundamental factor
among adolescents. Each student needs to have the ability to converse with other students or
teachers. This is not just a necessity for students but for all people to lead a productive life.
students and the teacher is more of a facilitator. I will encourage students to do research outside
of class on topics that interest them. I am going to do this by giving the students different
options for projects. This gives the students an opportunity to work on something that interests
them. My goal in each lesson is to stimulate each students mind to think and make inferences on
their own. Learning does not end when school ends but when you stop thinking.
Education is constantly changing and being upgraded. Technology has begun to take over
the classroom as well as students lives. I believe my own education and teaching methods
should mirror this. As a teacher, I want to use this technology whether it is online textbooks or
online activities. This will be able to heighten the students understand. I will practice what I will
teach my students and that is we are all life learners. I will have discussions with my own peers
and colleagues to get new ideas for teaching and always be open to new interpretations. All
students, no matter their circumstances, are able to learn and I will adapt and try as many
methods as needed to reach them. I will periodically reevaluate my principles and look into new
ways to improve them. I want to inspire all students to not just have the desire to learn my
