Third Sunday of Easter
rd
I can hardly believe italready the 3 Sunday of Easter! Spring is in the air, flowers are blooming and our city is
once again welcoming thousands upon thousands of visitors each and every day. (If you are here at the Shrine
st
for the 1 time, please know you are more than welcome to be with us.)
I am very happy to say that I have been here at St. Anthony Shrine for just about 6 years and simply delighted to
be serving here in Downtown Crossing at the Church on Arch Street.
In talking with so many people after Masses, in the Lobby and everywhere around the Shrine, it seems that there
is much interest about who we are, where we come from and really what each of us does here at the Shrine and
outside of the Shrine. I would like to share with you some things about me, my background and interests.
I was born and reared in Washington DC. I have 3 brothers and 1 sister. My Dad was born in Ireland (Co-Kerry)
and my Mom was born in Chicago (both of her parents were born in Ireland)!
Ordained in January 1971, I have been a Franciscan priest for 46 years and have served in wonderful
assignments. Most of my work has been in the parishes of New Jersey. I was pastor in two different parishes for
a total of 19 years and as an assistant pastor in various parishes for 12 years.
I was also stationed at St. Bonaventure University in Western NY for 9 years, working in Campus Ministry and
then as Vice President for University Relations.
Photography is a hobby I love much and also I have been working in Stained Glass for well over 30 years.
Traveling worldwide is a definite love. Sports have always been of interest to me and I actually was the away
chaplain for the New Orleans Saints in the National Football League for 6 years.
Before receiving my Masters degree in Theology I took graduate courses in Radio and Television at the
university of Detroit. I have also worked 2 Summers at the Franciscan Communication Center in Los Angeles and
while there served as a technical advisor for an episode of Gunsmoke.
My life and ministry have been filled with great opportunities and I am so happy to be working here at the Shrine.
Besides Masses and Confessions, I work with anyone interested in applying for an Annulment. Running the 3
Raffles each year for the Shrine is time consuming but very interesting. Banking all the coins that are donated to
the Shrine is a once a month task...but always good. I also make sure the Mass intentions are in order so each
Mass that is celebrated is with the correct requested intention.
I plan to continue to serve here in Boston for many years. If you ever want to sit and chat, I am available and
would love to meet you.
Thank you for coming to the Shrine and please know that all of the friars here are here for you. Have a great
Summer.
