414 Student Teacher Informal Observation

Student Teacher: Megan Johnson

Date and Time: 9-29-16 12:40
Grade Level: 2 Read A-Loud
Look Fors: Pacing and wait time

OMIE was provided prior to the lesson.

The students entered the room coming from lunch and recess. Some time was
provided for the students to get a drink or use the bathroom if needed.
Megan checked in with a student who seemed to need to tell her something about
what happened at recess. Megan got down on the students level to acknowledge
her and her concerns on a personal level.
Megan rang the bell and the students came to attention. Megan told the students
that they were going to have a read aloud and they wouldnt need anything but
needed to relocate to the carpet.
Megan told the students how she appreciated their behavior. She thanked the
students.
Students read the title of the book together. She moved the students who needed
to sit closer and did so in a respectful manner. Megan reminded the students to
raise their hands.
Megan read orally and showed the pictures as well. Megan used great voice
inflection while reading. She allowed student input regarding what the voice of
the characters should sound like.
The students were all listening and involved in the story. Megan asked follow-up
open ended questions regarding the story. (Why do you think? Why did you
choose that? Etc.)
Megan appeared very comfortable in front of the students.
Megans pacing of the reading was very appropriate.
When one student kept blurting out, Megan reminded him to raise his hand and
that it was her turn to talk. You are being consistent with your expectations.
Megans wait time was also very appropriate. She made a great effort to call on
all the children and provided them positive feedback when they raised their hands
and answered.
Megan then read a part of the book without using voice inflection and asked the
students which way they enjoyed more? All the students responded that they
enjoy it much more with the inflection.
Megan was well prepared for this read a-loud/lesson. She seemed to really be
enjoying herself.
Voice projection was very appropriate.
When Megan had to redirect a student, she quietly said that students name and
went shhhh.
Megan had the students vote for the voice of the last color. Nice way to end the
book. The students laughed and really enjoyed the fun ending of the book. Megan
said, Bring it back to recover the class after all the laughter.
Megan explained the two choices that the students would have following the read
a-loud. I like that choices were given. Megan reminded the students that they
needed to work quietly and not chat.
Transitions went well.
Fun lesson! Well done!
