Van Gogh, Vincent

(1853-90) a Dutch painter who went to live in southern France and who helped to
develop the style of post-impressionism. His paintings typically use bright colours and
have thick lines of paint in circular patterns, and the most famous ones include
'Sunflowers' and 'Irises'. He is also famous for being mentally ill and for cutting off one
of his ears and later killing himself.
During his ten year long career he drew about 800 paintings and 700 sketches, of which
he managed to sell only one. Nowdays his paintings are valued at millions of pounds. He
left a strong influence to the development of modern art and he considered the greatest
Dutch painter after Rembrandt.

Song: Vincent ( Don Mclean )

For they could not love you
Starry starry night but still your love was true
paint your palette blue and grey
look out on a summer's day and when no hope was left in sight on
with eyes that know the that starry
darkness in my soul. starry night.
Shadows on the hills You took your life
sketch the trees and the daffodils as lovers often do;
catch the breeze and the winter chills But I could have told you Vincent
in colors on the snowy linen land. this world was never
meant for one
And now I understand what you tried to as beautiful as you.
say to me
how you suffered for your sanity Starry
how you tried to set them free. starry night
They would not listen portraits hung in empty halls
they did not know how frameless heads on nameless walls
perhaps they'll listen now. with eyes
that watch the world and can't forget.
Starry starry night Like the stranger that you've met
flaming flo'rs that brightly blaze the ragged men in ragged clothes
swirling clouds in violet haze reflect in the silver thorn of bloddy rose
Vincent's eyes of China blue. lie crushed and broken
Colors changing hue on the virgin snow.
morning fields of amber grain
weathered faces lined in pain And now I think I know what you tried
are soothed beneath the artist's to say to me
loving hand. how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
And now I understand what you tried to They would not listen
say to me they're not
how you suffered for your sanity list'ning still
how you tried to set them free. perhaps they never will
perhaps they'll listen now.
