Letter of Intent Beauty Pageant

Leslie Rojas wrote a letter to her teacher, Ms. Saravia, about her chosen topic for her junior research paper. She will research whether children's beauty pageants should be banned. Her thesis is that they should be banned because they can create bad habits in children like dressing provocatively or becoming perfectionists. She understands plagiarism is presenting others' ideas as her own without credit and agrees to submit her paper to Turnitin to check for plagiarism.

Dear Ms. Saravia:

I have chosen to do research about the controversial issue of whether beauty pageants for
children should be banned. This topic is very interesting to me because these pageants mold the
life these kids have in their adult lives. Some of the things I know about the issue are that the
parents are controlling how their childrens life would be, the kids have no say whether they
want to compete or not.

The thesis of my research paper will be that children beauty pageants should be banned. Some of
the points I may discuss are that kids competing in these pageants often create bad habits, such as
dressing provocative, become perfectionists, or be consumed with the worry of their self-image.
A counterargument would be that they could develop social skills and be involved in more school
activities.

My understanding of plagiarism and/or misrepresentation is to write down somebody elses ideas

or findings and not give them proper credit. I agree to submit my research paper to turnitin.com,
a web service that checks for plagiarism. I understand that forgery is falsifying a signature. I
also understand that if I were to plagiarize, forge or otherwise misrepresent any aspect of my
Junior research paper I will fail Junior English.

Sincerely,

Leslie Rojas
