Cantilever Calculation Tool

The document provides information on calculating the appropriate hardware for a cantilever gate, including charts for light, medium, and heavy-duty series. It emphasizes designing the gate with cross-bracing to prevent sagging and keeping calculations within the shown safety limits. The dimensions and weights entered will influence the results, with the goal of minimizing compression force. An Automatic Solutions consultant can assist if unsure of any aspects.

CANTILEVER CALCULATION CHART - CONTROL SHEET

GENERAL GATE CONSTRUCTION

Because the very nature of a cantilever gate is to "suspend" over the opening it stands to reason that you should design and construct your gate with as many cross -diagonal braces as possible to stiffen the
overall gate and prevent any sag. Gate design and strength becomes a trade off between aesthetics, strength and keeping the weight down. If your calculations produce a favourable result you may be able to
relax a little on your gate design but on the other hand if your calculations are showing that you are close to the limits you need to think seriously about looking at another series of cantilever hardware or reducing
weight but at the same time ensuring you have good cross support. TIP: The larger you can make "C" the quicker you improve your result. Talk to an Automatic Solutions consultant if you are unsure.
HOW TO USE THIS CALCULATOR
Fill in all yellow boxes with your own figures - The aim is to keep your compression force figure as low as possible. The notes on the right side will guide you on how to improve this figure.
Once you have entered your figures the notes to the right of the compression force will suggest the size you should use. Have a look at the page on this size and/or other sizes to see your results.
Choose a size of cantilever that shows good safe working limits and/or come back here to alter your dimensions and weights and try again.

Weight of gate total in kilograms 100 Reducing this figure will improve your result.
"A" - Opening in metres - 4.000 Reducing this figure improves your result
"D" - Distance between opening and centre of first trolley in metres - 0.200 Keep this figure as small as possible but allow adequately for the trolley.
"C" - Distance between centre of first trolley and centre of second trolley in metres - 1.200 Increase this figure to improve your result, but remember the larger this figure the larger
overall width required. Minimum size - 1.0 Metres.
"Ft" - Traction force in kgf (reaction to balance the cantilevered part) 183 The lower this figure the better or lower the Compression Force
"Fmax" - Compression force in kgf (the greatest force to which the gate is subjected) 283 LIGHT SERIES

Overall length required - Opening plus run off area. 9.600

CONCRETE BASE LENGTH WIDTH DEPTH
Size required for concrete base in mm - 1600 400 600
