My name is Novita Sari Situmorang, people usually call me Novita. I live with my parents in
Medan, which is located at Jl. Pasar V Gg. Kelinci Dsn. XIII Tembung. After graduated from SMA in
2013, I decided to continue my education into college. The reason why I wanted to continue my education
into college was hoping that in the future, I would get a better job than what SMK graduates could get.
Desire and determination that I had were underestimated by others because I just graduated from SMA
and there were some assumptions who said that only people who graduated from SMA who could get
into college.
I chose state universities in North Sumatra. The reasons were my parents forbade me
studying outside of my island because they didnt let their children to be far away from them, especially
at the college time, children still need parents advice to direct their life. Beside that, the limited funds
could also be the reason. Therefore, I chose two state universities. They were USU and UNIMED, but
actually I really hoped to pass in USU because USU is the best university in North Sumatra. In addition,
USU had also won many brilliant achievements at national or international levels. Yes, but I constant to
another opinions who say that all universities in Indonesia are good in their own ways. Collegers good or
bad achievements and behaviour depend to themselves, do they want to move forward or not.
Through SBMPTN, I chose the Departmentof Business Administration that has a lot capacity
eventhough it is newly established department and I also look forward to the bright future of this
department. Thank God, I passed the test and I could enter Business Administration Department. I was
very happy that I could be in this department without any fraud. It was because all prayers and supports
from my parents and also my efforts.
Flashback when I followed SBMPTN without following education tutorial due to the lack of
funds. Therefore I only learned at home from SBMPTN books that I bought from the bookstore. Those
books included the previous years SBMPTN questions. I had to fight for my parents who always support
me to achieve my dreams. Based on what I had learned from books and internet, I answered the exam
with confidence that I would defenitely pass. My friend asked me via handphone and said, Do you pass
the exam, Nov? and then I answered, I dont know, I havent seen yet. Then she asked my date of
birth and participant number curiously just to see my result. So, I gave it. But suddenly she told me that I
passed. Oh my God, I couldnt say anything , I only said thank You to God and then I told my mother. My
parents were very happy to hear that, although maybe they were confused about how to find a loan for my
first year in college.
I have introduced myself personally above and also about my story to enter USU. Now I
want to introduce my family. Im blessed to have a mother and father, R.Sitorus and JH. Situmorang. My
mother is a housewife who handles children and her husband and educates their children in order to have
the good morals and become succesful. My father as an enterpreneur whose income hasnt
been permanent yet. I was the third child of four. I have one elder brother, one eldest sister, and one
younger sister. My father is the backbone of our family. He always works tirelessly everyday to finance
our school. My brother had graduated from USU and now he is working, so that he is able to help our
family to fulfill our daily needs.
With the situation of our economy, I tried to find a scholarship to ease my parents burden
and also to support and motivate me. Finally, I found VDMS scholarship that provides material for
underprivileged students. In addition, VDMS also gives bonus to learn TOEFL and creates one activity ,
Leadership Conference. Therefore I chose this scholarship because VDMS can provide moral and
material support in the form.
In college, I join IMPRODIAS organization and KMK. IMPRODIAS is an internal
organization of Business Administration Department and I am part of RoKris (Christian Spiritual
Section), while KMK is one of Christian organization in Faculty of Social and Political Science
organization. As it is known that VDMS gives bonuses for students and I hope I can be one of the lucky
people who receive this scholarship. Therefore I can ease my parents burden. Beside that, I can get free
bonusTOEFL tutorial. I hope learning TOEFL can improve my English skills which are needed by the
time I graduate from Business Administration Department. As we know, one of this department
requirements is having TOEFL score minimum 400. I also want to join leadership activities which are
made by VDMS, so that I can learn the leadership soul in an organization and apply it to the organization
I chose in campus.
If I receive VDMS scholarship, I will give some what I have gotten such as material and
knowledge . I also want to hold social faith with my friends who in an organization. I will give knowledge
to people whom needed like pauper and child who less fortune.
I hope be able received for scholarship towards fluency to join this college and I can reach a
dream in my life to be success person. Because reach a dream need fight to make it happen. If just ask for
parents its impossible to occur. Such as statement carve like a stone on the water Therefore I apply for
this scholarship to be able make it happen my dream to be reality.
