Essay Writing
1. The board of Judges will provide the topics of the essay at the venue of the competition.
2. The essay shall be written in English not less than 600 words but not more than 800
words.
3. The contestants shall be given two (2) hours to develop composition.
4. The contestants shall use computers.
A. The host institution shall provide a venue equipped with computer units for the use of
the contestants.
B. Only the word processing software shall be used by the participants. Editing features
like spell check, punctuations, grammar check, dictionary and thesaurus shall be
disabled.
C. No printed materials, electronic gadgets, or storage devices shall be utilized.
D. Strictly no internet access shall be allowed.
E. Only the participants, a proctor, and an IT expert shall be allowed inside the contest
venue.
F. The format of the essay shall the following:
a. Font style- Arial; font size- 12; spacing 1.5; margin- 1 inch on all sides,
justified
G. Each contestants essay shall be printed in four copies to be distributed to the judges
and the contestant himself/ herself. Each copy should be stamped with the PASUC
seal.
H. Each contestant shall be assigned a number.
I. The result of the contest will be posted on the tally board immediately after the
judges have finished rating the contestants manuscripts.
J. The judges decision is final.

Story Telling
1. There will be eight (8) official contest pieces that will be provided for selection by
the PASUC Secretariat to the contestants a month before the competition.
2. All eight (8) story pieces must be read and be studied by the contestants within
preparation period.
3. A story piece among all the eight (8) stories will be drawn by the contestant five
min. after the ongoing speaker has started his/ her delivery. Drawing of the pieces
will be conducted inside the holding room.
4. The delivery must be done by a recounting of the original story piece. A minimum
of 7 min. and a maximum of 10 min. of delivery time is given to each contestant.
5. One (1) point shall be deducted from the contestants total score for every 30
seconds of undertime and overtime of his/ her delivery.
6. Movement is confined to either sitting or standing throughout the delivery.
7. Appropriate attire with moral and ethical standards is required.
8. No sound effects, background, or props are allowed to support the story.
9. Judges decision is final.

1. The category is a preparation of a short play with limited time and number of
characters.
2. The play will be limited to a maximum of characters and a minimum of 3
characters. Each player should portray a character.
3. The medium of language to be used will either be English or Filipino or a
combination of the two. Local dialects can be used but translation be provided in
the script.
4. Technicians, musicians, and all personnel needed for production will be counted
in he six- contestant limit.
5. The write is NOT required to be a part of the cast.
6. No recorded speaking or singing will be permitted in play production
7. Props, Lights, and Costumes- Hand props and a maximum of two movable props
will be allowed on stage. Backdrops are not allowed. Performers must wear
appropriate costumes. Lighting will use the available room light.
8. Time limit- Performance time is Ten (10) min. maximum. If competition play
exceeds the (10) minutes maximum time limit, the contestant will receive a 5
point deduction for any portion of thirty (30) second increments outside the
allotted time. ( For example, a piece timed at 10:01 would receive a half- point
deduction from the total score. A piece of 10:31 would receive a deduction of full
point from the total score).
9. Script- Originally written scripts will be allowed. Five copies of the script must be
given to the organizers. The play must include at least two scenes. The play
should depict or illustrate the theme of family unity, values and youth issues.
Scripts are to be memorized.

Instrumental Solo
1. The following will be the sequence of solo instruments for annual competition
(2015- classic guitar nylon string); 2016- violin; 2017- piano; 2018- banduria
respectively).
2. The music piece shall be one straight piece and any of the following:

3. The contestant shall play the instrument without any back-up, accompaniment
or background music. No electronic device/ pitch up.
4. The title of the piece must be given to the board of Judges before the
performance. The master of ceremonies shall announce the title of the piece.
5. Performance shall be 3-5 min. beyond this limit, a total of five (5) points will
be deducted from the total score of each judge.

Vocal Duet
1. The piece is one straight published Original Pilipino Music (OPM) song, either
English or Filipino. Published regional songs with translation are allowed. Pieces
arranged into a duet are also allowed. Revival or adaptations from foreign
compositions is disallowed.
2. Contestants may be: (a) both males, (b) both females or (c) a male and a female.
3. There should be two (2) voice parts.
4. Recorded accompaniment (minus one) in MP3 format should be submitted to the
host institution during rehearsal for compilation. Singing shall be accompanied by
a minus one tape or CD. Multiplex shall not be allowed. Cds must be tried out
prior to the contestant and a back up copy should be available.
5. Delivery not more than 7 min.
6. Judges decision is final.

Choral Singing
1. Each choral group will sing One (1) official contest piece and one warm- up piece
that has no bearing.
2. The voice composition shall be SOPRANO. ALTO. TENOR. And BASS (SATB).
3. Choreography is not allowed.
4. There shall be sixteen (16) to twenty (20) singers per group, who are all bona fide
students of the participating region.
5. Accompaniment for the choice piece is limited to piano or guitar. Use of
percussion instruments if indicated in the piece is allowed.

Pop Solo

Rearrangement or revival of an OPM song is allowed. Revival or adaptations

2. Singing shall be accompanied by minus one tape or CD. Multiplex shall not be
allowed. Recorded accompaniment (minus one) in MP3 format should be
submitted to the host institution during rehearsal for compilation. CDs must be
tried to the contestant and a back up copy should be available.

Contemporary Dance
1. The contest must be at least four (4) min. but not more than (5) min.
2. A maximum of ten (10) and a minimum of six (6) dancers are allowed to
participate.
3. The dance piece should be an original choreography in neo- classical/
contemporary form.
4. Soft shoes or point shoes may be worn (optional)
5. Sets are not allowed (e.g. risers, back drop, tables, etc.) Hand props may be used
(e.g. stick, fan, ring, umbrella, etc.). bamboo, wood, steel or plastic pole may be
used but must not be more than 3 meters long.
The following are strictly not allowed in the performance:
a. The use of real fighting armor (e.g. sword, knife, guns, arrow, spears, etc.)
b. The use of any form of liquid (e.g. blood, oil, water, etc.)
c. The use of fire, candles and any pyrotechnic materials.
d. The use of confetti either drop or bomb.
e. Breaking of glass, pots, etc.
f. Audio visual presentation or screen projection.
6. Costume must be appropriate to the concept of the dance. Nudity is strictly
prohibited.
7. Obscene choreography/ indecent movements and killing of animals are strictly
prohibited.
8. Violation of any these contest guidelines will result to disqualification of the
participating group.

1. Groups are permitted to mix and bring music of their choice on a standard CD.
2. The routine must be performed, in its entirety to the music selected, prepared and
submitted by the group.
3. The contest piece must ne three (3) min. but not more than five (5) min.
4. A maximum of ten (10) and a minimum of six (6) dancers are allowed to
participate
5. Groups should include their performance a broad selection Hip Hop dance styles
without excessive use of the same move or pattern. A varied range of styles
should be shown in the choreography of arm, leg and body movement.
6. Attire may include accessories such hats, caps, gloves, scarves, jewelries, etc.
removing pieces of clothing during the performance is allowed provided it is not
offensive or out of character. Appropriate clothing should be observed in the
competition.
7. Any move where the competitors weight is solely on the neck/ head i.e. head
pins, head stands etc. are not allowed.
8. Performers should not wear any identifying marks of their region.
