ABSTRACT

With the invention of computers, has increased human dependency over the Internet.
Individuals or groups can now use Cyberspace to threaten International governments, or
terrorize the citizens of a country. The crime of "cracking" can escalate into terrorism
when an individual "cracks" into a government or military-maintained website. Cyber-
terrorism could be hacking into a hospital computer system and changing someone's
medicine prescription to a lethal dosage as an act of revenge. Cybercrime is emerging as
a serious threat and is perhaps the most complicated problem in the virtual world.

Cyber crime is a twentieth century foetus of technological development, now which

grown up like as epidemic and has become uncontrollable in the twenty-first century.

Various types of cyber crime include Data crime- data interception in which an attacker
monitors data streams to or from a target in order to gather information. This attack may
be undertaken to gather information to support a later attack or the data collected may be
the end goal of the attack. This attack usually involves sniffing network traffic, but may
include observing other types of data streams, such as radio. In a data modification
attack, an unauthorized party on the network intercepts data in transit and changes parts
of that data before retransmitting it. Data Theft is the term used to describe when
information is illegally copied or taken from a business or other individual. Commonly,
this information is user information such as passwords, social security numbers, credit
card information etc.

INTRODUCTION

Cybercrime is defined as crimes committed on the internet using the computer as either a
tool or a targeted victim. Worldwide Governments, police departments and intelligence
units have started to react, realizing the potential of the damage it can cause to society.
Today cybercrime has taken several forms. It can be committed as a crime against
individual, a crime against individual property and as a crime against society at large.

Cybercrime is the outcome of high innovations and development in the field of

Information Technology and therefore to prevent and nullify the effects of this crime,
technology has to play a major role.

Technically Cyber Crime can be said to those species, of which, genus is the
conventional crime, and where either the computer is an object or subject of the conduct
constituting crime

Most of the cybercrimes are committed through internet except few in which the
malicious data or the protected data is shared, distributed or accessed through non
networking means.
